Group plans to purchase satellite to provide free internet to developing countries around the world.

From Raw Story:

A Human Right plans to finance their satellite by allowing telecommunication companies to purchase bandwidth, while providing basic service for free to everyone. "Our goal is to not only get everyone online, but also facilitate the growth of an industry," their website said.

The group has already managed to raise $44,781.

"The idea for global connectivity was born in Berlin, Germany in an innovation 'Do-Tank' called Palomar 5," according to the group. "Thirty people under the age of thirty came together to innovate on what the future might look like, and how to address some of the worlds problems."

I have said it before, but it bears repeating, this new Generation We is going to absolutely rock this planet.

And I for one am going to do everything I can to help them achieve that goal.

Are you familiar with The Fourth Turning by William Strauss and Neil Howe? It describes--in sociological terms--the various attitudes based on generational models. Excellent work, not woo-woo.

The Wiki has a decent explanation:

I like that moniker "Generation We."

It is the antithesis of everything Sarah Palin, the Tea Party and the GOP stand for and makes me proud of the youngest generation to come of age.

We really are in this thing called life together and the sooner we realize by helping each other, we help ourselves, the better.

Generation We - what a hopeful concept, embracing progressive ideals and trying to implement them! (Thanks for the link to the site explaining this, Gryphen.)

Gryphen- you are doing a great job of rocking this planet and I am fully behind you.

I have some burning questions about Shailey Tripp that I hope you will answer soon!

First- Why did NE drop her and are they still pursuing the story at all?

Secondly- When will all the information come to light?

Thirdly- when is this all going to be a credible and strong enough case that the MSM will take it on and are there already some working on it?

I think the timing and critical mass of the proof is so key to making this something that has real impact and I am getting frustrated by the little bits, slowly coming out.

I worry that the impact is getting blunted.

Please answer and give your thoughts (and, hopefully, assurances!).

Gryphen, the site to which you linked for Generation We has a terrific offer that I want to be sure everyone sees so that hopefully many will download and read.

The Generation We site offers a free download of a 257-page book that delineates the beliefs behind the Generation We (the Millennials) movement.

I've just downloaded it and scanned the first segments. I am impressed and encouraged by what I've read thus far.

The world is not going to hell in a handbasket if this new generation is any indication; they are going to commit to continuing to fight the fires of ignorance and hatred and build upon the foundations of positive change earlier generations have tried to establish.

If you need a lift, please look into this. I think you will feel better. It is such a happy change to read about people who really believe change is not only possible but are working to make it happen.

I can't think of a better way to wish Sarah Palin an unHappy Birthday by renewing your belief in progressive ideals.

President Obama Remarks on National Wireless Initiative

The President has set a goal of providing 98% of Americans with access to so-called 4G wireless networks capable of handling large amounts of data like streaming video. This event was held at Northern Michigan University in the city of Marquette.

I'm not really dissing their efforts, but my first thought was a cartoon I saw AGES ago. It showed a cartoon Indira Ghandi leaping for joy "Hooray! We've got the Bomb!" with millions of starving citizens behind her.

It feels like putting the cart before the horse.

Global internet connection is just a matter of when. I applaud their efforts to make a difference.

Until some corporation comes along and offers $$$ for the satellite and all transmit rights.
    /sarcasm off. ;-)

I sure hope it's true about this generation. I've been feeling a little disheartened lately. All the patriotism rhetoric is a bit unChristian in my opinion.
