Remembering 2014. There will be tears.

The minute Robin Williams starting speaking I was gone. So many feels.

What an amazing, tragic, and eventful year.

But also immensely satisfying. 

As Maya Angelou so beautifully put it, "I've had rainbows in my clouds."

I cannot think of a better way to end the day than a little Robin Williams.

The above is a portion of Robin's first Tonight Show appearance that I referenced with my earlier post.  There is more but sadly I cannot find it.

There have been a lot of tributes to Williams today, but honestly I have made a choice not to watch them. I always get irritated when entertainment shows and cable news outlets interview everybody even remotely connected to a recently deceased famous person and ask them to put aside their grief and share something that will increase their ratings.

I have my memories, and that is enough for me.

I noticed that one of the people who expressed her condolences today was Sarah Palin. (Though she used the post to also pimp Brancy's blog.)

And that is fine, everybody has the right to express their feelings without regard to political leanings or a possible lack of sanity.

However I could not help but remember how Robin fest about the Wasilla Wendigo, and thought that was probably worth sharing as well.

"Did Ronald Reagan have a kid with Vanna White and drop it off in Alaska? And it was raised by wolves?"

So good.

And so, so going to be missed.

A word about the wonderful Robin Williams.

Here at IM I do not typically remark on the passing of famous comedians or actors, but Robin Williams was so much more than that.

There are some people in this world so unique that you know you will never see their like ever again.

Robin Williams was one such individual.

I grew up in the seventies so of course Robin Williams is an important part of my adolescent memories.

In fact I first heard some of his humor coming out of the mouth of a friend of mine who had gone to San Francisco for a school break and watched his act before he became famous.

I thought my friend was incredibly brilliant, and as he regurgitated the comedian's jokes he had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes.

A bit later I saw Mork completely blow the Fonz's mind on Happy Days, and I went "Hey wait a minute...."

Later Robin was on Mork and Mindy, which was "must see TV" in my house.

I remember seeing his first appearance on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and how unlike every guest in the history of the show he refused to remain in the seat to be interviewed, but kept jumping up to act out bits and to do crazy voices. 

Robin did not have restless leg syndrome, he had restless everything syndrome.

After a few minutes Carson was laughing so hard that I wondered if he could finish the show.

After that I NEVER missed an interview with Robin Williams on late night television.

I have worked with kids much of my life so I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I have seen Aladdin, Jumanji, or Hook, but it has been a lot.

For myself my favorite performances were in Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, and Good Will Hunting. (For that last one Robin improvised this scene which cracked both Matt Damon and the cameraman up so much they barely got through it.)

I could literally go on forever about the talents of this man, and his enormous impact on my life, and the life of others.  But that would be self serving, and there are other, infinitely less important things we must discuss today.

I am going to try and crack a smile or two in memory of this comedy god, and I suggest that you do the same.

After all he would want us to laugh, not cry.

Personally I think I might do a little of both.

Just for fun: Robin Williams has a little Twitter fun at Kim Kardashian's expense.

Okay so the very pregnant Kim Kardashian showed up recently at the Met Ball, with a not very enthusiastic looking Kanye West, which spurred social media to tweet, Facebook, and Reddit the pictures all over the internet.

Even today it is so pervasive that it is almost impossible to go anywhere on line without bumping into the image.

However it is not my usual kind of a subject so I have not paid a great deal of attention. That is until one of the folks I follow on Twitter responded to the picture in a way that MUST be shared!

Okay you have to admit THAT is pretty funny!

By the way just in case there are any of you who still think that Kim is pulling a Sarah Palin with a fake pregnancy, I just have to say, "Yeah, not so much."

NOBODY who was as vain as this woman clearly is, would allow herself to be seen like this unless she had no other choice.

Okay back to politics now.
