Donald Rumsfeld says that he never thought forcing democracy on Iraq was a good idea. Now he tells us.

Courtesy of MSNBC:

In an interview with British newspaper The Times, Rumsfeld said that efforts to oust Saddam Hussein and replace his tyrannical regime with democracy were unworkable, and that he had concerns about the plan from the beginning.

“I’m not one who thinks that our particular template of democracy is appropriate for other countries at every moment of their histories,” Rumsfeld told The Times. “The idea that we could fashion a democracy in Iraq seemed to me unrealistic. I was concerned about it when I first heard those words.”

WTF?

Rumsfeld has just as much blood on his hands as do Bush, Cheney, and Wolfowitz, among others. And there is nothing he can say now that will wash them clean.

Remember this is the guy who once said:

"There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know."

Sounds to me as if there were more knowns than unknowns, but this asshole didn't have the balls to say them out loud when it could have prevented the deaths of thousands of American soldiers and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Iraqis.

I wonder how many more rats will jump ship in the months to come?

Is he raking in the dough for speaking engagements, like W?? W gets over $100,000 per speech, but only to groups of rich peole, and closed to the public. No publicity. In other words, W and his co-horts are STILL getting even richer off the blood of innocent people from just about every nation who fought and died in that HELLHOLE. If the Iraquis wanted Saddam out, they would have done it themselves, once they had had enough. There is no end to this American involvement now. Colin Powell could have spoken out before the fiasco even started. He KNEW he was lying about WMD;s. Some hero he is.

Unknown unknowns is a good concept. It sounds strange but it makes sense. Unknown unknowns is only another word for potential surprises out of left field. If you know the existence of ISIS, for instance, but you don't know what they're going to do next, that is a known unknown. We are aware of the possibility of attack but the specifics are unknown. The possible existence of another, even worse organization, of which we are currently unaware and thus cannot monitor and analyze, would be an unknown unknown. Known unknowns are simply secrets. Unknown unknowns represent the infinite potentialities of which we are unaware.

You're right, but what people are laughing about is precisely the strange sounding almost-redundancy. Kind of like "depends on what the meaning of 'is' is."

It makes sense when you really think about it, given all the possible modes of existence, but it certainly doesn't sound that way on first hearing....

Interesting isn't it that the polls for our latest President Bush are going up? And, it's just prior to the big election in 2016! You known, just when Hillary Clinton is the front runner for POTUS and expected to win!?

Republicans are doing everything they can to get themselves back in good standing - even to the point of manipulating this current war (Rumsfeld) fucking war that has gone on for eons, cost horrid amounts of money and many Americans (plus others) have been killed and maimed!

Vote Democratic folks! If Republicans are elected, they'll have us in more wars and make our country more of a mess than it already is! (And, I don't blame President Obama!)

Cheney and Rumsfeld were in the most important positions of power on 9/11. Some of their closest colleagues were also in positions to affect the crimes.

Rumsfeld is one of the guys that should be beaten every day for the rest of his life.
He should be beaten, then get the medical attention he needs to survive and then tomorrow; repeat.
And every mother that lost a son or daughter in that useless, stupid war should get the chance to kick him right square in the balls.

In a newly-released tape of a 2006 neocon luncheon meeting featuring former War Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, attended by ex-military “message force multiplier” propaganda shills Lt. General Michael DeLong, David L. Grange, Donald W. Sheppard, James Marks, Rick Francona, Wayne Downing, Robert H. Scales and others, Rumsfeld declared that the American people lack “the maturity to recognize the seriousness of the ‘threats’” — and need another 9/11.

Where would Sarah Palin be if not for 9/11? How can anyone forget her brave son, that was so moved when America was attacked that he immediately joined the military to fight in Iraq, because Saddam Hussein. Not only was Sarah Commander in Chief, but her son had a media blast of 9/11,
9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11 and many more. Track was so patriotic that he did everything 9/11 and what news outlet would not report that 9/11 news and young boys to men sign up to fight Saddam?

To this day 9/11 is one of the most important and meaningful events and recruiting tools to demonstrate who are the patriotic in America.

Anyone else should leave the country.

Is it any wonder that Track would be so close to Dakota Meyer and Sarah would welcome him into their family of 9/11 aficiados? Not to leave out Bristol, she did her best to honor her combat brother and his 9/11 cred, she just didn't join the military. It wasn't until she met Dakota that she could build up her 9/11 cred a little more and increase her run for office and opportumity to have her own PAC.

Dakota Meyer, like Track Palin, was another person we would have never heard of if not for 9/11.

To think we would all be saying "Who is Sarah Palin?" if not for 9/11.

  15. And he blames Obama for his mistake. I have no idea how he could manage to stretch credulity that far but there it is. Apparently Obama has replaced Clinton as the blame default for the Republican party.

This is just spin to try and deflect his responsibility. I guess he figures enough time has passed people won't remember what really transpired. Meanwhile Bush and Cheney will be blaming Rumsfeld.

I'm surprised they didn't all blame Colin Powell. But they have a much juicier black man to blame; Obama. And Colin Powell is a Republican (although god knows why) and Obama is a Democrat.

Republican rule: When it doubt always blame the Democrat. If you can also blame a black man, twofer!

Rumsfeld is trying to spin and deflect. He is a war criminal. He, Bush, Cheney, Rice, Ashcroft, all conspired to trick the Nation into a war under false pretenses. They destroyed the Geneva Convention Treatment of Prisoners of War. They crashed our economy and are fully to blame for the needless death and murder of thousands of people. They are culpable and they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. And though they will never be, we can NEVER let the rest of the world forget that we KNOW exactly what kind of people they are.

Time for the world court to try and convict the war criminals who took the US into a war of aggression in Iraq. One with NO reasons other than to make the criminals uber rich. Take their money and lock them up at Gitmo for the rest of their stinking lives.

I cant hardly wait till this type and generation is dust in the wind. BECAUSE folks like him, cheny and quite a few more have completely sold out America way back in the 50's. Whether that generation of voters knew or did not know? Our generations have suffered and will continue to suffer until they are no longer connected and active. The agenda to destroy America began in the 50's...and now they are ALL facing their demons... evil...greed....molesters.....takers

I threw up a little when I saw this on TV. They played clips of the liar saying that a democracy similar to ours would grow in the middle east, once they see how well it works in Iraq. But, there are unknown unknowns, known knowns, and known unknowns in the fog of war, also too, remember, each of those soldiers raised their hands and volunteered to go into battle to bring Democracy. You know that gag reflex you get when cleaning up vomit? Yeah, I feel that same sensation when I see this pos liar defend the indefensible.

In a way, I'm glad they're coming out of the woodwork. Jebbies about to get a hundred million dollars for his campaign, these slugs crawling out from under the rocks refreshes the public's memory and the pain of eight years of damage, war, death, sunken economy, stock market crash, etc. all put into motion by Bush/Cheyney and the Warhawks. Good luck Jebbie, Perhaps it's time to change your last name to something different. A hundred million bucks ain't gonna cut it.

like others, I call BULLSHIT. Rumsfeld is more responsible for the Iraq war than anybody, except Dick Cheney. When I think back to watching Rummy's supercilious attitude during his press conferences (like the quote referenced above about known knowns, etc.) I get more than a little sick. That trinity of evil completely destroyed our reputation of taking the high road. That history is the behavior that allowed us to claim "Excpetionalism." People who claim now that America is "exceptional" are living in a time that has been eradicated, like the extinct dinosaurs.
