Palin attorney, and pet poodle, Thomas Van Flein escapes to Arizona. Hmm what does THAT mean for Snowdrift Snooki?

From Politico:

One of Sarah Palin’s most-trusted advisers is going to work for a newly-elected Arizona congressman.

Tom Van Flein, an Anchorage lawyer who has become a political adviser and fixer of sorts for Palin and her family, will become legislative director and deputy chief of staff for incoming Republican Rep. Paul Gosar, it was announced Monday.

Van Flein is one of the four aides Palin most relies on, helping to devise political strategy and do research. He graduated from the University of Arizona College of Law, and formerly lived and worked in Arizona, Gosar pointed out in a statement announcing the hiring and praising Van Flein, who worked on Gosar's campaign, as "one of my trusted advisers."

"I look forward to working with him in Washington and ensuring that we listen to the American people and work to uphold the principles that make this country great," Gosar said.

As many of you are aware Van Flein has been one of Palin's most loyal and versatile staff members.  He aggressively represented Palin during the Troopergate investigation, he aggressively went after me on her behalf after I posted the Splitsville story, he represented her during the so-called "e-mail hacker" trial, represented Bristol in her child custody case with Levi, and even represented Palin's butt-boy Joe Miller in his fight to dismiss write in votes for Lisa Murkowski.

Yes Tommy-boy has been one of the Grizzled Mama's most reliable supporters and defenders, so what does it mean that he is suddenly picking up stakes and winging it to sunny Arizona?

Well he could simply be jumping off of the Palin Titanic before it finally hits that iceberg that everybody knows is in its path.  Or he might know that the Palin gravy train is about to run out of gravy and that there are more lucrative offers elsewhere.

Van Flein worked on Gosar’s campaign, donating $2,760 worth of legal services, according to Federal Election Commission reports. They show that Palin’s political action committee, Sarah PAC, has paid Van Flein’s firm $155,000 in the past year for legal fees.

Or, if some of the rumors I keep hearing are correct, he might be heading off to help set up Palin's operation in Arizona, before the family all moves down there en masse.

I have to say that at this point I am not exactly sure which one of these scenarios, or which combination of them, is the actual reason.

However it seems that Palin is not completely cutting ties with Van Flein, like she did with some other staff members who rode off into the sunset.

It is unclear whether Team Palin intends to add staff to replace Van Flein during his absence.
In a statement, Palin said Gosar "is getting a wise, experienced and principled hand that will help him hit the ground running."

That sounds pretty magnanimous for the Grizzled One now doesn't it?

And isn't that old fart that Palin allowed to share her 2008 Presidential ticket still Senator in Arizona as well?

Yes, I think this bears watching. I have the feeling that Van Flien's association with Sister Sarah is far from over.

Absolutely agree with you that the association isn't over. He's made way too much money off of her to leave her for some practically unknown congressman. And he knows way too much for her to throw him anywhere.

IMO, the AZ congress critter is just a beard. A little cover for covert Palin operations.

Yep Gyphen, this is only a new chapter in Sarah's next self-acclaimed best seller. Team Palin's eyes remain bigger than their stomachs.

I wonder if Joe Miller will beg Van Flein or Sarah to dispatch him to Washington or Arizona also too?

The guys gonna need work, and for all those hundreds of emails he wiped out to protect Sarah, well, she still owes him for all the lukewarm support she gave him in that Senate run.

Mark Burnett and the Learning Channel folks are going to feel like first class dupes if Palin fleeces them for millions to make SPAK and then leaves for Arizona. Then again, maybe they already do.

Maybe it's in preparation for "Sarah Palin's Arizona." And in a year or so they'll all move again and start filming "Sarah Palin's Mississippi." Shit she can go through 50 states and a couple of territories before she runs out of material.

  6. Maybe she plans to run for McCain's Senate seat when he retires, which has to be soon based on his current performance. She knows she can't win a state-wide election in Alaska anymore.

"I love Alaska like I love my own family." And just as with her family, she plans to stay as far away as possible.

I assume Palin chose Arizona because of McCain, but what is her relationship with McCain these days? He knows gambling on her didn't work out so well for him during the election and he has got to know about at least some of her skeletons. Does he continue to support her because he is too stubborn to admit it was a mistake to choose her? Clearly there are still very powerful players working behind the scenes here, but it's not clear where Palin fits into it all. Are they getting ready to cut her loose, but getting people like Van Flein, who have been loyal foot soldiers, sorted first?
Van Flein said something about very, very powerful attorneys intervening in his work at some point and I believed him. It's not clear to me that his loyalty is to Palin or to the powers that be.

Sarah and Tom are still joined at the hip.

We'd all know if he was fleeing the Duchess of Dumb by the blood gushing everywhere and our inability to see his corpse from the underside of the bus. . . .

Poor Arizona. McCain, Brewer, Arpaio and now Sarah Palin and her mouthpiece. The desert is looking pretty ugly these days.

What are the residency requirements for Senator or congress in AZ? McCain could be retiring soon. Can a "snow bird" part-time resident be considered a "resident"? She's lost her support in AK. I wouldn't be surprised.

Palin moves to AZ and hacks McCain off at the knees & steps in to replace McCain? Remember - Palin & Brewer have become BFF's attending a baseball game, etc.

Heads Up to Peeps in AZ - VanFlea barks a lot -- threatens to sue at every turn but truthfully, he's a toothless wimp as he's not carried through on any of them in AK. Remember all the threats against the ethics filers, Shannyn's 4th of July threat, etc. He's ego driven believing himself a big man but truly is ballless. One day something will surface that he looses his license to practice.

  19. This past weekend, Gov. Palin appeared at the Costco in South Anchorage, Alaska, to sign copies of her bestseller America by Heart: Ideals My Ghostwriters Cherish. Costco’s management had wristbands to hand out in order to ensure that at least the first 500 in line would be able to be able to see Sarah in person. That only 67 people actually showed up suggests that most of the local populace stayed home because they imagined they’d never even find a place to park, let alone get anywhere near the presumptive candidate. Of those 67, two — a blogger who’s been writing critically about Sarah, and a woman wearing a Worst Governor Ever T-shirt — were escorted out of the store. Naturally, the lamestream media and the liberals and so-called progressives (hereinafter, the LSCPs) were beside themselves.

Here we go again. You will find no more avid believers in the First Amendment, the one having to do with freedom of expression, than common sense conservatives; no way! But just as you don’t get to stand up in the middle of a crowded cinema bellowing, “Fire!” you don’t get to say or write things that are grossly offensive to average, hard-working, God-fearing Americans, which is exactly what the evicted blogger, who ought to see how he likes it in Russia or North Korea, is in the business of doing. I mean, technically, you can, but if you do, it shouldn’t surprise you that two big security guards frog-march you out to the parking lot and dribble your head off the pavement until blood comes out of your ears, or even anus, not to get too graphic, but nothing makes me more furious than the abuse of freedom of speech.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Sarah mentioned by Gosar in the same sentence.

"He (Gosar) was the first candidate to arrive at the rally. During an interview he defended his endorsements from two controversial Republican politicians - former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio - saying they speak "their minds.""

Arizona makes sense on many levels: first, it has a larger economy than countries such as New Zealand or Ireland even though its current deficit is gargantuan.

Plus, they're white! OMG - how appealing to scared, rich, aging, or diseased old white folks. Why, the Palins will just seem like the kids they never get to see.

AZ is fertile ground of grifters like the Palins who prey on the fearful and the uninformed. Hate and fear seem to be the dominant emotions in AZ at the moment. Makes for easy pickings. Just saying.

Why let the fact of size of the kid get in the way as 'facts' are not something the Palins live by.

I was curious when reading the name of the other party - with the initials 'GP' as it rang a bell to a writing of Dec 17th by AlaskaWTF about Willow - the writing giving hint to look for initials 'GP'.

I think Sarah thinks she has several options - and true to her pattern, she will not hesitate to double-cross anyone who helped her in the past.

Let's see - there's the McCain Senate seat, the Kyle Senate Senate seat, the Brewer Governor's seat, and huge areas of what will appear to Tundra Barbie as desolation in which to toss the bodies after she throws them under her bus.

Well, AZ, karma is about to hit - elect creeps like McCain, Kyle and Brewer and you are bound to attract the dregs of our culture like Sarah. She can smell money and opportunity better than a bloodhound can smell a blood trail from a stabbing and dragged body (really, the images that woman can engender!).

  46. Calling Van Flein a 'political adviser' is cover for his being a 'fixer of sorts for Palin and her family'. Sarah has no boundaries and sees her personal life as impacting her political image, justifying payments to VF from SarahPAC.

Does Van Flein even have legislative experience? He seems like a poor choice to be a 'legislative director and deputy chief of staff'. Makes me wonder if Gosar has personal legal difficulties that need fixin'. Or ...VF is padding his resume for an appointment as AG or chief of the White House 'Dept. of Law'(hehe). Naw. That would be delusional.

Gosar: "I look forward to working with him in Washington..."

Why do we think he's moving to AZ?

What I really want to know about Van Flein is what personal legal work he did for Sarah BEFORE Troopergate.

"Van Flein, who also previously represented the Palin family in another matter, said there was no conflict of interest in the dual representation arrangement. Van Flein is permitted to bill the state up to $95,000 for work in the current case [Personnel Board investigation of Troopergate]."

    http://www.juneauempire.com/stories/090308/sta_327349427.shtml
