Even amid allegations of spousal abuse Rob Porter was in line for a promotion up until he abruptly resigned.

Courtesy of CNN:

Rob Porter was involved in serious discussions to be promoted when he abruptly resigned from the White House last week amid allegations that he abused his two ex-wives, multiple sources familiar with the matter tell CNN.

His anticipated elevation further highlights how top White House officials were willing to overlook indications from the FBI that there were potential abuse allegations in his background in exchange for professional competence in a tumultuous West Wing.

Porter had been actively lobbying to take on new policy portfolios outside the traditional scope of the staff secretary, one person familiar with the matter said, which included speechwriting duties and a role in planning policy rollouts. Neither of those tasks is traditionally carried out by the staff secretary.

He was also being considered for the deputy chief of staff position, another source familiar with the situation said. CNN reported Friday that Jim Carroll, who served as the deputy chief of staff for less than three months, was stepping down to helm the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Several White House officials, including chief of staff John Kelly, were receptive to promoting Porter. Kelly had told associates that Porter was one of the few competent professionals on his staff and wanted to ensure that he was being used to his full potential. CNN has reported that Kelly was aware for months of the potential that Porter's ex-wives could present damaging information on him.

Kelly "definitely wanted to expand his role," a source familiar tells CNN.

Like I said it is likely a prerequisite for a job in this White House to be a predator.

And if you actually beat your wife, well hell that's a promotion!

Colorado roofing company giving away AR-15's with each new roof.

Yes this image is on the home page of Weatherproof Roofing. NO I am not kidding.
Courtesy of KRDO:

A roofing company in Castle Rock is offering a unique incentive to go through them to get your roof fixed.

WeatherProof Roofing has begun a “Get a Roof, Get a Gun” promotion.

Owner James Webb is giving out AR 15s to customers who choose services from WeatherProof Roofing.

"We are the only roofing company in the country that is offering this. We figured we’d take a stand on what we believe," said Webb.

You know somehow celebrating having a new roof by receiving a gift which might require replacing it again seems a little odd to me.

I mean giving somebody an assault weapon is not like giving away a free toaster or coupons for a carwash to promote your company.

What happens if one of these customers gets drunk and starts shooting their promotional gift at cars driving by on the street, or finally gets fed up with the wife and decides that they know just the thing to finally shut her up?

Is the company legally at fault in a case like that?

Well of course not. This is America, where everybody deserves a chicken in every pot, an AR-15 in every gun rack, and a bullet in every intruder, barking dog, or nagging spouse.

Finally, some Trump brand merchandise that makes sense.

Courtesy of Dangerous Minds:

We already have the “Dump with Donald Trump” toilet paper. So naturally, the next inevitable crap-related Trump product is the the Poop Head Donald Trump Dog Bags. I can’t think of a more fitting tribute to the shitty Republican presidential nominee.

Each roll comes with 15 bags featuring Donald Trump’s head with a steaming hot turd on top. The bag rolls are $4.99 each.

Yeah Trump University never made sense to me, Trump steaks would probably give me food poisoning, and Trump airlines barely even got off the ground.

But Donald Trump dog shit bags?

Now there is some merchandise worthy of the Trump name.

While promoting his new show "Off the Grid" Jesse Ventura labels "American Sniper" Chris Kyle a liar, and pokes Sarah Palin with a sharp wit.

Courtesy of the Examiner:

To open his show on Feb. 3, Ventura simply asks, "What do you get when you combine delusion, performance art, and a desperate need to remain relevant?" The former governor gives a quick response, "Sarah "the quitter" Palin, of course."

The beef between Ventura and Palin started when Palin attacked Ventura over his recent lawsuit against the estate of Chris Kyle. Claiming in his book to have knocked Ventura out, the former Minnesota governor sued Kyle and the book company for slander and defamation. After the jury found that there was not enough credible evidence to back Kyle's claims, Ventura cleared his name and was awarded $1.8 million. Following the jury's decision, Palin defended Kyle, who she says is a hero, and criticized Ventura, calling him a "jacka**" for suing a "military widow and her fatherless children."

When asked if he thought Kyle was a hero, Ventura didn't hold back. "My definition of a hero; a hero has to have honor. Unfortunately if you are a liar, you can't have honor," Ventura said.

"I'll be blunt. Chris Kyle is a liar and I proved it in court. And so there for, he can't have honor, so it disqualifies him from being a hero."

"Sarah Palin hinted at a 2016 run, trashed Michael Moore, and took aim at Hilary Clinton," Ventura points out, but questions what her motives really are. The former pro wrestler and actor noted that if Palin was to run and win the presidency in 2016, it would be important who her vice president was. Ventura brought up that Palin only served a half a term as governor of Alaska, after media scrutiny took a toll on her and her family.

I am not always a fan of Ventura's but I have to say that he is certainly in the catbird seat these days.

With all of the controversy surrounding Chris Kyle Ventura is the one person who can say that he proved that the man was a liar in a court of law.

And as for Palin well by taking on Ventura she was clearly punching above her weight class again.

And that line about the importance of Palin's running mate if she were to run for President?

That line is gold.

With the Affordable Care website up and running the pro-Obamacare forces go on the offense.

Courtesy of Bloomberg:

Next week, a number of celebrities will join in an effort organized by an independent group to boost enrollment on the online exchanges, said a person familiar with the plan, who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly about it. An advertising blitz will begin in January after the holiday season has ended, said the person.

Scarlett Johansson, Aisha Tyler, and Gabrielle Union have recorded phone messages that Planned Parenthood is using to promote enrollment. Actresses Lena Dunham of “Girls” and Elizabeth Banks of “Hunger Games” posted Twitter messages to promote a Planned Parenthood Internet town hall this week on Obamacare.

In addition, Planned Parenthood, which provides health services to women, will “ramp up significantly” its efforts to promote enrollment in January, deploying hundreds of staff members with a goal of contacting a half-million people in Texas, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, said Rachel Fleischer, spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Enroll America, an advocacy group with close ties to the White House, plans more than a thousand events across the country to promote coverage during the first three weeks of December, a 40 percent increase from the same period in November, said Justin Nisly, a spokesman.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the campaign arm of House Democrats, sent statements to the hometown news media of 60 Republican lawmakers who have previously voted to repeal Obamacare, criticizing them for benefits that would be eliminated.

The Republicans response to this, now that the website no longer affords offers them an example to use for their attack, is to cherry pick news of people having to pay higher premiums for coverage that is now more comprehensive than their old coverage, or which reflects the fact that the governors of their state did not work with the administration to expand Medicaid or put state sponsored health care exchanges in place.

That sort of makes the tactic of sending statements to the local press in those states reminding them that their conservative politicians may be responsible for why the program is not working in their community, and that they also voted to strip their constituents of the benefits that ARE working, kind of brilliant.

And let me just say, as a red blooded male, that NOTHING the Republicans can come up with is going to stand a chance against a message on my phone from Scarlett Johansson telling me that enrolling IS a good idea.
