Teabaggers dramatically losing support in Utah. Yes, I said Utah!

Courtesy of Mother Jones:

Life is good if you're a tea party Republican from Utah. With all that momentum, there's little reason to doubt the the movement's long-term viability in the Beehive State. Right?

Well, no. A recent poll conducted by Brigham Young University's Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy shows that overall support for the tea party in Utah has dropped from 53 percent during last year's elections to 46 percent in April.

Among independent voters, support for the tea party has plummeted by nearly fifty percent, potentially helping moderate Democrats. But for "strong Republicans," support for the tea party climbed from 76 to 82 percent. The poll issues a clear warning for candidates like Chaffetz, Hatch—and, down the road, even Lee—who hope a hard push to the right will secure their political futures.

The takeaway: as the tea party continues to consolidate its support among Republicans, independents (i.e., the voters who end up deciding elections) are drifting away in increasing numbers. Whether this trend continues taking hold in Utah—the heart of the conservative heartland—could be a bellwether for its national viability.

News Corp suffering potentially fatal fallout from their phone hacking scandal, turnout for Sarah Palin's movie and Bristol's book sales almost non-existent, and now support for the Teabaggers falling like the Palin family IQ.

Didn't I tell you that this was going to be a great summer? Perhaps next time you won't doubt your Uncle Gryphen so much.

    Hi Bristol:
Don´t you find it interesting that Sadie´s BFF here had to mention you in a post about Teabaggers? Now I know why you find the comments here amusing. The readers here refuse to acknowledge the fact that writing a book and going on a book tour is an achievement, especially for a 20-year-old. Some people! And they act as if cosmetic surgery is against the law or something. Do you smell jealousy? I do. The last time I checked America was still a free country. Speaking of cosmetic surgery: As far as I (and most Americans) are concerned, you can undergo cosmetic surgery until Jesus walks the Earth again, but you will never be as cute as Meghan McCain.

I wish I could share your enthusiasm, Gryphen. But in DC, they have lost any connection to the real world as we know it. Our democratic president seems intent on selling, no, giving away the farm.

Obama is turning out to only be one of the better republican presidents.

Personally, I am not feeling the audacity of hope.

It was bound to happen. The entire edifice of teabaggery is supported on but two pillars: obdurate ignorance, and panicked bigotry. It never was a genuine grassroots movement, but was merely a vaporous cloud of inchoate white nationalist rage of those fearful of political and demographic change which was ripe for the exploitation of Murdoch and the Kochs. These gullible sheep who would come to be known as teabaggers were then herded and whipped into panicked frenzy by FauxNews and FreedomWorks (a.k.a., Dick Armey and the Koch brothers).

They were fed a steady diet of hyperventilated cries of "THE SKY IS FALLING!" on an hourly basis. Such bullshit claims as the apocryphal FEMA/ACORN concentration camps, the genocide of the elderly, the imposition of Sharia law, headless torsos in the desert, etc., etc., etc. ad infinitum can only be kept up for so long. After more than two years of 24/7 bombardment of this patently absurd Chicken Little nonsense WITHOUT ANY CATASTROPHE OCCURRING, it becomes increasingly difficult to sustain the elevated level of panic - and the limited attention span of the FauxNews viewers - indefinitely.

To anyone with even a partially functioning prefrontal cortex it is becoming increasingly obvious that the teabaggers don't know what the hell they are talking about on ANY subject. Remember: the pillar of obdurate ignorance. The teabaggers may indeed believe the pablum they are spoon fed by FauxNews and the Armey of Dick, but everyone else is getting sick and tired of their idiotic febrile whining.

Additionally, the teabaggers who've been elected - or not - have been among the most incompetent, feeble, and disingenuous politicians in history. So much for principled leadership responding to the will of "WE THE PEOPLE!"

The teabaggers also cannot escape the pernicious stench of racism which clings to them like stink on shit. Try as they might, they cannot rid themselves of their incipient racial animus that is so central to their very core being. Why? Because it is the second pillar of teabaggery. If it weren't for that sense of inchoate white nationalist rage that was brought to the surface by the election of President Obama, the teabaggers would never have emerged from their subterranean lair.

This moribund tribe of cave dwelling cousin humpers with more toes than teeth are looking even more pasty, wan, and sickly than ever. They cannot sustain themselves on the toxic diet of hyperbole, misinformation, and venomous lies that they receiving at Murdoch's teats. There they will suckle until they wither and die in ignorance and fear.

Let them suffer the ignoble fate that they so richly deserve.

When Palin was gov errr I mean CEO of Alaska, Alaska was the least ranked state for business. Hahahahaha. That is some selling point, she was the worst CEO in the nation :)

Tea Baggers...yes, we see buyer's remorse setting in all over the country.

The backlash cometh to the rest of the nation just like it did in Alaska. Alaska once embraced the Tea Party but ended up saying NO to Tea Baggers - US Senator Lisa Murkowski made history by winning reelection via a write-in vote over Republican candidate Joe Miller (aka crazed-hypocritical-egomanical-vote disenfranchiser-Tea Bagger Poster Boy).

What would make this a truly great summer would be for one of these grifters, fear-mongers, and frauds to actually end up getting indicted for something meaningful. I'd ROLFLMAO to see Grifter Granny being towed away in in cuffs. Or Limbaugh, Beck, etc. and watch them bawling the whole way...

And to Anonymous troll @8:41 - a book at 20 would indeed be an accomplishment - if in fact she had actually written something meaningful and had it published without help from her Mother's connections and notoriety. It is an insult to real writers who work very hard to write something that actually has value and to attract an editor and have it published.

I mean, any one of us could have guessed Palin's movie would be a joke based on everything we knew about it. And Biscuit's book? Christ, my dog could have predicted that. Right before he pissed on it. haha. (well at least I tried to put a little humor in my bitchy comment, ok!)

The way the President has been compromising his principles (at least I used to think he had principles, now I'm not so sure), we might as well have a TeaBagger in the White House. President Obama has embraced TeaBagger economics to the point that he's no talking about the same Confidence Fairy as Mitchy-Mitch McConnel is.

So how do we find out Fox advertisers? This seems to be the way to influence anything being done about him. If they jumped ship in the UK trying to distance themselves from the scandal taint, it seems to me advertisers here in the US should be concerned too.

We can help them accept this if we contact them, just like Beck, advertising dollars rule. The far right are way more into influencing this way, they really know how to complain!

It just seems to me now is the time! It was the public in the UK who started this ball rolling, lets get with it!

  22. re "Obama giving away the farm" -

Jane Hamsher states, "According to both the Washington Post and the New York Times, Obama is proposing cuts to Social Security in exchange for GOP support for tax hikes."

    She goes on to say:

"Now if you think that this is something the President is doing because it’s the only way to get Republican cooperation you can stop reading here, because we’re going to disagree. From the moment he took the White House, the President has wanted to cut Social Security benefits. David Brooks reported that three administration officials called him to say Obama 'is extremely committed to entitlement reform and is plotting politically feasible ways to reduce Social Security as well as health spending' in March of 2009. You can only live in denial for so long and still lay claim to being tethered to reality."

Come on, get real. Bristol didn't write that book. As far as the book tour goes, she had to have Mommy with her and all she really has to do is smile and sign. No one gets to stand still long enough to say anything of substance to her.

Jealous?? Ha - more like frustration that someone with so little talent or substance can get so much money and opportunity for what - for getting knocked up and whining about it.

I do not agree with some here that President Obama has sold out or stopped trying.

Considering what he has been up against, it is amazing what he has achieved thus far.

I believe Gryphen had a post up recently with a link about the staggering achievements this man has accomplished thus far.

But you won't hear much if anything about those on broadcast or cable news shows - not even MSNBC or Current.

Right now, I think the progressives in the media are having a feeding frenzy because he isn't perfect and hasn't accomplished everything on our Wish List but they need to focus on the hypocrites in the GOP/TP and the Blue Dog Dems. One man cannot accomplish our goals with those odds against him.

People who say he's useless or selling out are not paying attention. Medicare can stand to have some intelligent pruning as long as the services are maintained and providers are not discouraged. There is a lot of fat still going to drug manufacturers, insurers, and the like.

Voting in more progressives would solve most Medicare and healthcare issues because we might get a single payer system through. A president, any president, cannot do that without like-minded people in Congress.

The media is hyping this "concession" talk up to create more drama. As the deadline for the debt ceiling nears, it is going to get a lot crazier in order to hike up ratings.

We have to look at the facts - not the drama.

    Love the Gasman. He's right.

After the swearing in on January 20, 2009 my t-bagger relatives were sure the world would end; or at least FEMA operatives would drag "good christians" from their homes to re-education camps.

Truly disturbing is right. Incredible for these people to try and give our shameful history of enslaving other human beings the positive "family values" twist. To add insult to injury they neatly "forget" that these slave families were sold apart all the time, at the whim of the white masters.

And, to turn the the civil rights movement into a negative for African-Americans is despicable.

The marriage thing is like a cult and they worship it. How can some Americans continue to sink lower and become less informed; spiritually, mentally, and emotionally?
