Courtesy of Mother Jones:
Documents filed with the Department of Labor and dated December 2012—three months after the company's owners filed their lawsuit—show that the Hobby Lobby 401(k) employee retirement plan held more than $73 million in mutual funds with investments in companies that produce emergency contraceptive pills, intrauterine devices, and drugs commonly used in abortions. Hobby Lobby makes large matching contributions to this company-sponsored 401(k).
Several of the mutual funds in Hobby Lobby's retirement plan have holdings in companies that manufacture the specific drugs and devices that the Green family, which owns Hobby Lobby, is fighting to keep out of Hobby Lobby's health care policies: the emergency contraceptive pills Plan B and Ella, and copper and hormonal intrauterine devices.
Seriously?
These assholes are making money off of the companies which manufacture these medications while also suing so that their female employees don't get access to them through the company health plan?
And just when I thought I had seen it all.
Doesn't surprise me. What does it that lawyers for the government are not shouting this from the rooftops and in the SC courtroom. They cannot be against these meds if they are investing money in the companies who make and distribute them. End of case.
ReplyDeleteOf course they can. It's not the meds they're against. It's enabling the women on their particular plantation to use them. THAT'S what they're against.
DeletePlantation...So when will they provide free housing and food for all us "serfs"???
DeleteHey don't mess with their profit margin people! They can buy and sell to whomever they want doncha'know! 'Cause its their Gawd Given Right to make a ton of money - while at the same time controlling those pesky, promiscuous females who work for them. (and save $ on their health care premiums too).
ReplyDeleteBingo.
DeleteWow. Just wow. I can't wait to hear what Hobby Lobby has to say in response to this.
ReplyDeleteThey will say its irrelevant, and unfortunately, they will be right.
DeleteActually it is NOT irrelevant at all. It goes to show that they do not run every aspect of their business by their religious beliefs which is exactly the reason why
Deletethey say they do not want to supply any insured with contraceptive coverage.
They won't say anything at all, just like every other organization that is called out on their hypocrisy. Then we all move on. Disgusting.
Deleteto 7:54 How is it irrelevant? How can you buy into birth control on one hand, and deny it to others on the other hand? I don't get it.
DeleteIt's irrelevant because Hobby Lobby is suing the government for infringing upon its constitutional rights. Period. It also has the right to spend/invest its money however it wishes, as long as there is no legal impediment. It may be hypocritical, but that's fundy Christianity all over -- hypocritical. Otherwise, it's totally irrelevant to HL's case against the government.
DeleteI believe 7:54 is saying it's irrelevant to people who support Hobby Lobby.
Deletethankyou 9:17 for your clear answer to my question of relevancy. The law is the law, and I guess we'll have to face that reality; and continue to hope for a rational legal decision from the Court.
DeleteWe call this frontin' and all gop do it. It's in their freakin DNA.
DeleteIt's against the law, better the constitution for hobby lobby to infringe on women's rights, to life, liberty and the happiness while they make insane money off of what they don't want any woman to have base on their *ahem* "religious convictions." GTFOH
They are breaking at least 3 - 4 amendments, 2 bill of rights.
They are part of the "American Taliban"! Our way or the highway! Do as I say (not as I do) Religion has no place in gov-work-schools... it is supposed to be a PRIVATE matter. Don't want to use BC? Fine don't...don't want a abortion? Fine, don't...But don't impose your religious bullshit on everyone else. The "Founders" as they are always saying... were against this behavior and put in place articles in the constitution that these bastards are trying to tear down. We must always oppose Religious Bullshit that infringes on our RIGHTS!
ReplyDeleteI'm sick of all this bullshit and POTUS is hamstrung by "do nothing congress" and Supreme court, most them Bushie appointees...
We will turn into American Taliban! There will be discrimination allowed, I can see it now on a job interview "are you a christian"? if you answer no, you will be rejected for the job which is supposed to be illegal in and discriminatory!
Everyone VOTE BLUE in NOV. and Boycott Religious Talibani places like hobby lobby-papa johns-chikfila any of 'em, all of 'em!!! (as stoopid says)
Wow 7:41 Exactly!
DeleteWell Said!
DeleteOT "Red, Wild and Blue America starts its celebration tomorrow night! The great American spirit will shine through the inspiring and entertaining stories we'll bring you each week. Together we're going to live life vibrantly!"
ReplyDeleteLadies and Gentlemen, presenting the "They are living their lives vibrantly" Troll. It's Sarah Palin! (Hint to Sarah: No one talks that except for you. Maybe one of your kids, too. Is she one of your consultants?)
This is just the cherry on top....we already know they fill their stores with cheap goods made in China and any other country with sub human wages, horrible working conditions and who gives a shit women's rights, nothing from "made in America". I hope our sides read the papers and slams the krap out of these super hypocrites. David Corn is so damn awesome and he managed again to blow the lid off something hugely important to us.
ReplyDeleteHobby Lobby (as far as I know) hasn't invaded my country yet, but I would urge a major boycott of those stores if I lived in the U.S. I personally boycott WalMart -- only time I ever enter a WalMart here is to use the bathroom, and only if it's urgent!!!
ReplyDeleteits the palin fundy manner, do as we say, not what we do
ReplyDeleteThat's different. They're making money off it. It's OK to make money off it as long as they don't have to pay for it for their own employees. Hypocrisy at it's best.
ReplyDeleteHobby Lobby's merchandise comes from China, a country that does practice birth control and abortion. Either be true to your religion or stop using it so selectively.
ReplyDeleteThat was the longest 31 seconds I ever sat through.
ReplyDeleteOops, wrong post. That 31 seconds was Sarah Palin.
ReplyDeleteWell, well, well the plot's bagging.
ReplyDeleteJust like romney's abortion clean up scheme.
I saw the article yesterday, but thought it was an April-fool post. I simply cannot wrap my mind around hypocrisy like that.
ReplyDeleteO/T Colbert Laments That Millions Of Americans Now Have Access To Affordable Health Care
ReplyDelete"Stephen Colbert put on his best faux conservative hat last night to describe the disaster that had befallen our nation: Obamacare had reached the dreaded 7 million sign-ups and millions more were about to get access to affordable health care. Colbert then went into a montage of the usual suspects (Hannity, Rove, Krauthammer, etc.), all saying the usual things."
Colbert repeated their dire warnings back to them:
COLBERT: How many are young? How many have paid? What if their check doesn’t clear? What are numbers anyway but artificial constructs? And did you know that these are Arabic numerals? I mean, the ’3′ is just two Islamic crescent moons stacked on top of each other.”
“The terrorists have won,” he concluded."

It's perfectly fine to invest in companies that make them money, that's the 'merican way! HoLo doesn't give a crap as long as their right to impose their religious beliefs on female employees as an excuse to not pay health coverage for birth control.
ReplyDeleteI wonder, if the christian taliban wins, will they stop selling knitting needles and other devices used in back alley abortions?
