At an Alaska Municipal League (AML) meeting in Juneau last Thursday, Young was asked what should be done to prevent school shootings.
“What can municipalities do?
What can the federal government do to stop the massacre of children in our schools?” asked Dimitri Shein, a Democratic candidate running for Young’s seat.
Young responded by arguing that teachers should be armed. He then invoked the Holocaust to argue that making sure everyone had guns was the best solution.
“How many millions of people were shot and killed because they were unarmed? Fifty million in Russia, because their citizens weren’t armed,” Young said.
“How many Jews were put into the ovens because they were unarmed?”The comment is anti-Semitic, outrageous, and incredibly stupid, but just in case you need a debunking: That is not why or how the Holocaust happened.
Holy shit is this a stupid argument.
This fantasy that armed individuals can overcome a country's military has been disproved time and time again.
You only have to look to the resistance fighters in Afghanistan and Iraq to realize that.
I sometimes get criticized for picking on Texas, and other states in the South.
I ridicule states like Texas, Florida, Georgia, and others because they are fucked up and deserving of ridicule.
But that in no way means that I consider Alaska any less fucked up, or any less deserving of ridicule.
And until we finally get rid of this dinosaur and replace him with somebody who actually wants to move our state forward, we deserve every bit of ridicule directed our way.
Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

In Illinois the Republicans will have an actual holocaust denier running for a state congressional seat.
![]() |
| Arthur Jones in the front here wearing his MAGA hat in support of Donald Trump. |
Arthur Jones — an outspoken Holocaust denier, activist anti-Semite and white supremacist — is poised to become the Republican nominee for an Illinois congressional seat representing parts of Chicago and nearby suburbs.
“Well first of all, I’m running for Congress not the chancellor of Germany. All right. To me the Holocaust is what I said it is: It’s an international extortion racket,” Jones told the Chicago Sun-Times.
Indeed, Jones’ website for his latest congressional run includes a section titled “The ‘Holocaust Racket’” where he calls the genocide carried out by the German Nazi regime and collaborators in other nations “the biggest blackest lie in history.”
Jones is running unopposed in the primary, which means he will certainly be the nominee.
But let's face it, even if he did have an opponent he could still emerge victorious.
After all this IS the age of Donald Trump, where white supremacists no longer have to hide in the shadows.

Well this certainly hits the nail on the head a little too squarely.
I swear at any minute I expect the people standing behind Trump during those executive signings to clap their heels together and thrust their arms out straight, with the palms facing down.In the US Holocaust Museum. -SR pic.twitter.com/OJTPI7PhZj

Donald Trump Jr. compares the media to the Nazis during the Holocaust. Gee, how reasonable of him.
Courtesy of CBS News:
Donald Trump Jr. on Wednesday suggested the media has helped Hillary Clinton by letting her “slide” on “every lie” and said that if Republicans did the same, the media would be “warming up the gas chamber” for them.
“The media has been her number one surrogate in this,” he said in an interview on 1210 WPHT radio in Philadelphia with host Chris Stigall. “Without the media, this wouldn’t even be a contest, but the media has built her up. They’ve let her slide on every in-discrepancy, on every lie, on every DNC game trying to get Bernie Sanders out of this thing. If Republicans were doing that, they’d be warming up the gas chamber right now.”
This is actually blowing up all over social media right now, but I really don't understand why.
After all what do we expect from a guy raised by a man who sleeps with a copy of Adolph Hitler's speeches by his bed?
And by the way the accusation that the media has let Clinton "slide" or has "built her up" is laugh out loud funny.
In truth it is the Doanld who has benefited the most from favorable media coverage, and Hillary who has been subjected to the Spanish Inquisition over every perceived misstep.
Hey, there are even facts to back that up.
There I go again, using facts.
When will I ever learn that nobody cares about those anymore?

Mark Levin, Sarah Palin's favorite person since the Gipper kicked the bucket, claims that President Obama is the greatest threat to the Jews since the 1930's. Update!
Courtesy of TPM:
"Barack Obama, as a result of this and the other things he’s doing, including arming up the Islamonazis in Tehran, is the greatest threat the Jews face — not in this country but in Israel — since the 1930s," he said on "The Mark Levin Show."
Levin said that Obama's relationship with Israel and his decision to negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran threaten Israeli Jews.
"He’s the greatest threat they face since the 1930s. And I say that because he is doing more now to degrade Israel’s military and defense posture, its intelligence information. He’s doing more now to arm Israel’s enemy than anybody," he said. "He is the greatest threat that that nation faces. And by the way, he’s a great threat to our nation too, as far as I’m concerned."
Not to nitpick the wisdom of the "Great One" here but between the 1930's and now wasn't there something called the Holocaust?
I mean that didn't start until 1941, and that seems substantially more detrimental to the Jewish people than anything that Barack Obama could possibly even dream up.
But hey what do I know? I mean I don't have a radio show that is listened to by the wingnuttiest of the wingnuts, nor am I beloved by so rational a person as Sarah Palin.
And let me say how often I thank my lucky stars for that!
Update for clarification: To those who sent me an e-mail, yes I am aware that Hitler came into power in the early 1930's and that he started persecuting the Jews pretty much right away.
I guess my point was that things became even more deadly for the Jewish people when the Holocaust, or Shoah, was in full swing from 1941 to 1945. It was at this time that the wholesale slaughter of the Jewish people commenced.
Of course the point of Levin's remarks was to make a comparison between President Obama and Adolph Hitler. As if the attempts to negotiate a deal with Iran to not build nuclear weapons instead of attacking them and further destabilizing the region, are on par with the actions of one of the most reviled men in human history.
To sum up Mark Levin is a right wing provocateur who will say essentially anything to stoke the hatred of his lunatic listeners for our President, and no rational person should pay him any attention if it were not for the fact that ignoring these anarchists has proven detrimental to our country in the past.

Republican State Senator compares being a Christian in America to being a Jewish person in Nazi Germany. Wow!
Courtesy of the Dallas News:
A recently elected West Texas state senator on Tuesday compared what he called a “spiritual battle” against religion in the United States to the Holocaust.
Charles Perry made the comparison after being sworn in on Tuesday following his victory earlier this month in a special election to replace a retiring state senator, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported.
In his inaugural speech, Perry said a recent trip to a concentration camp in Germany made him draw a comparison between what he believes are efforts by the government to pass laws against religion and the killing of Jews during the Holocaust.
“There were 10,000 people that were paraded into a medical office [at the concentration camp in Germany] under the guise of a physical. As they stood with their back against the wall, they were executed with a bullet through the throat. Before they left, 10,000 people met their fate that way,” Perry said.
“Is it not the same than when our government continues to perpetuate laws that lead citizens away from God?"
I would like to answer that last question for State Senator Perry.
Um no, it is NOT the same.
It is not only not the same but it quite literally could NOT be any different.
This is a country where a full 83% of the people self identify as Christians. They overwhelmingly dominate local, state, and federal government, and many of our laws reflect the influence of Christianity and the Bible on this nation.
So no there is NOTHING similar about Christians in America, and the Jews who suffered at the hands of the Nazis in Germany before and during World War 2.
Now if he wants to compare the Nazis to the Fundamentalist Christians in this country, well that is another conversation altogether.

God on Trial: The Verdict.
I caught this for the first time the other day after it popped up on one of the sites I visit frequently.
I had never seen this movie entitled "God on Trial" but I found this portion to be incredibly riveting.
Here is how IMBD describes the film:
Awaiting their inevitable deaths at one of the worst concentration camps, a group of Jews make a rabbinical court to decide whether G-d has went against the holy covenant and if He is the one guilty for their suffering.
You know you almost HAVE to believe that conversations like this took place in concentration camps all over the place during World War 2. In fact I believe that they are happening with increasing frequency in the years since that terrible war, and not only among the Jewish population.
I am interested in your feedback, because as an Atheist all I could think was that the questions posed simply had no reasonable nor logical answers, and either pointed to the non-existence of God or to the existence of a terrible God who relishes the act of human genocide and revels in our suffering.

Evangelical minister, "Atheism has never healed a disease."
Courtesy of the Friendly Atheist:
The Bible says: “The fool hath said in his heart ‘There is no God’.” Atheists say there is no God. Let me tell you that atheism has never painted a masterpiece. Atheism has never dispelled fear. Atheism has never healed a disease; faith in God has, but not atheism. Atheism has never given anyone peace of mind. Atheism has never dried a tear. Atheism has never given an intellectual answer to the creation. Atheism is bankrupt and empty; it’s brain dead.
If I may, let's take these one by one shall we?
"Atheism has never painted a masterpiece." Well neither belief nor the lack of belief create any actual art, however if the idea is that Atheists cannot create art, well that is simply ridiculous. In fact there are many who believe that Leonardo Da Vinci himself was an Atheist or at least an agnostic.
"Atheism has never dispelled fear." Wrong. It has dispelled the fear of hell and eternal suffering.
"Atheism has never healed a disease." I would argue that atheism, or at least a lack of faith in God's ability to cure disease, is behind every known cure. If doctors and scientists had faith that only God could heal the sick, there would be no vaccines, surgeries, or chemotherapy.
"Atheism has never given anyone piece of mind." Oh, this could not be more wrong. Atheism frees the mind like almost nothing else. The weight that is lifted off of a person once the burden of faith is removed is impossible to adequately explain.
"Atheism has never dried a tear." Well speaking as an Atheist who has worked with children most of my life, and wiped away too many tears to count, I find this argument insulting and unworthy of response.
"Atheism has never given an intellectual answer to the creation." In fact Atheism is the ONLY pathway to truly understanding how everything that is, came to be. Once we remove the barriers that religion places in our way, there is no limit to what we will someday be able to discover and learn about ourselves, our world, and our universe.
Simply put this guy's a moron, and his arguments are pathetic.
By the by, if you think you recognize the name John Hagee, that might be due to the fact that he was the Evangelical pastor that John McCain cozied up to during the 2008 campaign before he had to reject him after finding out that he had said that the Holocaust was part of God's plan.
Oh yeah, THAT happened.

"The pornography of Anne Frank." Wait, what?
Courtesy of Christian Post:
The Anne Frank Diary is 'pornographic' according to one mother who has lodged a formal complaint over the book being used in school to educate her own child.
Mom, Gail Horalek, has filed a formal complaint against her daughter's school district over its use of the Anne Frank Diary, saying that many of the passages contained in the book are far too graphic for seventh graders like her daughter.
The mother highlights one part of the book in which Frank discusses discovering her genitalia, and Horalek has said it is akin to pornography, and is completely inappropriate for her child and her schoolmates.
She has complained that Meads Mill Middle School should have asked parents to sign a permission slip before they assigned the book to the children to read, due to the content.
She has said, "The problem is the school is giving the seventh graders inappropriate material and not explaining it to the parents," according to the Northville Patch.
Horalek has explained that the school has sent permission slips home for parents to sign when they have looked to use various other books and films that may contain strong material that some could deem "inappropriate."
Apparently the part of the book that has so offended this lunatic is this portion:
“What’s even funnier is that I thought urine came out of the clitoris … When you’re standing up, all you see from the front is hair. Between your legs there are two soft, cushiony things, also covered with hair, which press together when you’re standing, so you can’t see what’s inside. They separate when you sit down and they’re very red and quite fleshy on the inside.”
Okay look I think I know a little something about pornography, after all I am immoral, but if reading about the terrible fate of this young woman gets your juices going, you may have MUCH more to worry about than appropriate reading materials.
This is simply an honest description of a young woman writing about discovering her body parts. and in no way does it come off as salacious or prurient. At least no in my world.
This mother is obviously deeply disturbed and it makes me wonder how she handles all of those Donald Duck cartoons where the foul fowl is constantly running around without any pants on?
Here is the part that REALLY get me:
Horalek has now demanded that the book be removed from the curriculum: "It doesn't mean my child is sheltered, it doesn't mean I live in a bubble and it doesn't mean I'm trying to ban books."
Yes, yes it does! If you are demanding that a book be removed from a library, then you are by DEFINITION banning books!
You know if this idiot would spend more time on her reading comprehension, instead of focusing all of her attention on combing books for the mention of genitalia, she MIGHT have been able to figure that out for herself.

Just a little something to think about today. Richard Dawkins compares Creationists to Holocaust deniers.
Very provocative, but the comparison is clearly valid.
