The AP obtains the e-mails of Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis. And yes they are just as batshit crazy as you imagine.

Davis' emails, obtained by the Associated Press under the Kentucky open records law, offer some insight into her state of mind in the weeks leading up to her five-day stint in jail for defying a federal court order to issue the licenses. 

"The battle has just begun," Davis wrote in the email to a supporter in July, hours after four couples filed a federal lawsuit against her. It was the start of a monthslong legal fight against licensing same-sex marriages. 

"It has truly been a firestorm here and the days are pretty much a blur, but I am confident that God is in control of all of this!!" she wrote to the supporter on July 2, the day the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit against her on behalf of the couples. "I desire your prayers, I will need strength that only God can supply and I need a backbone like a saw log!!"

"Backbone like a saw log?"  Is that a Kentucky saying, or a crazy person saying?

But wait, there's more:  

Protesters crowded the courthouse lawn and news media from across the country descended on rural Rowan County. She complained to a supporter that the demonstrators stood outside her office window chanting into bullhorns. 

"Will your lawyers and several decent people be around you to protect you from the wicked threatening homosexual mob and their supporters?" a man from Somerset named Willie Ramsey wrote to ask. 

"They are going to try and make a whipping post out of me!!" she wrote in her response. "I know it, but God is still alive and on the throne!!! He IS in control and knows exactly where I am!!" 

"September 1 will be the day to prepare for, if the Lord doesn't return before then," Davis wrote him. 

("If the Lord doesn't return before then?" So she literally expects the end times to occur any day now.)

"I have weighed the cost, and will stay the course." Ramsey said he'd be willing to block the courthouse door if the law came for her that day. 

"I'm sure it will be a mad house!!" she told him, adding that "God will still be in control!!"

Whoa Nelly, that is some deeply psychotic babbling right there.

This woman is clearly suffering from a messiah complex and all of the media attention that she received only exacerbated her break with reality.

Here is what Slate had to say about the e-mails:

These are not the words of a rational public servant attempting to do her taxpayer-funded job to the best of her abilities. Nor are they the words of a conflicted religious person attempting to obtain an accommodation to balance her personal faith and public duties. These are the words of a religious fanatic who views herself as the protagonist in an epic, possibly biblical battle between good and evil—a millenialist zealot who hopes the rapture, rather than mere earthly courts, will intervene to save her.

Exactly! This is a woman suffering from a rather severe mental illness.

Which means that either Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz, who both showed up in Kentucky to support her, do not realize that, or suffer from the same or similar psychological issues.

Now don't get me wrong, I think that most people can have faith without necessarily losing the ability to separate reality from magical thinking, but in the case of this individual that is simply not true.

In my opinion a person like this should NEVER hold any kind of important public office, and any person who supports a person like this, should be kept as far away from the White House as humanly possible.

Simply put, this kind of thinking is dangerous.

You know I was all ready to laugh at the idea that Phil Robertson knew anything about a fundamentalist religious group seizing power and oppressing those who do not share their faith. But then I remembered his religious point of view and thought, "Who better?"

Possibly the best review of Sarah Palin's new book ever!

This comes to us from the Daily Beast:

Initially I planned to ignore this week’s release of Good Tidings and Great Joy, Sarah Palin’s book waging war on the war on Christmas. Few political hucksters milking the culture war for an easy buck peddle antics more shopworn than the annual fear-mongering that secularist Scrooges are coming for our creches. 

But then I couldn’t stop wondering: What happens when the Queen of Grievance takes up arms on behalf of the Prince of Peace’s birthday? 

I’ll tell you what happens. Pure magic. 

Don’t misunderstand. Palin’s book is neither well-written nor informative on either a political or a theological level. She does what plenty before her have done: scour the news for any cases of holiday-themed lawsuits or political scuffles, even ones where Christmas emerges triumphant, and whip them into a towering soufflé of proof that Jesus’s, and maybe even Santa’s, days are numbered. Her favorite conceit is to weave unconnected news snippets into over-the-top fantasy sequences—some set in the future! That allows her to mash up real-world episodes with more baroque scenarios sprung from the fever swamps of her imagination (like the lad docked points for using the word “Christmas” in a school essay), jack up the outrage factor with moralizing dialogue, and then proclaim: See, it’s all really happening! 

But to focus on Palin’s narrative or polemic gifts is to miss the point. The book is not, as the subtitle maternally suggests, about “Protecting the Heart of Christmas.” As with pretty much everything the former governor does, this is all about Venting the Spleen of Sarah. And that’s what makes it so gosh darn refreshing. Screw those treacly holiday offerings aiming to melt your heart or lift your spirits. Dickens? Bah, humbug. It’s a Wonderful Life? Sentimental swill. That tear-jerking “Christmas Shoes” song so nakedly exploitative that it makes you want to take a blowtorch to your ears? ’Nuff said. Good Tidings and Great Joy gives the finger to all that, offering instead Palin at her toxic best: snippy, snarky, snide, and thoroughly pissed off.

The review goes on from there to give the ghostwritten future doorstop the savaging it deserves.  And never forgets to remind people that this book has really NOTHING to do with Christmas, and everything to do with furthering Palin's brand. Above all, Palin never misses an opportunity to turn the attention back toward herself and how shabbily she has been treated in recent years.

I almost did not post this article, but then I ran across another article posted by a starry eyed Palin-bot and I thought the jarring juxtaposition between the clear headed and those who are still drunkenly stumbling around under the influence of Palin's potent purple potion. 

The title of this mash letter is, and I kid you not, "I Dream of Sarah's Eyes," which is all about this person's experiences seeing Palin during a book signing in Naples, Florida.

Here are a few of the low points:

I squatted in front of her. She was focused on her book signing right away and was kind of waiting for me to speak. So when she looked up, I asked: “Sarah, I just want one thing today: 

 I just want to look straight into your eyes.” She looked up from what she was doing and liked the question I think, and immediately stared right into mine. I was in heaven. 

I can’t describe just how powerful that encounter was. I will have to etch it in my memory and sketch it soon, because no one I know has a shot of Sarah’s luscious, penetrating eyes anywhere. Not from the angle I was at – eye level. Not up close. 

After Sarah and I looked at each other she asked me my name. I told her it was Isabel and that we had met in New Orleans last year. That’s when something clicked and she knew who I was. I know we’re a community, and I am always happy when someone gets something from Sarah or Chuck, but for two years I have yearned for some type of formal response or a special card from her recognizing something, anything, but nothing. This was so special - just for me and in front of me. I cannot ask for more. The rest is a blur.

I have heard less gushing from faithful Catholics who have had an audience with the Pope, or teenage girls of the fifties who got to see Elvis live in concert.

Yet somehow, from this small pool of deeply disturbed people, Palin is still able to elicit this fanaticism.

Something to keep in mind even as we celebrate how despised and ridiculed she is by a growing majority of Americans.

(P.S. I feel I should mention that I included the link to the Palin-bot blog becasue it is the right thing to do when borrowing somebody's words, but I caution you against going there and trying to mock her or challenge her in anyway. After all, nothing would make her feel closer to her ideal then coming under attack from the "libruls.")

A little wisdom from Nobel Prize winner Bertrand Russell.

Just who do you think Michele Bachmann might model her Presidency after? Perhaps watching her fawn over a recent President will provide us with a clue.

Jesus, that was disturbing.

One has to wonder if there had not been a crowd present exactly how Bachmann might have shown her affection for the Worst President Ever?

It is kind of bizarre that if the Teabaggers were honest about their frustration over what has happened to their country they would seek to have George Bush brought up on charges of treason, but I guess because he is white like them he gets a free pass.

Well if this is the guy that gets Bachmann's panties all wet, I have to imagine his two terms would serve as the blueprint for her own.  As if we needed yet ANOTHER reason to dismiss this nutjob.

Palin loses another ardent supporter.

This time Palin has allowed the wheels of her bus to chew up Lisa Graas, a huge Palin-bot who founded the blog Palin Twibe.

Graas lives in Kentucky and supports Gop candidate Bill Johnson.

However her idol suddenly decided to endorse Ron Paul's son, Rand Paul.

Looks like the answer to this question is yes -- Sarah Palin has endorsed Rand Paul in the Kentucky Senate GOP primary. Her spokeswoman just sent over this statement from the former Alaska governor: "I'm proud to support great grassroots candidates like Dr. Paul. While there are issues we disagree on, he and I are both in agreement that it's time to shake up the status quo in Washington and stand up for common sense ideas.

Needless to say this did not sit well with Graas.

"I've been sending almost daily communications to SarahPAC telling them about this race and begging them to call me. No one has called. I've been working for Sarah Palin since September of 2008 almost daily, in horrible pain, and can't get a ten-minute phone call from a staffer? It doesn't matter if it's not true. I'm done. It doesn't matter anymore. I'm done. They can't call me??? I'm done."

This has angered Graas so much that she is in the process of deleting Palin Twibe.

Like I said the Palin-bots are slow to learn, but they are finally beginning to figure Sarah Palin out. She is completely self-serving and, despite her rhetoric, she will do NOTHING that does not benefit her in some way.

It is kind of sad to watch this actually. Sort like when a child learns the truth about Santa Claus.

P.S. Speaking of Palin it looks like Willie Brown had an interesting encounter with Steve Schmidt at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel:

But it was John McCain campaign manager Steve Schmidt who stole the show with his tales of Sarah Palin.

He was still royally ripped with Palin for her comments about him in her book.

I joked that I'd read the book and figured it was about 70 percent fiction.

He said, "No, it's 100 percent fiction."

He also said that if Palin's real spending on clothes had been accurately reported during the campaign, the country would have been in an uproar.

According to Schmidt, she would go into a store, buy everything in sight, and have the bill sent to the Republican National Committee.

Schmidt said he stopped counting after the tab hit $250,000.

Why am I not surprised by this information?

Is it possible? Is Sarah Palin NOT pro-life enough for some of her potential supporters? You betcha!

As a candidate whom many pro-lifers want to support, her actual abortion record and rhetoric is shocking to the conscience.

This is the actual headline describing Sarah Palin's pro-life bono-fides on a scarily radical site called Prolife Profiles.

Now recently I have started using the phrase "Oh yeah they are crazy. But they are not Sarah Palin crazy!" However I now recognize that using the Sarah Palin measuring tool for crazy does not even begin to measure how incredibly screwed up the thinking is for this group of zealots.

Here is just a sampling of their points of contention with Queen Ester.

Claims a Child's Right to Life comes from the Government: Palin undermines the God-given right to life of the unborn by wrongly indicating that a child's right to live comes from the government by the people rather than from the Creator. When the Anchorage Daily News asked, "to what extent should abortion be prohibited in Alaska?" Sarah should have answered correctly that Alaska should never allow a single innocent child to be put to death. Instead of providing leadership and teaching about the child's right to life, Palin passed the buck and wrote, "it would not be up to the governor... It would be up to the people of Alaska to discuss and decide..." The News did not ask Palin "how" but "should" abortion be prohibited. To see how wrong and destructive Palin's answer is, imagine an anti-slavery activist, or an opposition leader in NAZI Germany, when asked if blacks should be free, or if Jews should be protected by law, answered, "It would be up to the people to decide." When a Christian leader disregards the Creator as the source of human rights, in a populace appeal for power, such political cowardice further erodes the hope of the innocent.

The kind of convoluted thinking that goes into comparing a woman's right to control her own body to the persecution of the Jewish people in Nazi Germany, or the freeing of slaves in America, is a frightening thing to behold. No pro-choice person wants to promote abortion, but they also do not want to allow the government to force a young woman to give birth to a baby that may be very sick or the product of a rape or incest.

Have any of these people ever witnessed the heartbreak of a young mother who has to watch the life her newborn with Anencephaly slowly fade away as she stands on the other side of a plexiglass incubator powerless to save them? What compassionate person would condemn any parent to that?

Uses Liberal, Socialist Terminology: Palin's Facebook page uses liberal, pro-choice, socialist terminology even in a very politically sensitive context (trying to defend her pro-life credentials after appointing a Planned Parenthood board member to the Supreme Court). America is told that Palin believes in a culture of life "from cradle to grave." This is poor, even harmful, communication and shows a lack of political savvy. On the economic spectrum from freedom (capitalism) through socialism, to communism, Palin commits an economic faux pas by using a term that describes a socialist government which gives entitlements including health care, "from cradle to grave." Regarding abortion, using the phrase "cradle to grave" seems to betray a pretend ownership of pro-life values.

"Cradle to grave", or in other words "birth to death", is not a long enough span of time for these nut-jobs to have dominion over. They want to control what women do with their own bodies from the moment the fertilized egg first connects to their uterus and the very possibility for life exists. I am amazed they are not standing on a street corner waving signs condemning the menstrual cycle for killing "potential babies"or demanding that women in their late forties and early fifties take medication to delay Menopause so that they still retain the possibility of giving birth. If you want to bring up the term Nazism I think you have a found an appropriate application.

Thinks some Kids must be Killed: Palin promotes the egregious error that some abortions are medically necessary when she refers to non-elective child killing by writing, "I oppose the use of public funds for elective abortions." Abortion is always wrong because it's a baby; it's never right to intentionally kill a baby. Laws for "the life of the mother" are not meant to save the mother but to kill the baby.

This kind of black and white thinking is the very definition of intellectual lethargy. These people do not take the time to educate themselves, they simply listen to the propaganda that filters down from the pulpit, accept it as "revealed truth", and dare not commit the sin of questioning the validity of the information.

What they fail to realize is that if every potential human being were to be born on this tiny planet, the overcrowding and lack of resources would force us into the kind of war that would leave hundreds of millions dead and whole stretches of the planet burnt beyond recognition.

Creation Should Not be State Policy: Palin undermines the God-given right to life by advocating that evolution "should be taught as an accepted principle," and that God's hand in creation, "should not be part of state policy or a local curriculum..." But then, where do rights come from? Palin thus would keep from children the fundamental truth that even a deist like Thomas Jefferson acknowledged in our Declaration of Independence that people "are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights [and] that among these are Life..."

Just in case you did not yet realize that this is a crowd with not much use for science.

And this is why they keep their children out of the public school system. Choosing instead to home school them or send them to Christian schools, where education is secondary to indoctrination. Remember, believing is more important than thinking. In other words the very thing that separates us from the animals we share this planet with, and the secret to our dominance, is deemed harmful to the furtherance of their agenda. Ponder that for a little while.

Summary: Sarah Palin claims to be personally pro-life but her words and actions prove that she is officially pro-choice and stands against the God-given right to life of the unborn. Even if Roe v Wade were reversed, Palin says she would still leave the decision to kill children to others. That's not leadership. Like the liberation of Germany in 1945, the road to protecting America's children might pass through fields of sacrifice. Whether or not she would see this as possibly costing her entire political future, ProlifeProfiles hopes that Mrs. Palin will take a new stand and make a true commitment to protect unborn children.

Wow! It is rare that I defend Sarah Palin, and I would not hurt yourself looking for instances on this blog, but this one time I have to applaud her for not COMPLETELY succumbing to this frightening mindset. These people are out of their freaking minds!

They are single issue fanatics who judge everybody through their very narrow pro-life prism. Surely NOBODY could pass their insane, anti-intellectual criteria!

These are EXACTLY the kinds of people that Sarah Palin needs to support her in order to form a new political third party. But it is clear that if she wants to woo them she is going to have to get to a level of crazy even more crazy than "Sarah Palin crazy". So what do you think? Will she go there?

You know what? I think she is already on her way.
