A Nevada father shot and killed his 14-year-old son because he couldn’t accept his son's sexual orientation, according to the son's former foster mom.
On Thursday afternoon, 53-year-old Wendell Melton shot his son, Giovanni Melton, in the apartment where Giovanni lived alone.
According to Sonja Jones, Giovanni’s former foster mom, Wendell caught Giovanni with his boyfriend before he pulled out a gun.According to the Henderson Police Department, Giovanni was initially transported to St. Rose Dominican Hospital—Siena Campus in critical condition.
“As a result of their investigation, Henderson Police detectives determined that Melton discharged a firearm that fatally struck his son,” the police department said in a statement on Facebook. He was arrested at the scene on felony charges of open murder, child abuse, firearms possession and other various charges, and was booked into the Henderson Detention Center.
"Giovanni was abused physically and mentally and spiritually for many, many years," Jones told News 3 Las Vegas.
Is it any wonder that so many gay teens are still so afraid to tell the world who they are?

ReplyDeleteHow many foster children die either because they were returned to an abusive situation or their very foster homes are an abusive situation that is never monitored?
We do a piss poor job of protecting our women from domestic abuse too. Women are murdered because the police don't believe them or they think a restraining order will stop an abusive partner with a gun, or the women simply stay because they can't find a shelter that will take their dog/cat/bird or can't leave/bring the kids or whatever.
How about we just take all of the freakin' guns and piss on the Second Amendment? I don't need a gun. I have the military to protect my country and the national guard, sheriffs department, highway patrol and police to handle domestic issues. Why can't we leave firearms to the PROFESSIONALS? We allow the professionals to fight our fires, teach our children, clean our teeth and take out our appendix, right? What the fuck is wrong with leaving guns to the professionals?
the gun nuts have very small penis. they have to prove they are a MeN. most are children who never grew up-like our "beloved" president. seriously, the guns seen to fill some normal just don't get. my dad had hunting rifles and was very carefull with them. kept them locked up and away from us. how many babies have died because mom or dad left their handgun where a young child could find them? and loaded? that isn't right. they seem to love the damn gun more than their kids.

we need to learn to love and accept every one as they are. my sister's son is gay. no one in the family is happy with that but i told him to be who is, and be happy. my sister is better now. she babysits her sons baby dogs now. some time it takes a while. you can't tell any one not to be gay.

"...where Giovanni lived alone." That's heartbreaking. A 14-year old should not have to live alone to be who they are. That he died at the hands of someone who was supposed to love and protect him is horrific.
