Courtesy of Think Progress:
John Dickerson asked Carson about the “human side” of addiction on Face the Nation Sunday after mentioning that 25 percent of New Hampshire voters said drug abuse was the most serious problem in New Hampshire, according to a WMUR poll.
Carson answered that a lack of values and principles were responsible for serious drug abuse:
"There are all kinds of addictions and addictions occur in people who are vulnerable who are lacking something in their lives, so we really have to start asking ourselves what have we taken outside of our lives in America? What are some of those values and principles that allowed us to ascend the ladder of success so rapidly to the pinnacle of the world and the highest pinnacle anyone else had ever reached, and why are we throwing away all of our values and principles for the sake of political correctness?"
Did you hear the journalist ask Carson for his opinion "As a doctor?" And yet Carson's response is completely lacking any medical or scientific foundation.
Instead he answers the question as a minister or priest might answer it, framed as if all the ills of society are due to a lack of Jesus in our lives.
At this point I think it is fair to demand to see Carson's medical license and diploma from the University of Michigan.
After all nothing this guy says seems to be true, and his responses to questions seem to be entirely non-scientific or medically informed.
To be fair Chris Christie, who has never claimed to have a background in psychology or medicine, provided a far more substantive and empathetic response to the question of addiction in this country.
Let's face when your bedside manner is worse than Chris Christie's that raises some serious questions about your medical background.
As Dubya was jammed down our throat in 2000, one has to wonder why Carson is a supposed front runner.
ReplyDeleteI think in part, as Murdock said, he would be the first black president. If he only makes it for part of the campaign season it gives the GOOPS credibility as not racist.

Speaking the the French Family, Nancy was surprised that the Broadway musical "Hamilton" was patriotic. After all, it was written by a Puerto Rican, and its cast is multi-racial. It's also been playing on Broadway for a while, long enough for President Obama and his family to have seen it. Was Nancy surprised because the show is mostly hip hop and rap? It had minorities playing the parts of our white founding fathers? Or did Nancy think that "liberals" wouldn't tell the story of Hamilton accurately?
DeleteWe all know, since McCain, that the GOP does not vet anyone. Unless, they do not want them and need to find a way to get rid of them. GOP has zero respect for high office or they would vet and do a damn good job.
DeleteSo this Palin character, named French, thinks the media is destroying anyone that media vets?
The French Family, Sarah and Bristol all know Puerto Rico has nothing to do with the USA. In their alternative universe that is.

Jesus doesn't have anything to do with someone sitting in their doctor's office - who they also have faith in - and being prescribed pain killers then getting hooked on the pills. From my view point, doctors are the biggest drug pushers in the country. Maybe the good doctors should put patients before profits. A doctor in California was recently convicted of murder because 3 of her patients overdosed and died. That was good news.
ReplyDeleteA nationwide database monitoring patients' prescriptions and the doctors who prescribe them would be 100 times more effective than prayer. Jesus appears to be too busy when the faithful pray for rain to end droughts. I don't think Jesus will fix the drug problems either.
I am 10:02. I meant it was good news that the doctor was convicted of murder. Certtainly didn't mean it was good news that her patients overdosed and died.

DeleteIt should be noted that the linked article concludes as follows:
Despite the MRI malpractice case, though, most experts agree that Carson had a very small amount of blemishes for a job that is as hard as it gets.
“It doesn’t seem outrageous to me, to be honest with you,” Karten said. “This is a very risky area that you’re operating in, the brain. There’s a lot of questions on what a patient is told. But that doesn’t mean it’s malpractice. You have to do something or deviate from the standard of care. I don’t think this is a tremendous amount of malpractice over the years he’s been practicing.”

"What are some of those values and principles that allowed us to ascend the ladder of success so rapidly to the pinnacle of the world and the highest pinnacle anyone else had ever reached".......
ReplyDeleteClearly Carson doesn't understand the gospel. His views are contradictory to what the NT teaches. He thinks that 'values' bring people like him to rapidly ASCEND the adder of success to the pinnacle the world. That's not what Jesus taught. He taught that the Kingdom of God was not of this world.
Satan tried to tempt Jesus in the wilderness, offering him the world and all the riches of the world if Jesus would bow to Satan. Clearly Jesus did not. He gave Himself up so people in the world would follow a world of eternal life through Him, rather than be disillusioned by the worldly gain and affluence and power that one can't take with them in the next life.
Carson seems to be preaching dominion theology and he also has a huge ego problem, considering that he thinks the winking Jesus in the portrait is very proud of him.

ReplyDeleteTed Cruz: An Atheist 'Isn't Fit To Be' President
Presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Friday that he believes anyone who wants to be president must fear God and pray daily.
Speaking at the National Religious Liberties Conference in Iowa, Cruz joined other GOP presidential candidates for a discussion about the persecution of Christians in the U.S. and around the world. After some very extreme, very weird comments about homosexuality, right-wing pastor Kevin Swanson introduced Cruz to the stage to ask him how important it was for candidates to submit to Jesus Christ as "the king of the President of the United States."
"Any president who doesn't begin every day on his knees isn't fit to be commander-in-chief of this country," responded Cruz.

Presidential candidate and Holocaust comic Ben Carson held a gonzo press conference on Friday to answer questions about his alleged full scholarship to West Point (and perhaps get people to believe he might actually stab a fool), and while most of the focus on that presser has been on Carson’s uncharacteristic anger, there was something else that piqued my interest. Aside from his newly-disclaimed description of meeting General William Westmoreland, Carson weirdly foreshadowed the media’s next quest for dirt on him (emphasis mine):
Ben Carson says he'll probably be accused of… by tommyxtopher
“There’s gotta be some scandal, there’s gotta be some nurse he’s having an affair with, there’s gotta be something. They are getting desperate. So, next week, it’ll be my kindergarten teacher who said I peed in my pants.”
The “peed in my pants” line was good for a laugh, but it was that nurse line that caught my attention because I thought to myself that if this had been any other candidate, I’d have thought it sounded like getting out ahead of something. Picture Bill Clinton saying at a press conference “Next thing you know, they’ll be saying I’m getting blown by an intern in the Oval Office, HAHAHA!”
But say what you will about Ben Carson, it’s extremely difficult to picture him as an unrepentant snatchhound, maybe even more so than a knife-fighting berserker with hammers for hands.
As it happens, though, I was also researching videos for my epic slideshow of weird Ben Carson pronouncements, and I ran across a clip that’s on point with this issue. At a commencement speech in 2003, Carson told the crowd that he had been sued for paternity by a Florida woman who claimed to have given birth to his love child:

http://www.mediaite.com/online/why-has-ben-carson-repeatedly-claimed-he-was-sued-for-paternity-years-ago/
I think that Carson's lies are all related to his idea of 'testimony'. His stories have a before (problems), how (an event causing his conversion) and since (what a better person he is now). There must be a strong sense of rage behind the soft manner and quiet voice. One day the rage will break free; hope a camera is nearby when it does.

In his 1990 autobiography Gifted Hands, Carson describes how he briefly attended fourth grade at a small private church school when his mother, Sonya, moved him and his older brother, Curtis, to live with relatives in Boston after the Carsons’ father moved out. His mother thought the boys would get a better education there than at the public schools. She was wrong.

Yes, this guy is a major right winger who at one time was hugely a Palin fan, later to jump ship, but with that in mind, I read his article and this is what stood out for me...
ReplyDelete...What will happen from here? More stories of Carson’s exaggerations will trickle out and his fans, aided by the conservative media telling them that this is all the left’s attempt to destroy a dangerous conservative black man, will ignore reality until there is no other choice. This “Brian Williams Virus” will not kill Carson’s campaign immediately and it may never destroy it completely. But he is never going to president and it is nearly impossible to see how he gets the Republican nomination.
The only question left is whether he hangs around long enough to help another conservative media favorite who has no business being the nominee, Donald Trump, storm to victory at the GOP convention, before handing the presidency to Hillary Clinton.
