"And if it weren't for prayer warriors interceding, and creating a prayer shield around us, oh my gosh you'd think you'd just be in a fetal position somewhere, covered up in the covers in our igloo up North." More craziness from Palin's speech to the Extraordinary Women Conference. Update!

Okay I found this portion of her screech to be especially egregious, as Alaskans have for years been trying to dispel that bullshit image that we live in igloos up here. Even the native Alaskans never really did build igloos, despite every Hollywood stereotype that said otherwise.

So now what does arguably the most famous Alaskan do? She continues to perpetuate the myth.

As if I needed yet another reason to dislike the woman.

I also found it interesting that she used the term "fetal position" which is exactly how the movie Game Change depicted her after she became overwhelmed with the responsibilities of her VP candidacy. (Perhaps somebody DID see that move after all, hmm?)

The rest of the video shows her continuing to play the victim, screeching that Christians are being persecuted, and telling of how she never retreated, but only "reloaded," when things got tough. (I guess "reloading" is what she was doing when she hid in her Wasilla home when her job got too tough for her, or after she quit her post as governor in the face of ethics charges, or what she was doing when she virtually abandoned her house the summer that Joe McGinniss lived next door.)

By the way, apparently Palin's new word of the day is "Orwellian."

Update: Apparently Palin CANNOT give a speech without bringing up the Trig Truthers and  declaring that she could have proved he was her son by showing her stretch marks.

No you idiot, you need a birth certificate, not the raisin tummy that resulted from the birth of four children!

That would be the natural response of ANY parent who had nothing to hide by the way.

And of course since she brought up her Trig mythology she also had to bring up her Track mythology.

Essentially same shit, different day with this idiot.

That is one short skirt! Must have some street corners to work so they can get enough money to get back up north and crawl up in a fetal position. She is one sick puppy!

  2. Nobody takes this woman seriously anymore and the ones that do, simply aren't worth our time or frustration. I find it hilarious that she went to so much trouble to denounce the portrayal of her in "Game Change", but continues to perpetuate that portrayal with her actions and words. She's pathetic and it's kind of sad actually.

  3. With all her talk about George Orwell ("Orwellian") I'm sure Sarah is hoping there really IS a "Memory Hole." Sorry, Sarah. It's all on YouTube and the books (McGinniss, Dunn, Tripp and others) and films (Game Change) aren't going away, either. You're just a sad little Tweaker who's married to a Pimp and has illiterate, hillbilly children. And now you're reduced to speaking to your "Base." Good name for them, BTW. Now here's the Memory Hole that your bad deeds (Tucson? Trig?) will never see:

"A memory hole is any mechanism for the alteration or disappearance of inconvenient or embarrassing documents, photographs, transcripts, or other records, such as from a web site or other archive, particularly as part of an attempt to give the impression that something never happened.[1][2] The concept was first popularized by George Orwell's dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four."

And to think she's supposed to be a professional speaker and she's making the big bucks for this.

I see no improvement from the time she made her first "professional" speech in Hong Kong... in fact she's become worse over these 2 1/2 years.

The more she's addressing her 'base,' the more consonants, vowels, sentence structures and passages are casualties of speech. Malaprops and non sequitur abound as her personal and family lore becomes greater and 'fresher' with each bold take.

She's a f------ idiot and embarrassment to the State of Alaska! I'm so thankful the media isn't giving her the attention they once did. Her Facebook entries are going largely unnoticed and she's becoming more and more of a HAS BEEN! The HBO movie "Game Change" has had its impact there is no doubt and there isn't a damned thing she can do about it.

Sorrow goes to those poor christian women having to listen to the presentation of a 'supposed' christian who practices none of the faith structure they were taught. Palin known not even to attend church when in her community or elsewhere for that matter. Bristol is on record as to have said 'they are too busy'!

Remember ladies, Palin has been proven to be a rampant liar (when she doesn't even need to lie!), cheater, took money that wasn't hers from the State of Alaska (which she was made to reimburse), to be unethical (Alaska Legislature), to have had affairs outside of her marriage, to be a poor wife and mother and I'm sure more will come out about her evil ways should she try to run for either the first or second highest posts in the U.S.

She needs to be in a straight jacket and put in a mental institute! Why hasn't her family had an intervention?

She believes in the dominionist seven mountains, as evidenced by her criticisms of Obama and her professed love for Israel. All the Jews must return to Israel so they can be killed or converted before the Rapture. She is crazy enough to believe all of this. Yes she does.

    6. I think she can't really wrap her head around the idea of submitting to Someone greater than her.

But she likes that many people prattle on about her having been chosen by God, and while she can't grasp it very well (God? Greater than me?!) she is more than willing to go along with it if it gets her what she wants.

She talks the talk, while these people work to do God's (Sarah's) will here on earth, elect Sarah (God) to public office and submit to God (Sarah) and worship God (Sarah), etc.

I think that for Sarah the whole "God" thing only makes sense with her being God. But if other people want to go on about some Being greater than her (as if!), she will go along as it will eventually put Sarah (God) on top where she belongs.

I don't think someone as narcissistic as Sarah can really comprehend the idea of someone greater than her.

  11. I can't watch it, sorry.

What I've learned from Sarah & those she chooses to be friends with, show me that their brand of Conserva-Christianity does not reflect or look within themselves, but instead blames & belittles those which they fear or do not understand. That is shamefully sad.

The society in which they dream to return has been ruined by their cruel & decisive antics. If they chose to live by the teachings of Jesus, our world would be a much pleasant place.

Living by the golden rules would make our country much nicer. A good example of this is our President and his family.

Graceful is how I describe the Obamas.

Sarah is the text book psychology example of projection. Instead of admitting that she wasn't carefully vetted when she was chosen as the VP nominee, Sarah has decided that after three and a half years as President, Barack Obama still hasn't been vetted. Sarah has it mixed up.

As for calling something Orwellian, Sarah is right. When she tries to rewrite history, uses propaganda, misinformation, denial and lies, it is Sarah who is channeling Orwell. The Branchflower Report found that Sarah Palin abused her office of govern in trying to get her brother-in-law fired. Sarah claimed that she had been exonerated. That is an example of The Big Lie, and the way Sarah practices it, if she tells it often enough, in her mind, it becomes the truth.

The best example of The Big Lie is that Sarah gave birth to Trig. There is no doubt that Trig is her now her son (legally?), but as for the giving birth story, we have seen the photos of Sarah a couple of weeks before she claims to have given birth-- and her abdomen is perfectly flat. Meanwhile, Bristol keeps receiving too many payoffs-- I wonder why.

Sarah Palin wants a brokered convention where all of those prayer warriors will pray Sarah into the nomination. (In your dreams, Sarah). The further that Sarah moves to the right, she becomes less and less electable as anything, especially president. The election is determined by independents and moderates, and moderates are not the people attention those extreme submissive Christian women's conferences. Moderate, independent women think for themselves, and they don't believe Sarah's rewritten version of history.

where did he get the idea for what has become "Orwellian"

What I find EXTREMELY interesting is The Queen's ref to "prayer warriors." Some of you may remember the brief report re: the "Samurai sword ceremony" that SP attended in June, 2008, a couple of months before she was "announced" as McCain's VP pick, but perhaps new IM readers don't. Here's some info from a HuffPo article at the time (boldface mine):

"On June 7th, 2008 Sarah Palin interrupted her schedule of state business and spent Alaska state taxpayer money to fly up from Juneau to the Mat-Su Valley where she attended on June 8th two religious events dominated by the Wasilla Assembly of God, which is demonstrably Palin's key Alaska church.

"At the end of one those events, young adults in a church Palin had attended for over two decades were presented with Samurai swords. 'Warriors of old were considered undressed if they were without their sword...Swords were worn in service to the lord of the realm. Some of the most renowned swordsmen were the Samurai,' intoned a church member officiating the sword ceremony, who then quoted Psalms 149 verses 6-9:

May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double edged sword in their hands to inflict vengeance on the nations, and punishment on the peoples, and to bind their kings with fetters, their nobles with shackles of iron, and to carry out the sentence written against them.

"In one of the two ceremonies Palin attended on June 8, 2008, known as 'One Lord Sunday,' a Christian supremacist gathering of Mat-Su valley area Christian church members, Palin was blessed and anointed by Wasilla Assembly of God head pastor Ed Kalnins. A second ceremony Palin attended that day was nationally publicized because of footage on the Wasilla church's website that showed Palin giving a speech in honor of students graduating from the Wasilla Assembly of God's Masters Commission program.

"In the speech, governor Palin effused, 'It was so cool growing up in this church!' and went on to suggest the US military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan was sanctioned by God, and the governor. [Which governor? Her??]...But media did not delve into the nature of the Masters Commission program, nor did reporters and journalists, or bloggers for that matter, bother to watch the video segment of the June 8th, 2008 Wasilla AoG video segment in full.

"Anyone who did so would have noticed, later on in the ceremony, 1) a speaker addressing Palin from the stage, indicating she was still in the audience and, 2) shortly after, a ceremony in which a speaker invoked the Samurai code of honor and male 3-year Masters Commission students were then presented with Samurai swords.

"Special note was made of the specific uses of the Samurai swords gifted to the students, such as cutting down opponents from horseback, ground-level combat, and in very close combat -- as an auxiliary blade to be plucked out for a sudden, killing blow...

"From September through to November 4th, 2008, there was an almost uniform failure...to notice such unusual and highly distinctive characteristics of Palin's religious associations...following the election, a story printed in the February 2009 issue of Charisma Magazine confirmed Palin's continuing association with Alaska religious leader Mary Glazier.

"Glazier is a high level leader in a religious movement known as the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). She and Sarah Palin prayed together, both over the phone and in person, the Charisma story revealed.

"On June 13, 2008 Mary Glazier told attendees at the 'Opening the Gate of Heaven on Earth' conference, who represented many of the New Apostolic Reformation's top leaders, that,

'There is a tipping point, at which, at which time, because of the sin of the land, the people then have to be displaced...God is preparing a people to displace the ones whose sin is rising so that then they tip over and the church goes in -- one is removed and the church moves in and takes the territory. Now, that does not mean that the people are removed, because God removes them from the Kingdom of Darkness into the Kingdom of Light. They are given an opportunity to change allegiances...'

And then there's our stellar Secretary of State. What a difference in how she speaks.

...Nations that invest in women’s employment, health, and education are just more likely to have better outcomes. Their children will be healthier and better educated. And all over the world, we’ve seen what women do when they get involved in helping to bring peace. So this is not just the right thing to do for us to hold up these women, to support them, to encourage their involvement; this is a strategic imperative.

And that’s why at the State Department, I’ve made women a cornerstone of American foreign policy. I’ve instructed our diplomats and development experts to partner with women, to find ways to engage and build on their unique strengths, help women start businesses, help girls attend school, push that women activists will be involved in peace talks and elections. It also means taking on discrimination, marginalization, rape as a tactic of war. I have seen the terrible abuses and what that does to the lives of women, and I know that we cannot rest until it is ended.

In December, we launched a U.S. National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security, which is our roadmap for how we accelerate and institutionalize efforts across the United States Government to advance women’s participation. And we’re taking on some really tough problems. We’re trying to build local capacity. We’re giving grants to train women activists and journalists in Kenya in early-warning systems for violence. We’re supporting a new trauma center for rape victims in Sudan. We’re helping women in the Central African Republic access legal and economic services. We’re improving the collection of medical evidence for the prosecution of gender-based violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

And that’s just the beginning, because from around the world, from Iraq and Afghanistan to Sudan to the new transitional democracies in the Middle East and North Africa, we’re expecting our embassies to develop local strategies to empower women politically, economically, and socially...

A Psychiatrist’s Perspective on Obama: “His work is not done. Our need is still real.”

“As a psychiatrist I expected a huge increase in suicides in the Fall and Winter of 2008 and 2009. The hospital staff with which I am affiliated had met several times to discuss the likely impact of the economic catastrophe on mental health. We all remembered the accounts of suicides among those in the financial sector at the start of the Great Depression. What is less well known is that suicide rates across the entire working population in 1929 and 1930 were triple those of 1927 and 1928. We thought, and the literature supported our thinking, that it would be as bad or worse in contemporary America…especially in a culture far less religious than that one was.

It turned out not to be so. We have certainly experienced an increase in cases of clinical and situational depression, but that increase has been less than ten percent. This has been the experience across the country. Why?

I want to suggest that Barack Obama and the ‘Spirit of Hoped-For Change’ is the key. The record crowds at his inauguration came to celebrate, yes, but also to seek comfort. Read his inaugural address with this in mind and it takes on a very different meaning.

As Democrats, we need to stop apologizing when the GOP charge that many of us foolishly believed that Obama was “The One.” I think we need to accept, indeed embrace, that he was indeed the “essential one” whose tone, public discourse, and sense of cool, calm confidence were what we desperately needed, no matter what our political leanings. The President is, whether for good or ill, the patriarch of the nation. In this case, he has clearly worked to and for our good. His work is not done. Our need is still real."

    Obama 2012.

I remember when a national / international crisis would occur when Bush was in office - I would become stressed, worried, very concerned about what might happen. During the past 3 1/2 years when I've heard of an incident, happening that might be significant, I'm much more calm. I believe President Obama "has our backs" and I trust him much, much more than I did the Bushes to make the right decision.

Interesting Perspective and an excellent read. When 911 happened, and we were attacked. I felt GWB had no clue as to how to act, but to be fair, I doubt anyone would have. Yet Bush did his best to quell people's fears, but his best really wasn't good enough.
I can only speak for myself, but I was waiting for "the other shoe to fall" when we went to war, and Bush's brilliant solution? God Shopping, don't let them know they've sucseeded in terrifying us. And he lied to start an unjust war of vendetta against Hussein for "Trying to get my daddy killed".
My husband's plane was diverted to Nova Scotia, perfect strangers took him in and others. They used their resources to have trauma experts and doctors available. Something I'm grateful for and will never forget.
I was left on my own, caring for my children, and no one stepped forward to ask if we were ok or needed help. And my president was saying "Go Shopping!"
With President Obama's leadership, not once have I felt traumatized by his decisions, quite the opposite. I know someone who thinks before he acts, and genuinely wants to deliver hope and change while reminding us we're all in this together has made a big difference for our country and the world.

Her creepy connections to this group was casually mentioned by Joe McGinniss in one of his final book chapters, but it deserves a good deal more more attention and followup than it has received.

Also check out Daily Kos postings on Joel's Army dating back to pre-election 2008. There's a lot a lot of material and it is truly horrifying!

Gryphen, someone sent this article to me recently. It's from some time ago, but I missed it first time around. Although I have would argue with any number of conclusions he's come to, I still found it interesting and thought provoking and thought your readers would as well. I did like this part, it really speaks to my viewing of him as well:

Obama on the Couch: Inside the Mind of the President

'Obama’s easily observed characteristics—his abilities to link thinking and feeling, to listen to and assimilate the feelings of others, to transform their input into new thoughts, to have a firm grip on internal and material reality, and to consult both his passions and conscience when making decisions—exemplify strong mental health.

They also reveal his personal triumph over a turbulent childhood, and we’ll explore how many of his positive attributes—such as his brilliant facility with language, his calm in the face of chaos, and his ability to find common ground and build consensus—in fact developed out of coping mechanisms in response to the challenges he faced growing up.'

    http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/blogs/national-affairs/obama-on-the-couch-inside-the-mind-of-the-president-20111111

So much gelled for me when I read the NY Times article about his mother and the story within that article as to what a young Barack dealt with really crystalized my insight and understanding of him.

    Obama’s Young Mother Abroad

Over lunch, Barry, who was 9 at the time, sat at the dining table and listened intently but did not speak. When he asked to be excused, Ann directed him to ask the hostess for permission. Permission granted, he got down on the floor and played with Bryant’s son, who was 13 months old. After lunch, the group took a walk, with Barry running ahead. A flock of Indonesian children began lobbing rocks in his direction. They ducked behind a wall and shouted racial epithets. He seemed unfazed, dancing around as though playing dodge ball “with unseen players,” Bryant said. Ann did not react. Assuming she must not have understood the words, Bryant offered to intervene. “No, he’s O.K.,” Ann said. “He’s used to it.”

“We were floored that she’d bring a half-black child to Indonesia, knowing the disrespect they have for blacks,” Bryant said. At the same time, she admired Ann for teaching her boy to be fearless. A child in Indonesia needed to be raised that way — for self-preservation, Bryant decided. Ann also seemed to be teaching Barry respect. He had all the politeness that Indonesian children displayed toward their parents. He seemed to be learning Indonesian ways.

“I think this is one reason he’s so halus,” Bryant said of the president, using the Indonesian adjective that means “polite, refined, or courteous,” referring to qualities some see as distinctively Javanese. “He has the manners of Asians and the ways of Americans — being halus, being patient, calm, a good listener.

In “Game Change” the movie, Sarah says “I know what I know.” Steve Schmitt and Nicole Wallace may have been baffled by that, and the director may have never has a script with phrases like “ a servant’s heart”and “prayer warriors,” but any kid who had an evangelical parent knows what those things mean. Those were in my personal lexicon before I took my SATs. But unlike Sarah, I don’t use them today any more than the French I took. I’m very different than my high school self. Life experience and an intellectual curiosity worked to lessened some of my religious certitude. College and graduate school opened my mind further, and widowhood in my forties and single parenting of teenagers took me places Sarah has not been - places I do not wish on anyone. But I do wish she would grow up.
Even though she is a grandmother approaching fifty, she is often compared to a mean school girl. She's as self-centered as an adolescent; she thinks she knows it all, she puts herself before others, and when you add to that a heavy dose of religious conceit, you have Sarah from Alaska. Next time she’s called a mean girl, remember, she’s a religious mean girl.

Religious superiority is partly responsible for Sarah Palin's lack of shame. She has what I call bumper-sticker Christianity. Bumper stickers can be passive-aggressive ways to preach or brag or say which team you support. Like the one given to Sarah that reads "My Kid Has More Chromosomes Than Your Kid," Sarah might just as quickly gravitate to one that says "My Boss is a Jewish Carpenter." The depth of Sarah's Christianity matches the thickness of a bumper sticker. But she really doesn't have to worry. She knows once saved, always saved. Sarah knows she's mean. Sarah knows she lies. Sarah knows she's greedy. But she can dismiss it by repeating another bumper sticker phrase, “Christians aren’t perfect, they’re forgiven.”

She’s incorrigible. I don’t think she will ever change because the path she took brought her fame and money.

Whether or not she birthed Trig, she is truly challenged to come up with a rational explanation as to how she has proven he is her biological son. It is simply irrational to say her stretch marks prove he is hers. She was a mother four times previous to Trig. And, no, Sarah, you have yet to provide a birth certificate. And, If you truly believe it is absurd nobody believes you, just get over your victim self and provide a copy of the certificate.

  50. I listened to the first video while sitting on my balcony. At the end of it, I looked up as I tried to figure out WTH the fool woman had said. There's a palm tree a few feet from my balcony. A squirrel was sitting motionless, just staring at me. He looked pissed. Her screeching scared the squirrels! Those squirrels ignore sirens, car wrecks, kids playing but Sarah Palin stops them dead in their tracks. No more listening to Palin on the balcony without a "shill" to protect me from angry and offended squirrels.

At least part of that speech was a word-for-word replay of an earlier speech (speeches?) where she says she was "giving her energy speech in Texas...leaving the stage...Gov. Perry remarks that she's going to have a baby when she replies 'I said Yes. And I did have Trig later on that night'". I remember that because "later that night" would have been April 17th but her story is always "TriG was born the next morning at 6:30 a.m. April 18th"

TriG was born in Wasilla or TriG was born in Anchorage? That night or the next morning? Who flippin cares? No normal mother remembers little details about their flippin kids' births. Right?

You are giving Sarah too much credit. She cannot write a speech anymore than she writes her facebook posts or scripts her answers on Fox. "Game Change" let us know that Sarah cannot learn anything. Need further proof? Sarah came out of a lecture about Paul Revere and got the history lesson all wrong, ringing those bells and firing those warning shots.

On her bus trip to NY last summer, she was asked about the message of the Statue of Liberty. (The clue is in the name, "liberty.") Sarah said that the statue was a gift to remind us not to make the same mistakes that Europe did. Huh???? No one has ever said that about the Statue of Liberty.

Sarah simply cannot learn anything. My guess is that she is ADDH along with some other cognitive problems. She cannot process information. I don't think that she remembers which Korea is our friend, and which one is the enemy.

So, Sarah cannot write a speech. She has told this one story so often that she kind of remembers it, sometimes mixing up Trig at 7 1/2 months in Anchorage with Trig at 8 months at MatSu. As Steve Schmidt pointed out in the movie, Sarah can memorize about 25 things and find the chance to spit them back. She cannot comment on how Trig is doing now because she is not involved in his therapy and can't answer any questions about it or him. If the therapist explained why they do a certain exercise, Sarah won't understand it. It is all that she can do to tell the same old story and find some people who haven't heard it before, or love the retelling of the Myth of Trig.

    http://www.patheos.com/blogs/bristolpalin/2012/03/mr-president-when-should-i-expect-your-call/

For those who don't want to click the link, here's the post below. Looks like RAM or Ms. French is still on the payroll....

    "Dear President Obama,

You don’t know my telephone number, but I hope your staff is busy trying to find it. Ever since you called Sandra Fluke after Rush Limbaugh called her a slut, I figured I might be next. You explained to reporters you called her because you were thinking of your two daughters, Malia and Sasha. After all, you didn’t want them to think it was okay for men to treat them that way:

“One of the things I want them to do as they get older is engage in issues they care about, even ones I may not agree with them on,” you said. “I want them to be able to speak their mind in a civil and thoughtful way. And I don’t want them attacked or called horrible names because they’re being good citizens.”

And I totally agree your kids should be able to speak their minds and engage the culture. I look forward to seeing what good things Malia and Sasha end up doing with their lives.

But here’s why I’m a little surprised my phone hasn’t rung. Your $1,000,000 donor Bill Maher has said reprehensible things about my family. He’s made fun of my brother because of his Down’s Syndrome. He’s said I was “f—-d so hard a baby fell out.” (In a classy move, he did this while his producers put up the cover of my book, which tells about the forgiveness and redemption I’ve found in God after my past – very public — mistakes.)

If Maher talked about Malia and Sasha that way, you’d return his dirty money and the Secret Service would probably have to restrain you. After all, I’ve always felt you understood my plight more than most because your mom was a teenager. That’s why you stood up for me when you were campaigning against Sen. McCain and my mom — you said vicious attacks on me should be off limits.

Yet I wonder if the Presidency has changed you. Now that you’re in office, it seems you’re only willing to defend certain women. You’re only willing to take a moral stand when you know your liberal supporters will stand behind you.

    But…

What if you did something radical and wildly unpopular with your base and took a stand against the denigration of all women… even if they’re just single moms? Even if they’re Republicans?

I’m not expecting your SuperPAC to return the money. You’re going to need every dime to hang on to your presidency. I’m not even really expecting a call. But would it be too much to expect a little consistency? After all, you’re President of all Americans, not just the liberals."

Bringing up your stretch marks is so very Presidential, Sarah.

    Truly cringe-worthy.

  64. So, the Flying Monkey Queen found a forum she can believe in.. siting around in a auditorium chanting scripture and doing Holy-Roller stuff...

Well, that may have some following among the slave (women) population of the rethuglicon party.( I use the term 'slave' to define any one that has GIVEN UP THE RIGHT TO DECIDE the fate of their own physical body to old, fat, wrinkly white men).. What should truly have been the gage of Queen Mum's stature in the world is whether or not she was invited to speak / participate in the Women in the World forum in NYC over the last few days. That gathering saw an ASTOUNDING mixture of women that were doing astounding things in the face of almost irrational opposition, and making a difference world-wide for women of all persuasions. Alas, the Queen Mum was relegated to waving scripture leaflets in a dark, dingy almost padded cell-like surrounding...

THAT speaks volumes about her influence even among her own gender..
