Republican super PAC American Crossroads misidentified its second-largest donor last month in paperwork filed Friday with the Federal Election Commission.
The group, co-founded by GOP strategist Karl Rove, listed the Glenmede Trust Company as giving it $300,000 on Aug. 29, part of the $1.7 million American Crossroads raised in August.
Sadly for Karl Rove's super PAC the Glenmede Trust quickly denied making any such contribution, and even contacted American Crossroads to have them change the paperwork.
Which they did:
Several hours later, however, American Crossroads filed an amended report to the FEC that now identifies the $300,000 as coming from Thomas and Sandra Sullivan, the parents of U.S. Senate candidate Dan Sullivan of Alaska. Lindsay confirmed the super PAC changed its report but declined additional comment.
Wait, what? But..but aren't American Crossroads like the BIGGEST donor supporting Dan Sullivan's campaign right now?
And doesn't that kind of mean that Sullivan's parents are essentially financing his campaign to the tune of $300,000 in donations?
Why yes, yes it does.
American Crossroads says it has spent more than $1.3 million in Alaska's U.S. Senate race and reportedly plans to spend $5.5 million in the race.
Must be nice, thanks to the Citizens United case, to have parents with hundreds of thousands to spend on your campaign, and deep pocketed supporters from all over the country, almost exclusively outside of Alaska, willing to donate many more millions to help you win in a state where you are a relative newcomer.
Have I mentioned that Senator Begich's father died quite a number of years back?
Yeah he died while serving Alaskans as their last Democratic Congressman, in a very suspicious plane accident. After which the seat has been continually held by Republican Don Young, a man who could not beat Nick Begich in an actual election.
So sadly Mark Begich does not have parents with loads of money, and a SuperPAC willing to funnel it to him on their behalf.
All he has is integrity, and a desire to do the work for the people of Alaska that his father's untimely death interrupted.
The latest PPP poll shows Begich trailing Sullivan. You guys need to get busy.
ReplyDeleteGet busy how? I'll vote for the guy, but other than that there's not much more a person can do....
DeleteI live in Georgia-I wish I could do something! But I got my own travails here. Let me know what I-as an out of state poor person with no political clout-can do for Mark Begich
ReplyDeleteYou can give a small--tiny, even--donation to Begich through the Act Blue website. Just enter his name. Lots of small donations DO add up. (Begich's website also takes you to Act Blue.) If even tiny is too much, then volunteer a little bit of time for someone in your home state. It'll all even out. :-)
DeleteThanks Liz-I am all over my home state, but I feel as if I've adopted Alaska as well. I will put some money to him!
DeleteExtremely O/T -- "What the Chuck?" hasn't been showing its work ethic. No new posting for a week.
ReplyDeleteBut some eager beaver, probably someone who graduated from high school, has been busy thumbing through Bartlett's Familiar Quotations. Recently the quote of the day has been delivered by Frank Lloyd Wright, Abraham Lincoln, and Alexander Pope.
I'm sure Sarah will refer again soon to Pope. Can't wait to hear her exegesis of who he was in an upcoming speech.
Hey Griffy, it's been 18 days since the night in question. Where's the police report? You said it was comin out this week.
ReplyDelete¿Dónde está el informe de la policía?
Uh, you need to be asking Anchorage Police Dept. where that report is. Not "Griffy". Any delays in its production only points to more coverup from the Anchorage PD regarding the Palins' various crimes.
DeleteWhich is aggravating and unfair. But not at ALL surprising.
Who cares? Only the Palin's care because they can't lie in any public statement until buying up or seeing all of the video.
DeleteSo Sarry, go back and work with Tripp on memorizing his account because it still may be needed.
Hey Brstol, is your hand still sore?
DeletePanish, huh? This must be Isabel or WTH ever her name is from the pee puddle. You're going to be very sorry, CHICA, when it finally dawns on you how you've been taken.
DeleteOh goody, it's the griffy troll. You do realize that this went national, right? And that regardless of whatever hairball the APD finally horks up, the opinion of Americans won't change. Palin and her family are nothing but classless, trashy, ignorant, violent, angry trash. Period. The rest of her "career" will be spent clinging to the outer fringes of politics and likely religious scamming of suckers.
DeleteJoke's on you, Griffy troll. You are too stupid to realize that you and your idiot queen lost. She's done.
Why anyone in Alaska would vote for Sullivan, the carpetbagger, is beyond me. He is just slimy! Plus, he has Karl Rove backing him - yuk!!! And, the money behind him for this race is coming from outside sources and very little from Alaskans!
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait to mark my ballot for Senator Mark Begich who is a true Alaskan, has worked for us throughout the years and has my total support and respect.
Votes count - not money!!!!!
I fail to understand how the GOP continues to dominate the government in Alaska. Palin, Parnel, Young etc do no favors for the average Alaskan. Senator Begich is a true Alaskan unlike Sullivan who comes from somewhere back East and I believe his main residence is there except when he is running for office in Alaska. I hope that Alaskans wake up and vote the Democratic ticket this round. Maybe health care and support for the villages would be available with a Democratic team at the helm.

Yeah he died while serving Alaskans as their last Democratic Congressman, in a very suspicious plane accident.
ReplyDeleteHow come when it comes to eradicating an opponent in Alaska it seems that mysterious airplane crashes is their weapon of choice besides unexplained arson like Dar Miller and some dairy buildings?
You do realize there wasn't anything mysterious about the crash that killed Nick Begich and Hale Boggs other than the plane wreckage was never found. It was socked in and foggy with a low ceiling and the mountains in that area are very rough and filled with large conifers that could easily hide the wreckage. Too much tin-foil hattery is happening regarding this ancient plane crash. Good think I own stock in Reynolds because you guys are making me a buck every time you put on those tin foil caps :-)
DeleteBristol you still worried about going to prison for committing assault on an innocent Alaska citizen and not having a husband for conjugal visits? Well there's always your cell mate to keep you warm during those cold Alaskan winter weather. I'm sure your snowbird mom will fly in from Arizona every once in a while to give you some Top Ramen packages and put some money on your book for snacks and to keep Hilda from having her way with you.
