The Marine Corps is pressing to remove its forces from Iraq and to send marines instead to Afghanistan, to take over the leading role in combat there, according to senior military and Pentagon officials.
The idea by the Marine Corps commandant would effectively leave the Iraq war in the hands of the Army while giving the Marines a prominent new role in Afghanistan, under overall NATO command.
"We would like to leave this debacle and go to fight a conflict we actually believe in Sir!"
I just have to imagine that the other military branches are sitting around scratching their heads and trying to figure out a good reason for THEM to get the hell out of Dodge as well.
Sounds like they would simply rather be under NATO's command than Bush's.
ReplyDeleteI wish they WERE talking about getting out of Dodge, but they're only offering to exchange their 26K marines in iraq for the 25K army in afghan. Looks like the USAF is not behind the idea. But, maybe it is a first step. Maybe the new Joint Chief and Marine Commandant are men of principle. Maybe reason will prevail. I hope!
ReplyDeleteI still think it is very interesting..almost like a Coup...almost...
