NBC confirms that it paid off former assistant producer after she brought a sexual harassment complaint against Chris Matthews.

The website, citing two sources, reported that NBC paid the woman $40,000 to settle her claim against Matthews in 1999. An NBC spokesperson told The Daily Caller the network paid a smaller, unspecified amount as part of a severance package. 

The woman complained to executives that Matthews, now 71, had made inappropriate comments to her and made inappropriate jokes about her to others. 

An MSNBC spokesman told The Daily Caller that Matthews had been slapped with a formal reprimand at the time the woman made her complaint. The website reported that the network decided that the complaints were "inappropriate and juvenile," but were not intended as propositions.

There is no way that this should be unexpected to people who watch Hardball. 

Matthews' often uncomfortable remarks toward female guests has been prominently on display for decades.

Even as a male viewer of the program, I have been creeped out by Tweety more than a few times.

However let's keep in mind that according to this story Matthews was NOT trying to sleep with these women nor using his power to bully them. At least as far as we know right now.

And that should puts him in a separate category than the Roy Moore's or Donald Trump's of this world.

I still think he is going to lose his job however.

If you are right now wondering why you never heard of this "Bowling Green massacre" that is because it never happened.

Here is Vox trying to make some sense out of Conway's bullshit: 

In 2011, two Iraqi refugees, Waad Ramadan Alwan and Mohanad Shareef Hammadi, were arrested in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on federal terrorism charges. Allegedly, they had been plotting to send money and weapons back home to Iraqi insurgents. 

During the investigation, the FBI found something worrying: fingerprints from Alwan on a roadside bomb in Iraq. This suggested there was a very specific flaw in America’s refugee screening process: Databases of fingerprints from Iraqi militants were not well-integrated into the broader State Department–run refugee admissions process. As a result, the Obama administration initiated a new review of all roughly 57,000 Iraqi refugees who had been recently admitted into the United States.

See? No massacre.

And also there was never a "ban," just a more intensive vetting of refugees coming from Iraq which resulted in a slowdown that lasted about six months.

This is how Vox summed it up:

No one was killed by refugees in Bowling Green. 

There was never even a plan to kill anyone in Bowling Green. 

There was no ban on Iraqi refugee admissions afterward.

In other words this is fake news. 

Which by the way, the Trump administration seems to create every single day.

Chris Matthews gets Donald Trump to say that he believes women should be jailed for having an abortion.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Wednesday that women who had abortions should face “some form of punishment” if Republicans were successful in banning the practice. 

During a town hall event that set to air on MSNBC Wednesday night, host Chris Matthews insisted that Trump could not dodge the question of how to enforce an abortion ban. 

“Look, people in certain parts of the Republican Party, conservative Republicans, would say, ‘Yes, it should,’” Trump replied. “I would say it’s a very serious problem and it’s a problem we have to decide on. Are you going to send them to jail?” 

“There has to be some form of punishment,” he said. 

“For the woman?” Matthews pressed. 

“Yeah,” Trump replied, adding that the punishment would “have to be determined.”

You know I think that Matthews gets a lot of well deserved criticism, but damn sometimes he is exactly the right kind of interviewer to the truth out of these politicians.

Okay this Hardball interview with the guy who provided intelligence about Iraq to George W. Bush in the lead up to the war is not getting nearly enough attention.

On Tuesday night, former CIA Deputy Director and Bush’s intelligence briefer Michael Morell appeared on MSNBC’s “Hardball,” where he, under an amount of good cable news duress, admitted that the administration intentionally misrepresented intelligence. 

The show played a clip of Cheney saying, “We know [Saddam Hussein] has been absolutely devoted to trying to acquire nuclear weapons. And we believe he has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons.” 

“Was that true or not,” host Chris Matthews asked. 

“We were saying–” 

“Can you answer that question? Was that true?” 

“No, that was not true,” he finally said.

Okay as all of you know I often find Matthew's interview style irritating because he will never let anybody finish their answer, but in this case it was EXACTLY what was needed to get the truth out of this guy.

And like Matthews I am amazed that this guy has allowed his intelligence to be mischaracterized for all of these years as faulty, and has essentially unfairly taken the blame for the purposeful lies that the Bush administration told to convince Americans to support this unnecessary war.

What I want from this moment forward is for reporters to start every interview with the GOP presidential wannabes with a showing of this clip, followed up by the question "Now do you think President Bush was right to send troops into Iraq?"

Because let me tell you I would be eating popcorn by the fistful while gleefully watching their responses to that!

President Obama VS Senator Elizabeth Warren on TPP.

President Barack Obama said Tuesday that Elizabeth Warren is “wrong” in her criticisms of the Asia-Pacific trade agreement he’s trying to reach — an unusually direct criticism of the senator whose support he has courted on other issues that are increasingly shaping his party’s economic agenda. 

“I love Elizabeth. We’re allies on a whole host of issues. But she’s wrong on this,” Obama said in an interview with Chris Matthews to air Tuesday night on “Hardball.” 

Obama bristled at the suggestion that his trade agenda would hurt the middle class, a criticism he has faced from key union allies as well as Warren. 

“Think about it. I’ve spent the last six and half years yanking this economy out of the worst recession since the great depression. Every single thing I’ve done from the Affordable Care Act to pushing to raise the minimum wage to making sure that young people are able to go to college and get good job training to what we’re pushing now in terms of sick pay leave,” Obama said. “Everything I do has been focused on how do we make sure the middle class is getting a fair deal.” 

“Now I would not be doing this trade deal if I did not think it was good for the middle class. And when you hear folks make a lot of suggestions about how bad this trade deal is, when you dig into the facts they are wrong,” Obama said.

Now I have a confession folks, your Uncle Gryphen is by no means an expert on trade deals, so I feel this whole thing is above my pay grade.

Not only that but we don't have enough information to even assess if this is a good deal or not. Which of course seems to be Warren's major concern. (Though it appears that she herself HAS seen the deal.)

And since I have nothing but respect for both President Obama and Senator Warren, I am quite torn over all of this.

Yes it is inconceivable to me that Obama would do anything to hurt the middle class. However it is equally inconceivable that Warren would have her facts wrong.

To be honest I kind of feel like a little kid who just wants his parents to stop fighting.

I think President Obama should simply invite Warren to the White House for a beer and pick her brain. After all if you want a good deal it can't hurt to have a former Harvard law professor take a look at it and give her recommendations, now can it?

Chris Matthews rages against Netanyahu speech, Jon Stewart jokes about it, and Sarah Palin just tries to make a buck.

“I’ll get to the heart of this speech now,” Matthews told MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts. “This man from a foreign government walked into the United States legislative chamber and tried to take over U.S. foreign policy. He said, ‘You should trust me, not your president on this. I am the man you should trust, I am your true leader on this question of U.S. geopolitics. To protect yourself, you must listen to me and not this president.’” 

“It was a startling situation,” he continued. “To allow someone to come in — knowing that was going to be their message — to the U.S. Congress. This was a decision made by Boehner and certainly complied with by Netanyahu and his ambassador [Ron Dermer]. They went into the U.S. Congress to take over U.S. foreign policy from the president.” 

“Think it through, what country in the world would let a foreign leader come in and attempt to wrest from the president control of the U.S. foreign policy?” Matthews asked. 

“This was a takeover attempt by Netanyahu with this complying America partners to take American foreign policy out of the hands of the president.”

I watched portions of the speech, and watched several responses to it as well, and I think in this case Matthews is dead on. 

Can any of us imagine this happening to any other President than Barack Obama? I certainly can't.

It is just another indication of how little respect the Republicans demonstrate toward a duly elected two term President of these United States.

Jon Stewart was not impressed with Netanyahu's speech either and called the congressional response to it,  "by far the longest blowjob a Jewish man has ever received."

Of course not all of the Republicans demonstrated the same level of idolatry.

Of course for Sarah Palin every word that fell out of Netanyahu's mouth was a gem, and also an opportunity to sell t-shirts and get more money into the SarahPAC coffers:

I assume this is the Republican's idea of a jobs plan. To send more Americans overseas to fight in senseless wars and leave fewer of them signing up for unemployment benefits here at home.

MSNBC cancels Ronan Farrow show. Well its' about damn time!

MSNBC’s daytime changes continued Thursday with the cancellation of “Ronan Farrow Daily,” an MSNBC spokesperson confirmed to TheWrap. 

Farrow’s program was mired with poor ratings since its premiere one year ago. His show’s axing comes on the same day the program which follows him—”The Reid Report” hosted by Joy Reid—was also canceled.

Okay well I feel badly for Reid who I thought did a reasonable job, but I am ecstatic that Farrow is off the air.

Full disclosure even though MSNBC is my go to news source most of the time, there are a few hosts that I can only take in small portions.

One is Joe Scarborough who I rarely see because his show is over by 5 AM Alaska time. So I only see a portion of his show if something particularly newsworthy happened.

Which is rare these days.

I also can only handle Chris Matthews and Al Sharpton in small doses.

Matthews because he is an arrogant windbag, that seems sometimes to be leaning a little to Libertarian for my tastes, and Sharpton because he has a god awful time reading from the teleprompter, and it drives me nuts.

But only Farrow will force me to change the channel to literally anything else.

That has sometimes included changing the channel to Fox News, so you KNOW he must really bother me.

I cannot even put my finger on what it is exactly. But something about him repels me in a way that few television talking heads ever have.

Hell I would rather sit through Sean Hannity talking shit about the President, then watch Ronan Farrow report on how Obamacare is improving health care in this country.

I am also pleased with who will replace Farrow and Reid: 

The network will move “Way Too Early” host Thomas Roberts to the 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. timeslot, where he’ll host a news show. 

Now see I really like Roberts and thought his talents were wasted as part of the Morning Joe fraternity.

The guy is smart, quick witted, and always very professional.

So I look forward to the debut of his new show.

The article goes on to say that Farrow will host a series of interview specials, but I can assure you I will not watch one of them. Not one.

David Axelrod reveals that the Obama campaign was initially concerned about Sarah Palin when John McCain tapped her as his VP candidate, but Obama was not.

The first questions he asks him is about the campaigns response to Sarah Palin.

Axelrod: "Well there's no doubt that she was a little energy drink for the McCain campaign that badly needed it. And it shook things up. And it shook things up because she provided this sense of change and newness and an assault on the Washington establishment which was really undermining our message. So by the time...the day before the Lehman Brothers crash we were getting togetehr because our poll had us one point ahead in that race. And it was largely because of the energy that Palin had inserted into the McCain campaign."

Wow, you know it has been so many years now that I almost forget that there was a time when people actually thought Sarah Palin was a wunderkind and that she was the future of, not only Republican politics, but politics in America.

Matthews then reads a portion of Axelrod's book to him for comment. That section goes as follows:

"The East Coast establishment might disdain her as unlettered and ill-prepared, but that would only make her more appealing to millions of Americans who felt like they had been getting the raw end of the deal."

Matthews then suggests that Axelrod understood the disparity between the working class and the elite, and therefore understood her appeal.

Axelrod: "See that was the mistake that people made when she was picked, people focused on the fact that she was a woman. The fact that she was a woman wasn't the key, the fact that she had this cultural affinity for these disaffected workign class Americans was what made her potent."

You know this is a fascinating quote because I actually don't think that she had that affinity with the working class. I really think that much of her appeal had to do with her looks, and that the mere fact that she was so clearly undereducated meant that certain segments of the electorate felt that they could identify with her, in that if SHE could be a candidate then why couldn't they?

I also think that because at first little was known about her, she was a blank slate that people could fill with what they wanted to see, rather than what was really standing there before them.

It is only now, so many years later, that some conservatives are finally willing to drop the rose colored glasses that they put on the moment she took the stage to see her for who she really is.

However apparently Obama himself was not fooled.

Axelrod: "One thing I want to say about this though, Obama had a really interesting reaction when we heard she had been picked. He said 'You know I understand why he's doing it (McCain) but this is really tough, this national thing. It took me six months to be a good candidate.' He said 'She may be the greatest politician since Ronald Reagan, that she can come out of Alaska after a year of being Governor and handle this,' he said, "but give this three weeks, four weeks, let's see how this settles.' And the truth is she ran into some problems."

Boy there's an understatement.

I just really found this whole conversation quite interesting.

So it seems that many experienced political operatives were panicked by her appearance, but the President himself recognized that the road that lay ahead of her would reveal if she had what it took to be the star that so many already believed her to be.

And of course the road did just that, and no she was not.

New survey of newscasters finds Chris Matthews to be the least likeable. Yeah, I can see that.

Pelley's 19 Positive Q Score, which measures likeability, helped him just beat the No. 2 guy, CNN's Anderson Cooper, who had an 18. Cooper's 56 Recognizability score places him among the highest on this list. 

“Hardball” host Chris Matthews struck out with the lowest likeability score of all. 

To create Q Scores, executive vice president Henry Schafer and his team provides a personality's name and a brief description to more than 1,800 viewers. The viewers are asked if they recognize the person, and how they feel about him or her. 

Compared to other TV personalities — from late-night hosts to morning hosts — newscasters tend to be less recognizable and less liked. 

While I am gratified to see that Rachel Maddow,  Tamron Hall, and Thomas Roberts from MSNBC all placed higher than anybody from Fox I am very displeased to see Lara Logan at number three.

Didn't anybody see her disastrous Benghazi debacle?

I think her entire likeability factor is based on the fact that horny men are fantasizing about having sex with her. Buncha pigs!

And as much as I want to come to the defense of my MSNBC brothers and sisters I simply CANNOT disagree with placing tweety at the bottom of the pile.

The man simply cannot stop interrupting his guests and making stupid comments.

Matthews has done some great reporting, and was called out a number of politicians on their crap, but he is incredibly hard to watch sometimes. Though I would still watch him over Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity ANY day.

Actually if you are looking for the most annoying MSNBC host, that honor should go to Ronan Farrow. I am not even exaggerating that he is the only MSNBC personality who has irritated me enough that I have switched to Fox News instead. True story.

Bill Maher believes that President Obama keeps his policies "centrist" due to fear of assassination.

What follows is part of a conversation between Maher and Chris Matthews on the Overtime portion of last Friday's Real Time. The transcript is courtesy of Real Clear Politics:

BILL MAHER: It seems like the people like that, Kennedy, they just seem to always, at the end of the day, somehow get cut out of the picture -- violently, or otherwise -- and maybe that is why Barack Obama is a little more of a centrist than we want him to be. 

CHRIS MATTHEWS: You think that? 

MAHER: Well, I think he knows that if he goes a little too far to the left -- 

MATTHEWS: Really? 

MAHER: Well, yeah. 

MATTHEWS: I'm just really curious that you think that. 

MAHER: Well, if I were Barack -- 

MATTHEWS: That's an extraordinary statement. 

MAHER: What? You don't think -- 

MATTHEWS: I'm just saying that's an extraordinary statement. I'm amazed -- I'm impressed you think that. 

MAHER: Think what? 

MATTHEWS: That his policies are driven by fear of assassination. 

MAHER: Well, not by fear of assassination. 

JAMES GLASSMAN: Is that what you said? 

MATTHEWS: Then by what? 

MAHER: Well, I'm saying that yeah -- 

MATTHEWS: I thought you just said that. 

MAHER: I didn't say it in those words. 

MATTHEWS: Well, I would try and clarify. 

MAHER: Well, I'm saying that, yeah, I think that's something that probably [Obama] thinks about at night, yeah. Wouldn't you? 

MATTHEWS: That he has to change his policies for that reason? 

MAHER: No! But I think that he is a centrist. I think people saw him as what they wanted to see him. They saw a liberal, and he was never really that much of a liberal. And to call him a socialist, is completely -- 

CAROL ROTH, CNBC: I don't think that anybody who is in the center or at the right would think that he is a centrist. You might think that, but everybody else doesn't think that. 

MAHER: I don't think that is an insult to say to somebody that he may modulate his policies because he is afraid of all the hate that he sees. 

MATTHEWS: He probably gets reports constantly about threats, though. That must unnerve him. 

Now you might dismiss this as simply Maher being provocative, except there was also this recent post from Andrew Sullivan:

Yes I would love to dismiss what Bill Maher says as mere hyperbole, but just this week we have seen protesters fighting with police right outside the White House while claiming that our President is illegitimate, a Muslim, and a danger to our country.

This conversation gets very contentious and there is a lot of people talking over each other, but I thought it was a very good indication of the problems that Republicans, in this case represented by GOP strategist John Brabender, are having reconciling the numerous moving parts within their party.

It is becoming clearer then ever that the Republican party is under a very aggressive attack by political insurgents and there may be NO WAY for them to survive intact.

I don't know how anybody is not watching politics these days! I swear there is nothing on television to rival the drama, plot twists, and villainous characters that are contained within this struggle for political dominance.

"You can never close a case on what you don't know."

What doesn't he know? He knows full well that the initial idea to provide additional scrutiny to groups seeking a 501 tax exemption came from a conservative Republican in Cincinnati, and he knows that the IRS also used certain keywords to identify liberal groups as well.

The only thing this sleazebag does not seem to know is that his "investigation' has blown up in his face and that he no longer has an ounce of credibility with the American people.

Hardball: Lois Lerner pleaded the 5th during the House IRS probe because she had no other choice.

Marcus Owens, who held Lerner's job from 1990 to 2001. reports that since she had been accused of lying by members of Congress and there is talk of a criminal investigation that she had no choice but to refuse to answer the questions before Congress.

This was the best explanation that I saw yesterday for her choice.

Personally I just liked it because is damn near made the Republicans on the committee's heads explode.

Sarah Palin made it into yesterday's Hardball Sideshow along with Larry "Wide Stance" Craig. Seems like a fitting place for her.

I guess it would be a waste of time to inform Palin that Mayor Bloomberg is really battling the drink manufacturers who create these bladder bursting, sugar infused, contributors to childhood obesity,  and not the people are so easily duped into purchasing them.

You would think a woman planning to write a fitness book would be supportive of such a measure.

Oh that's right, now she is writing about the "War on Christmas" instead.

Personally I doubt she knows any more about that topic, than she did about fitness.

Oh, and by the way, the government was never not going to "stay out" of Palin's refrigerator. This law was for New York only, a place that even Sarah Palin cannot see from Alaska, and it had to do with the sale of large servings of sugary drinks in restaurants, stadiums, and other eating establishments, not what was stored in a private refrigerator.

So the tweet is, as usual, ridiculous.

Apparently this report is rather convoluted but essentially it dispels the notion that the Ambassador's request for additional security measures was ignored, refutes that there was more that could have been done after the attack began to protect him, and lays most of the responsibility for the “grossly inadequate” security arrangements solely at the feet of the State Department. Which has resulted in the resignation of three officials.

I am sure that the Right Wing will do their utmost to find something damning to use against the President and Hillary Clinton in the report but as of right now it appears their talking points lack credibility and will ultimately fall on deaf ears.

"Blood is on the hands of Congress and the Connecticut legislators who voted to ban guns from all schools in Connecticut." Believe it or not, this sick POS is serious!

You this is such shameful thing to say and such an incredibly ridiculous argument to make, that I almost don't feel that it deserves any attention. Except that this guy is not alone, he is part of a very scary and clearly well armed group of people who literally believe that the more guns we have as a society the safer we will be.

And did you hear Matthews get this lunatic to admit that the REAL purpose behind these 2nd Amendment types fixation on having weapons, is NOT personal safety, but rather to make sure they are readily available should they feel the need to fight against their own government?

They aren't worried about protecting themselves against criminals, they are planning the overthrow of the government! 

You know that is exactly the same mindset shared by Schaeffer Cox, and the impetus for his threatening of local judges and law enforcement officials, which ultimately saw him thrown into Federal prison.

Chris Matthews tries to get surrogate for Koch Brothers to admit he works for them. He won't.

God I loved watching this yesterday!

The guys absolutely REFUSES to admit who bankrolls Americans for Prosperity even though we ALL know that the Koch Brothers pay these guys to work on their behalf in Michigan to help bust up unions.

I am not always a huge Chris Matthews fan, as I have stated before, but damn did I enjoy watching this slimy little worm squirm!

Oh that one REALLY got under the Grizzled Mama's skin.  As a matter of act she has mentioned it in anger numerous times since.

So yes the idea of Judd, a woman with more talent in her little finger than Sarah Palin has in her entire body, taking on "Little Bitch" McConnell and eventually walking away with his lunch money AND his Senate seat, is my idea of some very serious karmic justice.

And don't think Judd is just a pretty face (Though beautiful would be more like it.) she has the chops to talk policy and speak up for her beliefs as well. Just take a look at her canvassing for Obama last month. (Oh, and did I mention she is a HUGE Obama supporter?)

Yeah, like I said, this would be an extremely entertaining and exciting race to watch. Let's hope we get the opportunity.

I have to say that I was a little disappointed in how much of the Palin mythology even Jay Roach buys into.

Her high poll numbers, her basketball skills, her success with the oil companies, are pretty much all bullshit, and yet even critics are simply not aware of how hard she worked to create this false image of herself.

Just think of how much MORE devastating the HBO movie would have been if they had known the REAL truth.
