Courtesy of The Hill:
A liberal group called the Agenda Project is out with a new ad that shows dead bodies and blames Republican-backed budget cuts for deaths from Ebola.
The ad includes a montage of Republican lawmakers saying the word "cut" before showing images of what appear to be people who died from Ebola in Africa. The ad ends with the message: "Republican cuts kill," before the final word on-screen, "vote."
Democratic lawmakers, such as Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), the ranking member of the Budget Committee, have blamed Republican budget cuts for slowing the response to Ebola.
The ad from Agenda Project features a clip of a National Institutes of Health official testifying before Congress that leaving the agency's budget flat for the past 10 years has been "damaging."
The NIH director, Dr. Francis Collins, told The Huffington Post on Friday that an Ebola vaccine would be ready by now if it were not for budget cuts over the past 10 years.
This ad makes that argument in particularly harsh terms.
Okay so my very first take away after watching that ad is that it is too extreme. I am somebody who, as a rule, does not feel that it is right to politicize death and disease.
However then I reminded myself that the Republicans have been blaming this Ebola outbreak on President Obama for weeks now.
Hell even John McCain jumped into the fray only to be called out by Politifact for making dishonest statements.
So I guess if the Republicans are going to use this terrible situation to smear the President then I guess it only seems fair to make sure the blame goes to where it really belongs.
And that is NOT with the President.
FINALLY! John McCain at last being called out for the liar and asshole he truly is and has been for years! His constant bad mouthing of our POTUS is going to hit him in the face too! Americans do not like it, Mr. McCain! You jerk!
ReplyDeleteAnd, that ads are going out blaming the Republicans for their constant obstruction against President Obama! Cutting funding etc.
The are total assholes (Republicans) and it's way past time they actually read the facts in the media as to their horrible ways! It's way past time they be called on their deeds in the U.S. Congress...especially the House!
FINALLY!
It's about fucking time someone in the Democrat party grew a spin! Yes! It's good! Damn good!
ReplyDeleteYES! It is good. Take off the gloves and give 'em hell!
DeleteLoved the mcCain hair on fire!!!!!
X 10,000 to all the foregoing comments. It's long past time to take off the gloves and speak the truth in power. And the truth 'ain't pretty'. Republicans in Texas are now squirming because of the high truth content of Wendy Davis's recent ad, which merely shows the hypocrisy of Greg Abbot, and how that hypocrisy affects the lives of ordinary Texans in devastating ways.
DeleteRepublican policies kill people, and they kill lots of people. With ebola, this carnage will be easier to see. How ironic that ground zero in the US is now Dallas, a super-red zone where the prevailing thinking had been (as they would say it), 'we don't need no stink in' insurance for the poor', 'we don't need no Surgeon General, and we refuse to confirm Obama's Surgeon General Nominee', 'we refuse to give money for the budget of the socialist NIH', 'people who are sick should not be able to take time off when they are sick or get paid sick leave', and, 'we're always the best in everything in Texas, especially when it comes to medical systems.' Every one of these positions is stupid and every one of them has deadly consequences. Lotsa luck, red-state guys: you're going to need it. Even Nigeria now seems to know more than you about how to stop this disease. The Dallas scenario shows clearly how uninsured people are still treated in the
'best' American health systems, and how unprepared those systems still are for communicable disease epidemics (of any origin). Republican policies in super-red Texas have now put not only the poor, but everyone else, at risk of death. And democrats should beat the drums 24/7 in this regard between now and the election.

DeleteAwesome comment! * clapping*!
Little lumpy Johnny is a disgrace, acting just like $kanky $carah. I understand now why he picked her, they are a perfect pair, both racist, bigots, jealous of our President. Neither of them even comes close to the intelligence, class and caring of President Obama. Slimebags, along with the rest of their "party" Cut taxes, cut taxes, bomb EVERYWHERE. They are despicable, bottom feeders. When little Johnny grins like that, I want to punch him right in the face. Too bad Battlin' Bristles did not do that when she was close enough.
DeleteAnonymous 2:12, I seriously believe that the reason the GOPsters have become so unglued about ebola is two-fold. To use their terms, 'it is from Africa (the blah people, blah just like Obama, and all those blah people need to be eliminated, ASAP'; and, 'how DARE we be presented with a problem that can't be solved by guns and bombs?'
DeleteI'm glad they made that ad - frankly, I'm getting sick and tired of the Democrats being "too nice" to fight back against the Republicans who have no such qualms about getting down in the mud.
ReplyDeleteAnd the best way to fight back?
Same as with Sarah Palin: just use their own exact words, in context.
Call them on their BS and don't back down. Between this ad and the Wendy Davis ad we are finally seeing some people willing to stand up. How about this same group running an ad to point out how Republicans want an ebola czar appointed, you know the Republicans who went crazy a few years ago over the term czar. Then they could point out how we don't need a czar because we have a Surgeon General. Oh wait, we don't because the Republicans led by Rand Paul have blocked the appointment.
DeleteThese are the very same republicans who used the sequester for years to deny funding for the National Institute of Health, which today could have an ebola vaccine if it were not for these cuts. It is also the same GOP that refused to confirm President Obama's Surgeon General nominee because that person admitted when asked that, yes, gun shot wounds do kill a large number of children each year. Now they are whining and paranoid about ebola, saying it's all Obama's fault? Puh-leeze. And I've got a bridge to seek them.
DeleteIt is too bad these repubs. like Little Johnny do not have JOBS to do. Too many vacations, too much money, and they are a total waste of space. :ott;e lumpy Johnny probably knows JUST the person for the job of czar, also too. He is trying to find a well paying job for that dumbass doctor from Oklahoma who covered up all the scandals on K street. I can't remember his name, but little Johnny has been trying to get him a good job in DC.
DeleteAnd the truth. The gop can's logically fight facts. It seems to get them all discombobulated.
DeleteWe are left vulnerable with the idiots every time they say CUT! (It really isn't a cut, it's just more money passed to the rich. From OUR pocket/labor to theirs. That's their meaning of a cut.)
Hey GOP, truth hurts eh? People are done taking shit from you wankers
ReplyDeleteAND they refuse to confirm the nominee for Surgeon General because he has the nerve to call gun violence a health problem. Shame on you, GOP. Shame shame shame.
ReplyDeleteThe gop can not handle the TRUTH. They think we are all as dumb as the rednecks who vote for them.
DeleteThe fucking nra stopped it.
DeleteWho the fuck are they the fucking 4th branch of government?
Texas cuts, and cuts, and cuts the health care and science research budget. They refuse the Medicaid expansion. Then the first thing they do in time of trouble is to go crying to the CDC and the federal government,
ReplyDeleteSECEDE ALREADY, jackasses!!!!
Same people who want to drown the federal government in a bathtub. Then they have a hurricane and they're first to go running to FEMA with their hands out and complain because the money's not coming fast enough.
DeleteYes. Then we could put an embargo on you when you try to enter the US and get medical care here!
DeleteYears ago my mother came to visit my sister in California. My brother in law had to sign papers saying HE would pay any medical bills she might incurr during her stay here. Also, that she would NOT become a burden on taxpayers. Imagine if the relatives of the ebola patient from Africa had to pay his medical bills? I married a US airman, it took 3 months to get a visa, my family was checked out, my medical condition was investigated. When did all that stop? Now all people need is the $$$ for a ticket.
DeleteYeah the gop cried foul when it was learned that the "south of the border" brown people were actually going to be screened, MEDICALLY checked-out and housed before finding out what to do with EACH individual or family.
DeletePresident Obama said we will treat them with dignity and respect, like a human being. AGREE!
Leave it up to the gop, they would be treated as chattel.
With the gop scenario the Ebola virus would have found its home. The ignorance of the gop.
Anonymous 2:23, what about having the families of every sick white person pay all their medical expenses? Does that seem like a fair requirement to you? Didn't think so. We are a society, a collection of people who chose to unite on a permanent basis, comprised of human beings, all of whom are equal in the eyes of God. We are not just a chaotic group of unaffiliated and unconnected Lone Rangers, even though that description definitely does fit the GOP's portrayal of America's future (and past). I prefer civilization to uncivil-ization any day of the week. Don't you?
Delete2:23 am: you are correct! I had totally forgotten that part. When I came the first time here, on a visitors visa, I had to show that I was able to support myself by showing with a bank statement From a couple of months, that I had enough money in it to not become a burden here. I also had to show proof of insurance, and proof of good health...
DeleteScarah has been a serious let down for the old Johnny boy. She has always been ready to throw grenades, bomb or total annihilation.
ReplyDeleteNow she can't come up with a better plan than a little invasion of Ebola. I am disappointed. I was sure Bristol and Track were geared up and on their way to clean things up over there.
http://nationalreport.net/sarah-palin-calls-obama-invade-ebola/
You know, I don't think it's right for either side to exploit this crisis for political gain. It's disgusting when the Republicans do it, as they have been doing without shame. But that doesn't mean our side should do it.
ReplyDeleteWe don't need to demagogue Ebola, we need to educate people and keep them from panicking.
Since when speaking the truth exploiting it? It's a simple fact. Politically driven Republican budget cuts have damaged the CDC's and NIH's ability to effectively manage the Ebola crisis. If you are too dainty to call them out on it, you can just go fuck yourself.
Delete6:37
DeleteIf you are a Democrat, you are what is wrong with the party. Pure sissypants. Telling the truth and telling it loudly and often is what we need to do. Grow a spine.
When is telling the truth ever wrong? BTW no one is panicing, the flu kills more every year, but if the GOP is trying to use it what is wrong with laying it back at their feet?
DeleteImagine where we would be today if the other side had vowed to HELP the President, instead of block EVERYTHING he tried to do when he first took office. The mess the country is in today IS the fault of the useless gop members. People need to face the trueth and vote these worthless bastards like little lumpy johnny OUT. The other side puts out lies, we are telling the TRUTH. They can not handle it.
DeleteSorry, but I think this is shameful all around. Why even try to make a political point out of this terrible illness? What does it have to be someone's fault???
ReplyDeleteRepublicans don't respect the high road. Just ask President Obama. He's been taking it for the last 8 years and the lies just keep on coming from the GOP. It's time to take off the gloves nad lay the blame where it belongs. To paraphrase..."All that is needed for evil to prevail is for peple to do nothing."
DeleteHow the disease--not "illness" is treated, and how it's contained--or not--is a direct result of resources and funding and those have been decimated by irresponsible, and Republican led, budget cuts. The severity of this, and many other problems, is a consequence of Republican irresponsibility and negligence.
DeleteBecause it IS the Republicans fault, asshole!
DeleteIt isn't being handled well. It could have been cured by now as could other things. However, our healthcare system is completely about politics and greed. Face the reality. This isn't Disneyland.
DeleteI agree 6:37 whole heartedly. There is no room for finger pointing and certainly not political hay making. We are so stupid in those regards. What we do need is serious leadership at all levels and some logical and definative and clear decisions and direction. No excuses.
DeleteAnonymous 6:37: Do you really, seriously believe that any disease can be fought without money? Then I've got a bridge to sell you. You call funding health care socialism; then you carp when there are gaps in the health care system. Sorry, but you can't have it both ways. You need to spend some time at medical conferences and talking with hospital administrators before opening your mouth again, because you are 'out of your league' at this point.
DeleteIt's all political. Open your eyes. It would be nice if it weren't, but the sad truth is that politics is what is preventing an ebola vaccine from being developed.
Delete8:17... why dont you get back to us when any of the fully socialized heathcare countries discovers the cure for ebola.
Delete8:49
DeleteIt political because it's going to cost money...MY and YOURS.
gop (political) is the party BLOCKING (political commission) or CUTTING (political vote.)
Stop sounding like a fucking dysfunctional gop nutbag with your silly talking points. Dems are finally getting a freakin backbone.
gop yells don't faze me. I and my friends will be seeing their dumbasses come November.
8:49pm : how about the fact that CUBA is sending over 150 DOCTORS and well-trained nurses to Africa, while the US is sending 3000 NON-MEDICAL TROOPS? To me, it somehow sounds very fishy what we are doing. We definitely are NOT trying to HELP - at least not medically!
DeleteIt worked for me. I doubled checked (again) to make sure I am registered to vote after seeing the ad. Mission accomplished!
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that they include a brief clip of our Tundra Hooha!
ReplyDeleteJust donated to the Democrats.
ReplyDeleteThis ad is terrific. It's high time people were made aware that cuts have consequences. It isn't shameful politicization to tell the truth. Democrats spend so much time trying to be polite and not get criticized for this kind of truth-telling, that the general public is often not aware of the very damaging results of Republican policies.
ReplyDeleteThis ass-wipe needs to retire -- and take the grifters with him....
ReplyDeleteI think his wife pays people to keep him in DC. Imagine that little lech living in your house 24 hrs, a day? Cindy has hot young studs to keep her company. Besides, she has bailed little Johnny out more than once when his gambling debts were called in by the MOB. He is a compulsive gambler, and compulsive liar.
DeleteThe McCains have so many homes that Johnny can't remember where they all are! Cindy could send him to her least favorite with a personal servant/guard to keep him out of her home - and we could get him out of DC and off the Sunday news shows. I am tired of this little runt!

Yeah who needs science & medical research funding to cure the country of Ebola when you have "christ" to rely on. Screw education, screw science. Our kids don't need to be learning any of that. All they need is the christian tea party bible in schools. It's the ONLY way we will all be saved from Ebola...we can pray it away! Education sucks...that's why the Palins don't have any. But dang it, with Sarah leading the charge she can fight those evil countries of Ebola and Labia. Hoohah!
DeleteReligion, and her experiences with the oil and gas industry, were the focus of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin's remarks in Williston tonight.
ReplyDeleteOver a thousand people packed the Trinity Christian School to listen to the speech from the 2008 candidate for vice president.

Luckily, there are many churches in Wasilla. Google lists 766 houses of worship in the general area. No Wasilla church, however, has gotten the attention of the Wasilla Assembly of God church on Riley Avenue, where Sarah Palin was first “saved.” Palin attended the church for more than a decade and makes no secret that she’s been heavily influenced by the teachings of Pastor Ed Kalnins, a Mac Davis–coiffed “pre-millennialist” with a gung ho attitude toward the end of days who once reputedly claimed a vote for John Kerry was a one-way ticket to damnation. It was at the Wasilla Assembly of God that Palin, as documented on a much-watched YouTube video, received a preventive exorcism against the sins of witchcraft from a Kenyan Pentecostal pastor, Bishop Thomas Muthee.
Odd how Sarah purports to be a "christian" when she and her entire family act nothing even close to followers of the bible christ. They don't even go to church anymore. On second thought we all know it's an act. The exorcism was to rid her of evil spirits. Obviously it did not work.
DeleteReligion my ass. They are tax-break organizations, pure and simple. Ain't no way little wasilla needs that many "churches." Looks like anyone holding a gun in wasilla has a church. This should be looked into also.
DeleteAk is loaded with crooks.
"I am somebody who, as a rule, does not feel that it is right to politicize death and disease."
ReplyDeleteValid point Gryph..but if it takes politicization to cure diseases, them I'm all for fighting fire with fire.
"Citing contractual issues, event organizers only allowed The Associated Press and other media organizations present to attend several minutes of Palin's speech."
ReplyDeleteTranslation: "No thinking human being was allowed for fear they might interpret Palin's spiel for what it really is: moose shit."
"contractual issues"
ReplyDeleteThe "momma grizzly" is a weenie. The media would ask too many 'gotcha' questions like 'what color is the sky?'. I bet bendy straws and bottled water were also "contractual issues."
Barton is a historian? They sure do like makin' shit up.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they realised that more than a few minutes of that high pitched screech damages ears??
ReplyDelete$carah likely threatened to stay away if they did not keep reporters awat. Did not want a chance of anyone asking about the Hoedown at the Throwdown (Bristles was the ho thrown down)
ReplyDeleteLoL little Obama parrots chirping away the administrations lies and talking points means shit just got real stupid.
ReplyDeleteFacts? Anyone? Anyone?
Remember when the left and idiots who frequent this site blamed Benghazi on sequester or under funding until that was found out to be a lie thanks to the testimony of Charline Lamb (who ya know worked for Clinton and Obama).
Yeah this smells like the same stirred shit.
The CDC actually had their budget triple from 2001 to 2010 and what did they do with the money.
And where oh where did the money go?
Well, it's just like where the money went when the VA received millions and it wasn't put to servicing vets it was for renovations...stuff like new drapes and office furniture for administrators.
Nice.
Dummies, the CDC has received just under $3 billion in transfers from the Prevention and Public Health Fund.
Yet only 6 percent -- $180 million -- of that $3 billion went toward building epidemiology and laboratory capacity.
And what has have they been spending it on?
Not disease preparedness I can tell you that much.
$325,525 for a study showing “wives would be happier if they could calm down faster” in marital spats.
$386,000 to study rabbit massage.
$939,771 on “why fruit flies fall in love.”
$666,905 to study mood relationships with those who watch Seinfeld reruns.
$350,000 on a study of the relationship between golfers and their imagination.
$702,000 to study the impact of TV’s and gas generators. In Vietnam.
$17,000,000 to China to investigate whether 420 prostitutes and 241 of their clients were willing to use ‘microbicides’ (a class of medications that includes nonoxynol-9) during sexual activity in order to combat sexually transmitted diseases. Some of the prostitutes were only 14 years old.
$150,000 to China to learn more about acupuncture.
$1.5 million to study why lesbians are fat.
$423,000 to understand why men “don’t like to wear condoms.”
There you have far left wing boys and girls.
If you like your Ebola you can keep your Ebola.
Well, your cut-and-paste skills are very nice. What a good thing you are not distracted by having real paste to eat.
DeleteNow, just a brief sampling of your stupidity, lack of critical thinking skills, and complete total lack of any knowledge whatsoever as to what science is or how it works.
"The CDC actually had their budget triple from 2001 to 2010 and what did they do with the money."
Please, moron. Rush Limbaugh? That lops about 40 points off your IQ right there.
Money allocated to any agency has to be spent in specific ways; they don't have authority to spend it any way they like.
As for your moronic and simplistic listing of scientific investigations that clearly go right over your pointed, uneducated head, the vast majority of those sound very reasonable to any educated person.
You are clearly too ignorant to realize that every single scientific advance is built on hundreds of previous advances, many very small and seemingly meaningless.
No one walks into a lab and out of thin air with no previous background, suddenly comes up with a major discovery.
And while I'm sure you think you were very clever with your imbecilic joke about "keep your Ebola" (insurance), you just demonstrated your incredible stupidity, toddler-like mentality, and total inability to comprehend facts in an adult manner.
For the vast majority of Americans, this was the case. For the relatively small number who had sub-standard plans which the insurers chose not to update, yes, those people had to switch plans. To better, cheaper plans for most.
The infantile whining about the changes also ignored the fact that insurers regularly changed plans and that people have routinely been bounced out of plans and had to find others. On average, people on the individual market kept their plans for no more than a couple of years.
You are an idiot, as is your thug queen.
Well done Never, as usual. 7:11 is typical of the fools who listen to Limbaugh.
Delete7:11 & 7:58
DeleteNefer owns your dumbazz.
Oh and Dear Leader says we should've sent more money to Africa?
ReplyDeleteHow many BILLIONS of BILLIONS of dollars did W. Bush send there over his 8 years?
PATHETIC.
Wanna really piss them ALL off? There is a plant that is used to make the vaccine for Ebola...it takes 6 months...so if half the world grew one plant...sent it into a center to be processed?
ReplyDeleteWhat Ebloa?
Wanna hear something that will piss off politicians? Use AIDS/HIV meds on the Ebola patients...you will lose some but it is better to lose a few then lose them all...it's in HUGE stock in UN and around the world...is that all ya got Sarah?
