Alaskans prepare for arctic version of the "perfect storm."

Courtesy of ADN:

Evacuations have begun in some Alaska coastal communities, including Nome (see below), ahead of a powerful storm that's moving across the Bering Sea toward the western Alaska coast. The storm, packing hurricane-force winds, has the potential for coastal flooding, extensive beach erosion and serious damage, according to the National Weather Service.

"This will be extremely dangerous and life threatening storm of an epic magnitude rarely experienced," the Weather Service said in a bulletin earlier today.

Even though Alaskans are quite experienced at dealing with severe weather, THIS storm has everybody on edge and even native communities who have lived along the coast for centuries are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of their people.

Here in Anchorage we are protected from a direct hit, and may likely remain relatively untouched by the storm, but in other areas along the western coast adequate preparation may be the difference between life and death.

Stay safe Alaska!

Is this what the C4Pers meant by an earthquake for Sarah? I pray everyone gets out and there is not too much damage.
The real earthquake is down here...Ohioans are sane; even the Mississippians realized how horrible the 'personhood' amendment is. And Dems are retaining or regaining state seats as well. Wonder how the "GOP mandate" evaporated so quickly? One word, Boehner: JOBS.

I pray for those in the path of this storm. To echo AKinPA, Godspeed.

OT with Ohiovoter - Amen! We are waking up! Let's hope the momentum continues as it has started in OH and MS!

  8. Anyone who has survived a vicious storm knows well to take warnings very, very seriously. You can't always outsmart Mother Nature. Stay safe, Alaska and get your emergency kits ready.

Kudos to the people of Ohio for overturning SB5. And the people of Mississippi for voting down the anti-life-packaged-as-pro-life-bill.

Things are looking up for everyone.

  9. Good luck to the 'real' Alaskans who are in the path of this storm, the ones who have had to hone survival skills for eons and know real struggle and danger. Not like those who only claim to be rugged individualists.

Any chance a certain former AK pol is standing on the shore gazing over at Russia looking for her former career?? One can dream, right?

Seriously, hope all is well with those in the path. Warm thoughts and prayers to all.

    Yes, stay safe Alaska!

Here's something to warm the cockles of your hearts up there:

Arizona has elected a Democratic mayor for both Phoenix and Tucson! And, drum roll please, Russell Pearce is OUT!

If Arizona can kick out the Rethugs, so can the rest of the country. It could be a good sign that people are truly fed up.

Warms my heart and it's freezing here too.

LUckily you don't have a total nitwit for gov who would likely run to the local big box, pick up a box of cookies and deliver them to the natives - sometime next Tuesday.

C$P has a post up praying about the storm, too...sample:

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for your divine protection over Alaska. We come against the severe weather conditions and render them harmless and ineffective against the Palins and fellow Alaskans involved. You have given your angels charge of the Palins... that no weapon formed against them shall prosper. We plead the blood of Jesus Christ over them. May Your peace Lord fill their hearts and minds... in Jesus' name we pray.

Wholly shit. This is the mindset of the folks that literally worship that fraud. scary.

Stay Safe! And listen to the warnings, We just got over our small (by comparison) storm on the east coast, and the warnings helped save a lot of lives.

I feel badly especially for the native and the poor, they always bear the brunt of damgage in natural disasters.

Hey, Grypb, you survived Palin- this should be a cakewalk by comparison, but good luck anyway!

Loose Era, I don't know whether to laugh or scream at those C4P prayers. Like no one else in Alaska matters except the Palins? They've got a nice big house and enough money to flee the state if they think the conditions look dangerous.

Oh, and someone needs to tell the C4peeps that no weapon against the Palins will prosper for the simple reason that weapons are inanimate objects and therefore cannot prosper. (Yes, I teach English.) I am also reeling at the hubris of assuming that God has "given your angels charge of the Palins." How does anyone know that? How can anyone make a claim like that?!

Well. Stay safe and warm, Gryph, your daughter, her dog, and the rest of you in Alaska!

@LindaArizona and others: YESSSS! Russell Pearce is out, the single most effective bringer of shame to our state. And I'm glad the Democratic mayors won, also. All we need now is for somebody to unseat the Brewer bitch. Maybe the tide is finally turning here.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but our pansy ass governor has not issued one press statement re: this storm--not one! He hasnt encouraged anyone to seek safety, follow recommendations for taking care of self, family and property, nothign. What fine leader he is--NOT.

I think im the only Alaskan about to post on here experiencing the storm. Well, its not that big of a deal so far where im from, which is in the predicted storm zone in the lower region. Wind is definitely blowing and the worst has probably been a good shake on my house, but im sure we'll survive here. no snow at all...yet, but its blowing it around. So, i guess so far so good. Thanks everyone for caring.

Stay safe, Alaskans - that is one huge storm! Don't worry, if devastation occurs - Sarah just started baking a batch of her favorite cookies, maybe two batches - to alleviate any suffering. Hope she doesn't burn them!

This comment from c4p will make you puke:

Talk about guts, endurance and fortitude, that describes the Heaths and Palins.Chuck moved his family there a few weeks after a 9.2 earthquake For forty some years they've survived 30 below, 60-70 below wind chills.Todd goes through this weather at a 100 miles an hour, with broken body parts and severe bruises.Sarah regularly runs in 30 below weather. Folks these families put our cushy, lower 48 lifestyles to shame. As Governor, Sarah would fly to these remote villages in the dead of winter in a state owned prison plane and traverse on snow machines to meet the people.A stong faith is the only sane way to survive Alaska, most use drugs and booze to compensate.Valley Forge would have been a piece of cake for Todd and Sarah.

Most of the prayers go out to the palins, oh, and a few for the real Alaskans who are actually in danger from this storm.

    Stay safe up there.
