Alabama police paralyze 57 year old Indian man. His crime? Brown skin, no English, the usual.

Courtesy of AOL:

Madison police last week roughed up a 57-year-old Indian citizen who was walking on the sidewalk outside his son's home, leaving the older man temporarily paralyzed and hospitalized with fused vertebrae.

"He was just walking on the sidewalk as he does all the time," said his son, Chirag Patel, this morning. "They put him to the ground."

No crime had been committed. Madison Police on Monday issued a statement saying the department had suspended the officer and were investigating the use of force in this case. The police statement wished the man a "speedy recovery."

According to the man's son this is only his second trip to America and he only speaks Gujarati, and some Hindi.

The reason the officers stopped him is unclear, though their excuse for slamming him to the ground was that he was non-compliant. Sort of hard to comply when you have no idea what you are being asked to comply with.

I hate to to all up in Alabama's grill today, but damn!

The Madison police chief did the right thing though. The officer was fired and arrested. I live close to Madison and was surprised by the chief's fast action. I am beginning to hate the fact that I live in Alabama.

The police and/or the city needs to pay the man's medical bills, all of them, too.

Yes they do need to pay all of his bills. Madison is a town of snobs and bigots.

Welcome to America, land of exceptionalism, with liberty and justice for all...that is, if'n ALL speak English and don't dare walk on WHITES ONLY streets.

"He don't speak a lick-a English", then they keep talking to him in English. This type of thing is a disgrace to America. The cop who threw the man to the ground has been fired and now arrested.

When I think of all the times I've traveled to 3rd world and European countries where I don't speak the language, and people have helped me when I'm lost, or need help with the language, help with a map, etc., and they have been so generous and kind, it makes me extremely ashamed and embarrassed to hear about how we treat other visitors to our country.

I'm sick right now. My heart breaks for this man.

So true! The h8 level is so high out there, and others in the world are mad about how American press does not report this! Its not going well. And yes, well in other countries they would help a American, I doubt it now.
Especially if you walk around with a cross on your neck. They know you're a RW h8'r!
And yes stupid sarah and her ilk are to blame for this attack and Chapelhillshootings for ginning up the hate against everyone who isn't 'white"
      it is beyond sickening.
      This is 'merika now...

And, they wonder why Americans do not trust the racist cops we have throughout the nation. It's being proven time and time again of so many in their city forces! This cop needs to be put on trial and put in jail where he will assuredly have an uncomfortable life!

I was thinking that. The police should be sent the entire bill for his hospital stay and subsequent treatment. And then the son should sue his local police force. And the neighbor, probably a good southern faux-Christian, should have to scrub the floors of the son's house for a year - at least. Had the "stranger" been a white person I'm sure there would have been no call to the police.

Unbelievable. Police brutality at its worst. Give idiots a little authority and see what happens, yet the Palins can brawl away and never get arrested or charged with a thing.

Once again, fucking Alabama! Who the hell goes there unless they were born there and are too poor to leave? No one just "goes to Alabama" on a vacation, no it's a hellhole of terribleness that no one would pay money to go to.

It actually IS clear why they threw him to the ground: a neighbor called 911 to report a suspicious black man walking near his garage stating he was afraid to leave his family at home alone. RACISM is the reason for the season.

  12. Yeah, that "wish" for a speedy recovery is going to go a long way towards healing his back and paying his medical bills.

I hope the family sues the department's ass off.
