A Rockdale County teacher is on administrative leave after he was caught on camera during class threatening to “put a bullet” in a student’s head.
The incident happened two weeks ago at Rockdale Career Academy, but the student’s mother, April Carr, told Channel 2 Action News she was not notified by the principal until last week.
“I think it’s a terroristic threat on my son’s life,” she told Channel 2, “that I definitely don’t take lightly.”
Carr said her son and other students were laughing while physics teacher Paul Hagan was at the board. That’s when Hagan made the threats.
Carr posted video of the threat online and Hagan can be heard clearly saying: “You screw with me you’re going to be in big ass trouble. Don’t smile at me, man. That’s how people like you get shot. I got a bet. I bet by the time you’re 21 somebody’s going to put a bullet in your head. OK. And it might be me the one who does it.”
You know when my daughter's mother moved her to Georgia I was upset that she home schooled her instead of sending her to public school.
But after seeing this video I am wondering if that might not be the best choice considering some of the teachers they employ in Georgia.
The mother wants this man fired, and I think that is certainly the appropriate response to something like this.
“Zero tolerance” is only good for students? There would be no paid leave; it’s all right there on video. OUT with teaching credentials revoked.
ReplyDeleteWhat did the kid do to provoke it?
Deletesmile=BULLit
Deletekids are terrible-they smell weakness and dig it out. if you can't stand kids find another job.
DeleteThe rampant stupidity stupifies me. Not all of us are that oblivious, although news out of Georgia does often indicate just that.

Couldn't the student bring charges against the teacher for threatening bodily harm?

ReplyDeleteThis is a great article debunking false memes about mass shooters.
In all walks of life people are at their limits. There is no excuse for the situation escalating to this point. But in defense of bad decisions lately, many children do not receive disciple, morals or manners at home. And this illegitimate nasty liar representing americans in the highest office today is NO example. Some people and their children have no respect for those attempting to teach them.
ReplyDeleteIs it at all possible that the liddle kiddie darlings set this teacher up to video it? After all it is the new norm now adays.
ReplyDeleteAssuredly.
DeleteAnd probably illegal. In my state it is against state law state ed code and district ed code. But rules don't apply to these privileged little assholes. All they have to do is whine how the teacher is so unfair, he hates them, he is prejudiced against them, he does it to "everyone", blah blah blah. We live in an age when the student's word is believed and the teacher is always assumed to be lying. Administrators take the parents and students side against the teacher. 2 against1 and you always lose.
I saw a teacher almost get fired and put in prison for a lie a girl told because she didn't get the lead in the school musical she thought she deserved. Right before it went to court, her best friend chickened out and told the truth. Otherwise he would have gone to prison for molestation or statutory rape or something. Don't remember the charges. All because this little entitled bitch lied as payback for not getting the starring role she though she deserved.
At another school a teacher was punched in the face, breaking his glasses and requiring stitches, the kid was suspended for three days, then right back in the classroom.
Get a few of these little darlings in the same room, ones that have gone through each grade level together and have their act down pat, and it's like a tag team sport of disrupt the class. Nothing gets done. Add no support from the administration, a principal that is breathing down your back for higher test scores and it's a wonder anyone is going into the teacher profession. Oh, that's right. They're NOT. Numbers way down. As the senior teachers retire rather than put up with this crap and the new teachers leave in the first few years to find better jobs with better working conditions, soon all that will be left are incompetents and "Teach for America".
It's a Republican wet dream.

Mom of a teenager here. Sorry my sympathies are with the teacher. I think he said the wrong thing in a heated moment. It wasn’t a real threat. He should apologize to the student and family, but the student needs to apologize to the teacher and the rest of the class. Let this be a teaching moment for everybody.
ReplyDeleteAre you fucking serious?
DeleteSo just who is supposed to be the adult in the room?
Or better put: Who is paid to be the adult in the room?
Fire the unqualified twit.
I rest my case.
Need more facts about the situation and of both teacher and student. How old was the kid? Is he a trouble maker? Who did the video? How long has the teacher been a teacher? What led up to the video? It sounded like the teacher was trying to make a point about behavior and it twisted on him.
DeleteIt was more than that student. The class was disruptive and laughing. All you need is one asshole leader and an entire group becomes defiant and disrespectful. They are probably thrilled their behavior got this guy fired.
DeleteTeachers are human too. You push them far enough, often enough and eventually they’re going to break.
I suspect this guy wasn’t getting any support from the administration towards classroom discipline and management. Probably left on his own to fix a widespread disciplinary problem.
Yeah, he went too far. But I know exactly the kind of asshole spoiled brat he was dealing with. A product of lax discpline at home no doubt. Apples don’t fall far from trees. Show me a bully and I’ll point to the parents.
There is absolutely no excuse in these times of mass shootings and gun violence for a teacher to lose it like that and say what he did. Yes, kids can push teachers over the edge but they are the adults,in the room and hav to act accordingly or get out of rpteaching. He sounds like a fist class jerk. Not cool at all!
Delete"Rockdale Career Academy"? Charter school? Unqualified staff=Betsey DeVos' fine example of what American education can offer?
ReplyDelete...and what is it with the majority of comments above? There is NO excuse for the teacher's behavior. NONE.
I'd be curious as to whether the teacher has a concealed carry permit. Or not.
Wild Tortoise
This teacher reminds me of the crazy nuns that I had in grade school.
ReplyDeleteya. the nuns were the worst. wait-the priests were the worst. how many men joined the church just to get access to young kids?
Deletethis guy is not fit to teach our children. however, i will point out that teachers are underpayed and some mentally ill people will work for small town schools because no one else wants to work there. fire him and make sure his next job is shoveling pig shit somewhere.
