Actor/director Jordan Peele manipulates video of Barack Obama to make statement about fake news.

Courtesy of Buzzfeed:

“We’re entering an era in which our enemies can make it look like anyone is saying anything at any point in time — even if they would never say those things,” says “Obama,” his lips moving in perfect sync with his words as they become increasingly bizarre. “So, for instance, they could have me say things like, I don’t know, [Black Panther’s] Killmonger was right! Or Ben Carson is in the sunken place! Or, how ’bout this: Simply, President Trump is a total and complete dipshit.”

As the video soon reveals, the man speaking is not the former commander-in-chief, but rather Oscar-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele with a warning for viewers about trusting material they encounter online.

“This is a dangerous time. Moving forward, we need to be more vigilant with what we trust from the internet,” says Peele as Obama.

The PSA for the Internet Age was a project first imagined by Peele and BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti, the filmmaker’s brother-in-law.

The pair wanted to warn the public about the rapidly evolving threat posed by digital misinformation after discussions between them about new technologies and the erosion of a shared reality.

Okay I am not going to lie, that is straight up terrifying.

And not so much because somebody MIGHT create a fake video of somebody saying something shocking or controversial (We know that they will.), but that it allows people caught on tape saying something shocking or controversial to claim that THEY were the target of video manipulation.

Think about it.

This means that news outlets might broadcast a completely legitimate video of Donald Trump saying something truly stupid or embarrassing and the Right Wing media can manipulate their own video, claim it is the real one, and call the mainstream media version "fake news."

You know it is going to happen. In fact it probably already has.

CPAC panelist requires security to escort her out of the building after she calls conservatives out for supporting Donald Trump and Roy Moore.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

Right wing pundit Mona Charen had to be protected and escorted by security officers when leaving the CPAC stage Saturday afternoon after voicing her opinion on Republicans who hypocritically support “sexual harassers and abusers of women,” specifically, President Donald Trump and former Senate candidate Roy Moore. She also called French neo-fascist Marine Le Pen a “disgrace.”

Charen was part of a four-person panel at CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, who was asked what riles her up.

“I’m disappointed in people on our side for being hypocrites about sexual harassers and abusers of women who are in our party, who are sitting in the White House, who brag about their extra-marital affairs, who brag about mistreating women,” Charen, speaking about President Trump, told the audience. They reportedly booed her.

“The Republican Party endorsed Roy Moore for Senate in the state of Alabama even though he was a credibly accused child molester,” she continued.

Several people in the audience booed and shouted, “Not true!”

“You cannot claim that you stand for women, and put up with that,” Charen insisted.

Now before you get too excited about this woman you should know that she writes books attacking liberals and  the LGBTQ community, and is essentially a fairly terrible person.

She just happened to speak a little truth in a place where truth is defined as an enemy of the people.

Advertiser says he puts commercials on Fox News because their viewers are "extremely gullible" and "f*cking idiots."

Courtesy of DML News:

The CEO of SCOTTeVEST recently claimed that his company advertises on Fox News because the network’s viewers are “extremely gullible” and “f**cking idiots.”

Scott Jordan, whose company sells a vest which features multiple inside pockets designed to carry items such as a phone, tablet, water bottle and more, posted his derogatory comments on Facebook, Breitbart News reported.

“I love meeting new people that recognize me and my company from all of our television commercials,” Jordan wrote. “I am on a ski lift and the following exchange just happened and happens often.”

Jordan wrote that he asks the person where they saw his advertisement. “Invariably people say FOXNews.”

“I laugh to myself,” Jordan wrote, “and tell them that we primarily advertise on Fox because we find their viewership to be extremely gullible and much easier to sell than other networks.”

Jordan then mocks his potential customers. “The look on their face at that time is priceless. I am not kidding you. I get to tell them they are fucking idiots while getting rich off them.”

As you may have guessed the company issued an apology and claimed that they did not share these views.

Jordan was also forced to apologize and has since deleted his Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Yep, those Fox viewers simply cannot accept the truth.

Especially when it is about them.

Yeah, what he said.

Tried to give these people the benefit of the doubt, but not anymore.

Artists shame Donald Trump by projecting the truth on his own building.

Courtesy of the New York Daily News:

Artists in Washington D.C. briefly blasted the Trump International Hotel with a projection instructing guests to drop off their foreign cash inside.

Robin Bell said he kicked off the colorful display from a van parked across the street around 9:15 p.m. Monday.

It lasted 10 minutes before a security guard for the Old Post Office stood in front of the projector, blocking its feed.

“We had a couple great moments. A tour bus pulled up, people started clapping and taking photos,” Bell told the Daily News. “Everyone on the street, except for the security guard, seemed really happy.”

Okay that's just brilliant.

Neil deGrasse Tyson warns that due to a lack of trust in scientific fact America is "already kind of fading."

Courtesy of HuffPo:

“It’s the beginning of the end,” he told Yahoo News and Finance anchor Bianna Golodryga. “It’s the beginning of the end of an informed democracy, the moment people are debating whether an objectively established scientific truth is true. The moment that happens, there is no informed decision-making.”

Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, said he was disturbed that government leaders were ignoring the scientific reports from the National Academy of Sciences.

“If you’re going to ignore their reports, there is no future for a country that wants to thrive in terms of its health and its wealth and its security,” he said.

Tyson said competition in all those fields require “innovation and intelligent investments” in science, technology, engineering and math.

“If you don’t have that, just watch America fade. We’re already kind of fading. Just watch it continue to fade and just disappear. It’s not a cliff, so you don’t know it. You don’t ‘oh, we’re stepping over the edge.’ No, no. It’s just, we’ll become less relevant. The world starts making decisions without us, where we used to lead those very same decisions.”

“I’m so disappointed that the country that I grew up in ― that put men on the moon, that developed the internet, that invented personal computers and smartphones ― that people are debating what is and what is not scientifically true.”

I actually do not think we need a famous astrophysicist to point this out to us, we are seeing it with our own eyes almost every day.

This is what helped to elect Donald Trump.

This is what is undermining our public education.

And this is what is potentially destroying the future of our country.

It is what the conservatives have been pushing us toward for decades.

If facts have a liberal bias, well then facts need to be undermined and stripped of their ability to shape the opinions and open the minds of the American citizens.

And here we are.

At a place where truth is a matter of opinion, and reality is open to interpretation.

Possibly the truest statement I have ever posted.

This is the same reason I would be surprised if we suffered any terrorist attacks in the next few years.

Why bother wasting bombs or bullets on people who are being led to their doom by Donald Trump?

Carl Bernstein on Donald Trump: " He has lied as no president of the United States in my lifetime has, day in and day out."

Courtesy of The Hill:

CNN commentator and veteran reporter Carl Bernstein on Sunday accused President Trump of lying "day in and day out."

“He deserves respect as the duly elected president of the United States," Bernstein said on CNN's "Reliable Sources." "That doesn’t mean he deserves not to be called on lies. He has lied as no president of the United States in my lifetime has, day in and day out."

"It is our job to, as I said in that address to the correspondents' dinner last night: follow the money, yes, but follow the lies as well."

Bernstein urged fellow reporters to find the "best obtainable version of the truth."

"We are struggling to cover factually, contextually, with nuance, who this president is, who this individual is, who his family is, who his business relationships are with, what his policies are, and how those working with him are doing," he said.

Lately I have been feeling mad respect for Carl Bernstein as he has not been at all shy about calling things as they are.

He has been calling Trump a liar since way back in June of last year, and he was one of the first to point out that there was a coverup going on in the White House.

What we need right now is a whole army of Carl Bernstein's who are not afraid to call a lie a lie, a coverup a coverup, and bullshit exactly what it smells like.

Donald Trump is now calling polls, and any information that disagrees with his version of reality, fake news.

Okay, that's insane.

Here is Politifact's scorecard for the Trump team:

We have seen administration play hard and fast with the truth before, but we have NEVER seen anything like this.

Donald Trump is openly calling for people to ignore reality and only accept the "truth" as he sees it.

Trump is also planning to use taxpayer money to set up a commission headed by Mike Pence to look into the "voter fraud" that Trump insists stole the popular vote away from him.

As I said at the top of the page, that's fucking insane!

We need to spread this far and wide.

There is simply NO comparison.

In fact mentioning these two men in the same breath should be considered sacrilegious.

Same response to everything.

You know when I first saw this cartoon I thought it was mildly humorous, but then I started thinking that it was also completely accurate.

Doanld Trump really does refer to women's looks or  their weight just about every time he is confronted with an uncomfortable truth.

That is why he brought up Rosie O'Donnell when Hillary started talking about Miss Venezuela during the debate.

The guy is a pig.

Donald Trump: "No sniffles."

(H/T to New York Magazine.)

No sniffles?

Gee I hate to call Donald Trump a liar, but...... But in Donald Trump's reality that never happened.

And hey do you remember during the debate when Donald Trump bragged about not paying taxes?

During the first presidential debate, during a discussion about Donald Trump's refusal to release his tax returns, Hillary Clinton noted that he's "paid nothing in federal taxes" in recent years.

"That makes me smart," Trump bragged.

Well no you don't because it never happened.

Donald Trump an hour afterward:

Dana Bash (CNN): “My question for you is, first of all, it sounds like you admitted that you hadn't paid federal taxes and that that was smart. Is that what you meant to say?

Trump: “No, I didn't say that at all.”

Now see the thing to keep in mind here is that you cannot trust your eyes, your ears, of your critical thinking skills.

If Donald Trump does not say something happened, then it didn't happen.

In other words if a tree falls in the woods, and Donald Trump does not hear it fall, those woods have already been cut down to built another Trump monstrosity in New York City.

Just to keep things in perspective.

Did you notice that the two top truth tellers are our current President, and our next President?

Bible scholar writes book pointing out that what you think the Bible says, it not at all what it says.

Bible scholar Dr. Joel M. Hoffman has written a new book entitled "The Bible Doesn't Say That: 40 Biblical Mistranslations, Misconceptions, and Other Misunderstandings" which reveals that what many people take as gospel, is anything but.

Here are a few examp0les courtesy of Chron:

The Bible Doesn't Call Homosexuality A Sin

Only three biblical passages address homosexuality directly. And while they frown on some male homosexual behavior, they do not condemn all of homosexuality, and they do not call it a sin.

So it's a double mistake to say that "the Bible calls homosexuality a sin."

The Ten Commandments Don't Prohibit Coveting

The word "covet" in "thou shalt not covet" is a translation mistake. The original Hebrew verb here, CHAMAD, means "to take," a fact we learn by looking at how the word is used in context is that some things are not just illegal but also immoral.

The mistranslation "thou shalt not covet" wrongly suggests that feelings might be immoral, while the original text only addresses actions.

The Bible Doesn't Contradict Evolution

Some modern critics of the Bible claim that you can't believe the Bible if you think evolution is right, and some modern Bible readers say that you can't believe evolution if you think the Bible is right.

Both groups have misunderstood the Bible. What they don't grasp is that most of the stories in Genesis were not meant to be history.

One of the ways we know is that there are, in fact, two creation stories --- one in which Eve is created from Adam's rib, the other in which Adam and Eve are created at the same time. They can't both be historically accurate, and they were not intended to be.

Rather, evolution is a scientific truth and the creation stories in the Bible are religious truths. And sometimes "believing the Bible" means believing that a story in it didn't happen.

"Biblical Marriage" Lets Men Marry More Than One Wife

"Biblical marriage" is a hot topic, but even a quick look at biblical marriage shows that it's not what most people think.

According to both the Old Testament and the New Testament, most men are allowed to have lots of wives at once -- the exceptions being kings (who according to Deuteronomy 17 can only have a few wives) and some religious leaders (who according to 1 Timothy can only have one).

Biblical marriage does not have be between only one man and one woman.

The Bible Doesn't Forbid Abortion

There's one direct mention of losing a fetus in the Bible, and that's in Exodus 21. The Hebrew isn't entirely clear, but the question there seems to be: What happens if a man accidentally causes a woman's miscarriage?

The normal eye-for-an-eye, tooth-for-a-tooth rule won't work, because the man doesn't have a fetus to match the woman's lost fetus.

The answer is that the man has to pay a fine. Because a fine is never the penalty for murder, we learn that, according to the Bible, abortion is not murder. Other than that, the Bible offers no guidance about abortion.

There is of course quite a lot more, but you get the gist.

One of my go to rules for understanding the Bible is to never ask for clarification from priests, ministers, nuns, or even Christians.

Most of them are salespeople trying to sell a product. They only care about a truth that helps them to achieve that goal, not actual truth itself.

It is hard to imagine that a book which has had such incredible impact on humanity is so poorly understood by the majority of humans.

But then again, we don't have to imagine it do we?

How truthful are the presidential candidates?

Source
Kind of surprising that Hillary does better with truthfulness than Bernie Sanders, don't you think?

So much for the whole "She's untrustworthy" meme.

Sarah Palin says we should always tell the truth. Wait, Sarah Palin said this?

Courtesy of Hypocritical Heidi's Facebook page:

Today, try to remember it’s our responsibility to always tell the truth—including calling a sin a sin. ‪#‎SweetFreedom‬.

Yeah well you first lady!

How about admitting that you don't even write your own books?

Or that your marriage is a sham?

Or that you NEVER go hunting, and only did so for your reality show?

Conservatives keep lying about the deficit under the Obama administration. Here's the truth.

Courtesy of MSNBC:

Keep in mind, in the Obama era, the deficit has shrunk by $1 trillion. That’s “trillion,” with a “t.” As a percentage of the economy, the deficit is now down to just 2.5%, which is below the average of the past half-century, and down from 9.8% when the president took office.

Those are the facts, however thanks to the constant barrage of Right Wing propaganda hardly anybody knows it:

The vast majority of Americans are absolutely certain – thanks to deceptive Republican rhetoric and unfortunate news coverage – that the deficit has soared in the Obama era. Late last year, a Bloomberg Politics Poll found that 73% of the public believes the deficit has gotten bigger over the last six years.

Just the other day I heard some conservative claim that under Obama the deficit had grown another trillion dollars. I knew that was wrong, so when I saw this article on The Maddow Blog I felt is really needed to be shared with as many people as possible.

I feel it is my job as a liberal to filter through the conservative BS,  find the nuggets of actual truth, and then make sure that people see and understand them.

Sometimes I really hate my job.
