From the Missoula Editor:
First: This blogpost is not about politics.
Second: Contrary to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s warning to the standing-room-only crowd at this afternoon’s Teen Challenge fundraiser in Missoula, the media did not “sneak in” to her speech. We were not there as “moles,” in her words.
Third: I only mention this because that sort of talk – “Be careful. There may be some media that sneaked into the room.” – is intended to create distrust of the professional journalists in this city and all across the country who take their jobs very seriously and work hard to accurately and fairly report the news.
Fourth: So here is how the Missoulian and other media came to attend Sarah Palin’s talk.
Months ago, when the fundraiser was announced, we let the folks at Teen Challenge know we wanted to cover the former governor’s speech. Teen Challenge established guidelines for how many reporters and photographers could attend, and this newspaper and other media submitted the names and credentials of the journalists who would be representing us.
Reporter Betsy Cohen and photographer Linda Thompson were identified as the Missoulian’s representatives, and were there on Sunday to document Palin’s speech.
Last week, they picked up a credential packet from Teen Challenge. They showed I.D. to pick up the packet. They were given green wristbands and were told to put them on their left wrists. They checked in at the door on Sunday, showed their wristbands and were placed in one corner of the room – and told not to move.
They were very visible, very public, very respectful and professional.
They didn’t sneak in or out. They smiled. They thanked their hosts. And they are back at the office now writing a story and processing photos and video, for posting later tonight on Missoulian.com and publication in Monday’s Missoulian.
For all to see and hear and read.
Sherry Devlin
Tagged with green identifying bracelets and told NOT to move? That is EXACTLY how Sarah Palin would like ALL people who might take a critical look at her speeches to be treated. Free speech in Palin's worldview is only allowed when they fawn over her and agree with every moose turd that falls from her mouth.
I am almost surprised they did not march all of the reporters into the "showers" after the speech.
By the way if you click here you can see the video report that was broadcast after the event. And here is how local televison station KPAX reported the event. They both seemed pretty "fair and balanced" to me.
Also do not forget to click the link at the top for the Missoula Editor and read the comments. They are a hoot!
Yo Gryphen, the name of the newspaper is The Missoulian not the Missoula. Missoula is the name of the city. I grew up in Montana, & we got this newspaper.

On the Daily show last night they had the Jesus and Muhamad debate. Check out the green wrist band with WWMD. Very funny.
ReplyDeleteAh, I see. The Missoula Editor is the person who edits news about Missoula specifically that appears in The Missoulian.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe she went to Missoula. It's hugely, hugely liberal. I'm sure the smell of patchouli and pot didn't sit well with her. Ironically, it's home to the University of Montana. Their mascot is the grizzly.
ReplyDeleteShe likes to make unnecessary attack on people, making them some kind of creepy sneaks that are out there to get her. I am glad that someone is fighting back.
ReplyDeleteOT: I was looking for the multiple Trig pictures and came across this LA Times story from last year. It caught my eye that the Trig in the picture within simply doesn't look like any Trig that we have seen, especially this ear and hair.
I hope to find time to write about this later today or tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThe theme of her demonizing the free press goes back so far, the bread crumbs by the trail were eaten by trash-seeking birds long ago. But she keeps feeding the world fresh crumbs.
Palin sunk to a new low calling journalists "moles". She is enraged when the lies she tells are reported exposing her contradictions and hypocrisy.
ReplyDeleteShe is dependent on projection.

ReplyDeleteIf Palin wants to tell the faithful that the Statue of liberty was intended as a memento to warn us about future Socialism, she'd better not have any journalists present.
ReplyDeleteMudflats Chats – Joe McGinnisss (Part 1)
ReplyDelete...Now, I have a narrower focus. In fact my focus is on somebody who has now decided that Alaska doesn’t really matter any more. It certainly doesn’t matter to her.
Mudflats: And yet now, this person has come to define Alaska to the Lower 48, which is ironic I guess…
McGinniss: Well, yeah. It’s ironic in that she put Alaska on the national map, and then she took herself out of Alaska. And she still uses all these Alaska metaphors in her talks, but she has really nothing to do with life in Alaska today and she spends as much time as possible out of the state because, you know, her goal is pretty clear. It’s Washington, not Juneau.

The business about not moving is not unusual. It's called the press section. The upside is that cretins don't mess with the camera equipment, or take out their agressions on the ink-stained scribes. Most GOOD reporters prefer working the crowd alone, quietly and respectfully. If forced into a pen, they know not to eat the goodies or report from only that angle
ReplyDeleteShushannah Walshe spoke exclusively to Palin's parents; friends who recount her nasty streak; and explores how life has dramatically changed for her.
ReplyDeleteIn the piece, The Daily Beast:
• Talks to Sarah Palin’s parents, Chuck and Sally Heath, about whether she'll run
• Shows how her life in Wasilla has changed from a mom about town to rarely seen Republican rock star (she drives a Jetta to avoid being spotted and has Bristol do the shopping!)
• Speaks to Palin foes and former allies about a “mean streak” that spares no one; one describes her style as “taking a nuclear bomb when a fly swatter would have dealt with the issue.”
• Reveals her ambitions for the White House even in her early Wasilla days—before she was McCain’s VP.
• Has new details about her upcoming reality show on TLC, Sarah Palin’s Alaska (think caribou hunting, gold-mining, and dog-mushing)
• Plus, friends explain why she gave up the governorship citing the lure of money as much as the growing number of ethics complaints compiled by detractors

ReplyDeleteBill Maher take on Palin:
http://www.monstersandcritics.com/smallscreen/news/article_1584473.php/Bill-Maher-full-interview-on-Leno-takes-on-Palin-Gibson-religious-dogma
Missoula is a liberal town and I am very upset that there weren't protesters and lots of them there to meet her. If Missoula will let her waltz into their town and not a word we are doomed.
ReplyDeleteYah know I think we all have a sense of our own "freak flag". Me thinks Sarah somehow has no sense of when she has opened her mouth and inserted her foot. I think it's high time someone started raising these flags cause Sarah needs a visual.... I do like the "worst governor ever" banner idea.
ReplyDeleteA kudos to the Newspaper and reporters ....go get her! I wonder if the reporters paid a fee to attend?
Sarah Palin is a paranoid idiot. Sounds like a meth addict.
ReplyDeleteIt's so ironic:
ReplyDeletePalin doesn't trust the media because they want to hold her accountable for her lies and divisive rhetoric.
Whereas I don't trust the media because they won't hold her accountable for her lies and divisive rhetoric.
Kudos to the Missoula editor , Sherry Devlin.
Great comment from Missoula Editor, overwhelmingly anti-Paylin. Maybe there's hope after all.
ReplyDeleteSarah did not learn one thing from John McCain. McCain was loved by the media because he was accessible. He came to the press section, joked with the reporters and clearly had a very good relationship with them....until he the campaign heated up in 2008.
ReplyDeleteJohn McCain showed the tensions of being burdened with Sarah and having to explain her. His interview with her at his side was tense, two people on a bad date. The economy tanked and McCain canceled his appearance on the Letterman show, lying that he had to fly back to Washington. He was caught getting made up for his interview with Couric. When the press questioned him, he closed them off, became angry and lost his good relationship with them.
Sarah proved that she couldn't follow any of the directions offered by the McCain campaign, and she surely didn't see what happened to McCain as the press turned against him. Then, it became easy to report that McCain wandered around the stage during a debate looking like a lost puppy. McCain's famous temper was reported. The moral of the story is that it does not make good sense to piss off the media.
Why is Palin so afraid to speak with the media in attendance, especially at something like a Teen Challenge fundraiser?? She must really have a fear of looking like an idiot. Does she think she will be the only president in US history to exclude the media everytime she speaks??
ReplyDeleteOops, I meant "comments"
ReplyDeleteAs long as there is bobble-headed adoration coming at her, Sarah is able to reflect it back in a way that uplifts her and her fans's spirits.
ReplyDeleteBut, don't put Sarah on her own. If you do, she completely breaks down. She's knows she's a nothing without her fans, and she's scared to death to let anyone see it. She realizes there is no "Sarah" when she's on her own because she can't exist without the shining light of adoration. Without it, she's an insignificant, shallow, ignorant, zombie.
Sarah needs plentiful backup to face the media (like ensuring friendly interviewers and audiences, answering pre-arranged questions, replacing asked questions with different ones she's practiced answering, etc.). Sarah cannot and will not face the media alone if she thinks the outcome could be the least bit unfavorable toward her.
If she decides to run in 2012, she has no option but to carefully redefine how the media will interface with her as a candidate. Letting the media do its job the way it does now will surely reveal her foolishness and nothingness to the world.
When someone sends out a tweet or a Facebook update, it's not "news" until a "news organization" decides it is. No one has ever confirmed that a single thing written on Sarah Palin's Facebook page is an authentic statement from Sarah Palin. Think about that! They RELIABLY become news.
ReplyDeleteWow, being called "moles" will piss off the media. The same media that meekly watch Sarah Palin waltz through a national campaign with NO press conferences and comically limited interviews is going to get all riled up and start doing their jobs because of the "moles" crack?
ReplyDeleteI don't think so.
Maybe if Sarah Palin says she has reporter blood under her fingernails, the media will actually do their d... job.
Anon 4:06 Your comments hit a root of narcissim Palin has.
ReplyDeleteAside from the lure of money and Palin quitting to escape scruitiny regarding her leadership abilities as Governor formerly little known to the nation IMO she wanted a head start to destroy the credibility of her opponent, Obama, and the media.
IMO her destruction campaign of the media has taken root and started to thrive with her constant spewing poison to her fans. Her fans and the inclusion of Tea Party extremists as their queen she pursued despite denying that (lying) has increassed in numbers. It's like a wild fire that spreads of increasing numbers of people who won't believe anyone but Sarah.
It is a catch-22 for the media has standards to report on a potential candidate and when they do Palin demonizes them as liars. She is a convincing liar and has an advantage: no conscience and as a female and mom people are more prone to doubt she'd lie to them.
It's like how she smeared and insulted the college kids who found pieces of her contract and reported on it. She called them dumpster divers to discredit their information on her, aren't they the ones who discovered her "bendy straws" fetish?
ReplyDeleteShe is making enemies everywhere she goes as people see her true colors. The media needs to boycott coverage of her, which would dimish her power greatly because they've been a major source in elevating her presence on the national level and they've helped created a monster. Now they need to stop covering her tweets, FB posts, kids crap, etc and let her get thrown under the bus by Fox when they tire of her.
Palin's trying to discredit the media as lamestream so when the shit really hits the fan her dopey fans won't believe anything bad about her. Pretty pathetic Palin.
ReplyDeleteBill Clinton was in Columbus tonight campaigning for my wonderful governor Ted Strickland. Yeah!
