We know that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin can hunt, and even field-dress a moose, but how will she take to poachers on her book sales? Start-up publisher OR Books has announced plans to publish Going Rouge: Sarah Palin An American Nightmare, a collection of essays about the maverick Republican with a title — and cover design — remarkably similar to Palin’s upcoming memoir. What’s more, OR’s paperback tome will be released on Nov. 17, the same day that Palin’s own Going Rogue: An American Life hits shelves — and one day after Palin’s just-announced, first-ever appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s show.
Now THIS is hysterical! I could not have done a better job myself.
I hope Rupert Murdoch is happy with his choice to put his eggs in the Sarah Palin basket. (No I did NOT mean it that way!)
He should have been warned off by the last old man who believed that having Palin on his team would be a good thing.
Update: You can buy the book here. I suggest that we all do so. after all we need to make sure that those who tell the truth about the Quitter-in-Chief make more money than those that tell lies. You know, like Sarah herself.
By the way here is a list of the contributors. How many names do YOU recognize?
Max Blumenthal, Joe Conason, Eve Ensler, Michelle Goldberg, Jane Hamsher, Christopher Hayes, Jim Hightower, Linda Hirshman, Naomi Klein, Dahlia Lithwick, Amanda Marcotte, Shannyn Moore, Jeanne Devon, John Nichols, Katha Pollitt, Hanna Rosin, Matt Taibbi, Michael Tomasky, Rebecca Traister, Katrina vanden Heuvel, Jessica Valenti, Patricia Williams, JoAnn Wypijewski and Gary Younge.
OMG, I am considering this an early Christmas present! Don't cha love that freedom of speech thing that our brave men and women fight for everyday, to include freedom to publish books. There too, also. I am really beginning to enjoy this.
ReplyDeleteGoing Rouge: Sarah Palin An American Nightmare
ReplyDeleteSmart timing.
That is TOO Funny! The concept is perfect, like a Jerry Seinfeld "Bizzaro Jerry" episode where everything is opposite. I can't bring myself to spend money on "Going Rogue", but I may splurge and buy the paperback "Going Rouge".
ReplyDeleteBTW, you mentioned that "we know that Sarah can hunt and field dress a moose", but after Levi's VF interview, I don't think she does either. I think she wants us to believe that she can hunt and dress a moose, but I think that's just another falsehood of hers.
Priceless! LOL now that is a book I would buy
ReplyDeleteBwhahahahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteHilarious cover! I hope they wind up side by side in all the bookstores.
ReplyDeleteoh my-this is just too too funny! Now this is teh book i'm really tempted to buy!
ReplyDelete-ayerishgrl
Gryphen,
ReplyDeleteLOL!! I will be buying the snark book, "Going Rouge"!
Just a note that Amazon - as of yesterday - was selling Palin's book for $9.99 OR 69% OFF the original price! But, it has gone up on their best seller list to #2, with an arrow "up".
ReplyDeleteSo, it's ALREADY in the "remainder bin".....
This book is a compilation of articles by some very good writers and columnists, but who's going to know about it when it isn't even sold at Amazon, much less the B&N store chain?
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely hilarious. I can't wait. Do you know anything about the author(s) of the essays?
ReplyDeleteNow. THAT book I will buy!
ReplyDeleteWhat I would love is the spoof books selling for a much higher price than Palin's book.
ReplyDeleteLove the cover. Sarah's book has a blue sky with light clouds, Rouge has dark sky & lightening. Too funny.
ReplyDeleteOoops, make the Amazon price of Palin's book, $9.00, NOT $9.99!
ReplyDeleteToo bad the other book will only be sold through the publisher, O/R Books. Or maybe they will do a deal with Amazon. I'm sure it would be a best-seller...
I will be on the look-out for the paperbacck
ReplyDeleteLaura, I am familiar with many of the authors. Jim Hightower has been fighting for the common man on TV in Austin, and in his books and columns, for many years. Matt Taibbi is a young Rolling Stone writer who has been making quite a name for himself lately. He covered the 2008 campaign for and appears periodically on Bill Maher's show. Kristina vanden Heuval is a columnist who appears on the TV talk shows periodically. Naomi Klein has written several excellent books, beginning with No Logo, and most recently, The Shock Doctrine. Max Blumenthal is the author of Republican Gomorrah.
ReplyDeleteShannyn Moore and Jeanne Dixon (The Mudflats) have contibuted essays as well. This should be good!
ReplyDeleteI think we should all pre-order the "nightmare" book -wonder how the sales will compare?
ReplyDeleteFloyd: I also wonder about how many copies they will sell without at least being on Amazon. But, I would guess that with such amazing contributors and two publishers who seem to know what they are doing, they'll reach their audience.
ReplyDeleteStill, it would be amazing to see this book displayed at every B&N right next to Sarah's.
Read Andrew Halcro today ... another book! This time a tell all by "the Hatchet Man", Frank Bailey - a former Palin insider!
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolute hoot! I might just have to spring for a first edition copy.
ReplyDeleteI know that it will be cleverly written. Jim Hightower, one of the contributors, has had at least one New York Times Bestseller: THIEVES IN HIGH PLACES..he also wrote LET'S STOP BEATING AROUND THE BUSH. (sorry I have no way to underline titles) He certainly sees things from an amusing perspective and has a clever way of wrapping words around the truth. He alone, no doubt, will do enough chawin' and spittin' out to keep me entertained.
If B & N were to receive enough requests, would they stock this or any book? or at least order individual copies upon request? Might it be rather interesting if B & N started receiving pre-order requests for Mr. Hightower, etals' book?
Once they are out, go to your local book vendor and mix them up alternation the 2 titles. Hope they're are the same price, too! Ha!
ReplyDeleteBones AK: it's ONLY available in paperback, so you won't have to wait
ReplyDeleteI am going to buy "Going Rouge: Sarah Paln An American Nightmare" for sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gryphen, for the info!
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow or where can we buy the "nightmare" book - I want to buy for sure! I will NOT put money in her pocket buying her version...
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely too good to miss..
ReplyDelete$arah better get a big girl britches on...Think it's going to get worse for her...LOL
This is priceless. I think we should all call Barnes and Noble and request the book. At least this one will be worth reading and be above a primer level in writing style.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gryphen. Can we all pre-order this book on Amazon or wherever to bring the sales rating up, like the Palin Crazies did. I'm sure Title Wave will be getting calls about it. Don't you just love it. Couldn't happen at a better time. Maybe Ophra could have the publisher on the show with Palin.
ReplyDeleteSo many books coming out...things do not seem to be going too well for the Queen of Alaska, finally a little backlash.
ReplyDeleteMy only question is:
ReplyDeleteWhere does that leave Levi's book?
wow that's some good thinking. her audience is so vacant that they will probably buy the wrong book - sheer marketing genius! taking advantage of the idiot palin supporters. damn my hat's off to them.
ReplyDeleteHi Group,
ReplyDeleteI would think that if Amazon or B&N get enough requests they would carry it. I was part of a group of printmakers who self published a book on 9/11 and even though it was self published it was quickly listed on Amazon and Barnes & Noble but not Borders. With such appealing writers this spoof should do well! I'm sure BuzzFlash will promote it along with other sites like that.
Frank Baily, her ex-aide, is writing a book about he was her "hatchet man."
ReplyDeleteThat should be fun.
Maybe she will get Harper Collins to buy it and kill it.
I just wonder how many of her illiterate following will erroneously buy the wrong tome.
ReplyDeleteOh but for the lack of an education.
LMAO!!!!!
A suggestion for Gryphen: I've been reading suggestions at Bree Palin's site, hoping that you will lead the protest outside Harpo studios for Sarah's appearance on Oprah.
ReplyDeleteHere's a better idea, and I suggest that you brain storm it with your fellow Alaska bloggers. A couple of years ago, the Chicago Tribune ran a half page article about how hard it was (and is) to get tickets to a taping of Oprah's show. She usually tapes a day or two ahead of the air date. Oprah does not leave anything to chance, such as a live performance gone bad. So, we don't the know the actual taping date, but I think they will tape a few days before the air date of Nov.16.
Although scoring a ticket to an Oprah Show has the same chance as winning the lottery, there is another way to get on the show. A week or so before a particular show, the Oprah website will post the topic, let's just say caring for a disabled child while trying to maintain a normal household. People who have particular expertise write into the website, proposing a question that they would like to ask, or offering their professional expertise as an addition to the topic. Or, they describe their family circumstance and ask to be included in the audience to offer an anecdote, comment or ask a question. That person may only be on camera for a few minutes to react, question or nod approval. Or, they may be included in the topic.
Please know that Oprah (and staff) have total control of these selected participants. They may even be given some kind of drill ahead of time. But the person who wrote the article claimed to have secured a place in the audience knowing something about a disability, about prayer, and dozens of other topics that she knew nothing at all about.
Here are a half dozen Alaska bloggers (and a few more) who were included in an important chapter of that book (Off the Bus???). Who has more expertise in terms of vetting Sarah, supplying a running page of information daily, and what's more, some of you are telegenic and articulate. (Since I haven't seen all of you on TV, that statement is limited to the few that I have seen). You all do have expertise, questions and anecdotes, and each can offer some lively insight to that Rogue Governor's biography.
Let's add the best part. If the Oprah people want to include some of you in the show, they probably pay the airfare, hotel and other expenses. Rather than wait for the week before the show, I suggest that each and every one of you write right now, stating a damned good reason why you should be included in the audience to ask Sarah an important question or offer an important comment. I am suggesting co-ordinating your statements to avoid duplication and unnecessary repetition. Start now, and follow up next week, the clock is ticking. And as they say when you buy your lottery ticket, good luck, you could be a winner!
An added bonus. Just imagine the look on Sarah's face as you react to her tossed word salad! I thik that your presence alone would unnerve her.

Such karma circles around Palin, who just barely gets her "Mein Kamph" out on the shelves, and wouldn't you know it, a Doppelganger shows up!
ReplyDeleteThe cover's dark stormy skies are an amusing counterpoint and having Matt Taibbi alone in the book makes it a good read. I just recommended yesterday on Bree Palin's site his "The Great Derangement: A Terrifying True Story of War, Politics, and Religion." In it he is undercover in a big mega heartland crazy making church in Denver I think and reports on how they pretend to speak in tongues, have devils cast out of them, act fake all the time, etc... is at turns hilarious, sickening and frightening. It's been out long enough to be in the libraries. I had no idea he'd done an essay on Palin but it is bound to be excellent. And AKM and Shannyn are in there? That's fantastic!
Is Sarah Palin's book about putting on makeup. Going rouge? Isn't that makeup?
ReplyDeleteThis won't be just 'snark'. These are well-respected and well-spoken political analysts.
ReplyDeleteAnd the tsunami builds; can you Alaska folks explain the significance of Frank Bailey? what kind of 'aide' was he?
Thank you all.
I try and sign off and finish chores, and then I see this at my HuffPo widget on my home page:

After Frank Bailey, I'm waiting for Walt Monegan's book - "Lovable Rogue".
ReplyDeleteAnon 4:34 - That explains so much . . .
ReplyDeleteGryphen, I cannot paste anything here but you have to check out the article on Huffpo by Glynnis MacNicol under the Media tab. It's discussing babygate.
ReplyDeleteLady Rose, long time no see! nice to have you pop up again.
ReplyDeleteI just wish Ann Richards or Molly Ivins were still alive to comment on Sarah.
ReplyDeleteThose two ladies knew how to field dress a moose. Their pens were waaaaay sharper than Sarah's skinning knife.
Gryphen, thanks for the link to the publisher and the Paypal option. I've ordered the book and I assume it will be mailed out on publication date.
ReplyDeleteI also have a sneaking suspicion that at this point, "Going Rouge" might be a print-to-order book, meaning they only print enough to fulfill orders. Maybe if they get so many "orders" that they'll print additional copies which will then be listed on Amazon.
I just went online and pre-ordered the ebook for Going Rouge, For $9.00, download it and put it on a disc, and waalaa. Perfect. I can read it and give it as a gift to someone too. With an ebook, I can even add pictures to it, to give it a bit more realism. Thanks for the link peoples.
ReplyDeleteGood catch up archived article to prepare readers for the background on Frank Bailey's 'tell all' book that apparently will come out in three months regarding his role in Troopergate. . .
