"I'm getting sick of tired of dinosaurs being forced on our children." Update!

"Aww, it's okay. They didn't mean it."
Courtesy of The Mirror:

Popular parenting website Mumsnet might just have witnessed its best post of all time - after a parent detailed their concerns about DINOSAURS.

The extinct mega beasts, widely accepted to have roamed the earth 230 million years ago, were listed as a worry for mothers alongside topics including baby names, weight loss and feeding toddlers.

Started by user, 'CADministry', the prehistoric problem thread is titled: "I'm getting sick of tired of dinosaurs being forced on our children."

It continues: "I'm really concerned about dinosaurs, and I think something needs to be done. The science behind them is pretty flimsy, and I for one do not want my children being taught lies.

"Did you know that nobody had even heard of dinosaurs before the 1800s, when they were invented by curio-hungry Victorians?"

The science is pretty flimsy?

They were "invented by curio-hungry Victorians?"

And these people are allowed to procreate?

But wait, there's more.

The eyebrow-raising post claims learning about dinosaurs - extinct for 65 million years according to experts - made a boy "bestially minded" and led to him biting three children.

It ads: "Nothing about dinosaurs is suitable for children, from their total lack of family values through to their non-existence from any serious scientific point of view."

Yes let's not teach our children about dinosaurs because they lack "family values" and might teach children to bite each other. Good thinking.

Actually there is some good evidence to suggest that at least some dinosaurs were quite good at parenting.

Not that it really makes any difference. After all we do not study dinosaurs to pick up parenting tips, we study them to learn more about our world and how creatures evolved.

Though it is stunningly clear that some creatures are far more evolved than others. These parents for example are obviously still several rungs down on the evolutionary ladder.

Update: It looks like the "sick and tired of dinosaurs" poster got  banned from Mumsnet.

If they were talking about Barney, I'd agree with them.

What gets the fundamentalists the worst though is that believing in dinosaurs means believing in an Earth that is older than 3,000 years old. It fucks with their belief system.

It looks that way but the author points to the facebook group: Christians Against Dinosaurs (which may just be part of the spoof).

Sounds like a troll post to me.
That given, there are plenty of stories from the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller, Alberta (a world-class dinosaur museum) of parents who were irate that the dinos on display were all dead - they had been expecting live dinosaurs. :/

Chickens are descended from dinosaurs; were they expecting a bunch of chickens running around?

The worst part is these fucking morons breed much more prolifically than do reasonably-minded non-religious people. Climate change is real. Resource deficiencies are becoming very real. These overbreeding morons are going to be on the short side of the resource stick here soon when food resources become truly scarce and there are too many of them to feed.

We smart people who believe in ZPG will be just fine, but come 2100 we'll have to be well armed to keep this army of religious overbreeding nutcases from trying to steal our resources! That's why I'm a liberal who's a firm believer in our second amendment rights to bear arms; we gonna need 'em to fight off the hungry hoard of overbreeders!

For fuck's sake, I can't figure out if this Mumsnet thing is real or not! We watched a show last night called "The Slap" and from the first moment the kid acted up flinging aroud the homeowners record collection I'm like "that kid needs a firm swat to his ass" then he got even worse in his behavior and when one of the party goers finally slapped him in the face I was like, "damn, I'd have done a lot worse than that".

I guess this whole show is bout how a bunch of pussy new age kind of parents react to a very normal thing like an adult slapping a really awful child in the face because he won't fucking listen and just kept causing problems and destroying stuff. Oh, also he was like 5 years old and being breastfed by his hippy mother, which wa so gross, and I"m a liberal and all this made me sick!

Anyone else watch this show and find it very strange as far as setting limits for children and child rearing is concerned?

This Mumset website has to be a parody of proper English parenting...which led me to talk about the "Slap" show which most of us here would have done the same thing the guy did with the absolute terrible hellchilde with poor parenting.

If some party guest ever slapped my child they would need a quick trip to the hospital after I got done with them.

Agreed. You don't slap my child, I don't slap yours. Besides, there are now so many autistic children - you never know if it is simply a brat or a brain damaged child. (1in 68 boys is autistic supposedly. Used to be 1 in 10,000 in the 1980s)

  7. Let me guess. She does not believe in dinosaurs for which there is a lot of evidence, yet believes in God for which there is little, if any, evidence...real evidence, not someone's written fantasies.

Would it be ok to teach children about dinosaurs if the fossil record showed that some of the better ones actually loved Jeebus?

I've never understood why people get pissed when facts are "forced" upon them. Having facts forced on you is a natural consequence of living in reality.

In the context of the dinosaur example, I really believe that claiming that it is being forced on them is actually a pretty apt description.

Imagine believing, and more importantly, really, really WANTING to believe, that the sky is purple. Every day you look up at that blue sky that you want to be purple and you feel as if the truth is constantly being forced upon you.

That's the funny thing about truth, it's all around you and it will continue to pervade you life whether you choose to accept it or not.

I love the truth! Even the harder, not-so-nice aspects of myself and society that I sometimes have to face. It's hard. It hurts, but it is ultimately for the best. How can you possibly make life better for yourself and others if you can't even live in reality?

Well, when I was young (1950 is) dinosaurs were first being featured in movies and I was simply terrified of them. So I did not go to movies with dinosaurs in them; my older sister went and I stayed home with my coloring books and paper dolls. Later I decided that the fascination with dinosaurs, more common among boys than girls, was a way of learning about and dealing with life's transiency. Not a bad idea at all, having to answer those questions about "why did all the dinosaurs die." Those of us who believe in science and in scientific evidence/proofs are okay with the FACT that dinosaurs lived so far in the past and I learned to tolerate having a stuffed dinosaur or two in a child's bed and tromping (ouch) on plastic ones lying on the floor when kids are playing. But I still prefer animals that are cute and furry. I'd rather have a dog than an iguana as a pet.

  18. I truly hope this was written by a troll, someone just pretending to be this oblivious to facts. Otherwise Id suggest its a result of home schooling and having only the scriptures as a source. I guess who ever this is never went to a museum.

  19. You don't have to force dinosaurs on children.

When it comes to dinosaurs, you have to beat children off with a stick. They LOVE them.

As for that rest of the right wing rant, it is job nuttery at it's finest.

No proof? BWA HA HA HA. Excuse me while I have to go change my panties.
