Yale picks Christine O'Donnell's "I'm not a witch" as top quote of the year.

Just in case you have been living in a cave, here is the political ad  that contains the unbelievably bizarre quote.

As much as I hate to give O'Donnell any credit, I have to admit THIS was indeed the most memorable, and completely out of left field quote of the entire campaign season. Not that I think O'Donnell should be exactly pleased with this "honor" of course.  But considering her somewhat questionable IQ I imagine she will be.

Here are the rest of the top ten contenders, courtesy of the AP:

1. (TIE) "I'm not a witch." Christine O'Donnell, television advertisement, Oct. 4.

1. (TIE) "I'd like my life back." Tony Hayward, comment to reporters, May 30.

3. "If you touch my junk, I'm gonna have you arrested." airline passenger John Tyner, remark to Transportation Security Administration worker at San Diego airport, Nov. 13, 2010

4. "Don't retreat. Instead — reload!" Sarah Palin, Tweet, March 23.

5. "Chi! Chi! Chi! Le! Le! Le! Los mineros de Chile!" Chant at Chilean mine rescue, Oct. 13.

6. "I hope that's not where we're going, but you know, if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies. They're saying: My goodness, what can we do to turn this country around?" Sharron Angle, radio interview in January.

7. "We have to pass the (health care) bill so you can find out what is in it." Nancy Pelosi, speech to National Association of Counties, March 9.

8. "I'm going to take my talents to South Beach." LeBron James, television broadcast, July 8.

9. "You're telling me that the separation of church and state is found in the First Amendment?" Christine O'Donnell, Delaware senatorial debate, Oct. 19. (The Associated Press reported the quote: "So you're telling me that the separation of church and state, the phrase 'separation of church and state,' is in the First Amendment?")

10. "They should never have put me with that woman. ... She was just a sort of bigoted woman who said she used to be Labour." Gordon Brown, comments about a voter he met while campaigning for British general election, Apr. 28.

Personally I am just grateful that Palin was not at the top of the list in this category like she was in the Word of the Year category, which she "won" by being too stupid to pronounce the word "repudiate" correctly.

Jesus isn't ANYBODY getting accolades for doing something intelligent anymore?

All I know is I am no longer going to click on stories about Palin unless I am pretty sure they are not just puking up what she writes, and I am not going to watch any programs like Chris Mathews who has on a so called journalist from Time Magazine who interviewed Palin via Email. OMG.

  3. It amuses me that she had to speak really, really slow so that her followers could keep up with her.

"I'm not a witch" (long pause)
    *snap snap*
"Still with me? Okay good. I'm not a witch........... I'm you............ none of us are perfect.........."
    *snap snap*
"Hey, you in the back! Focus. See me up here? Good? Okay. I'm not a witch......... I will go to Washington and do what you would do."

  4. They forgot this'un: "You know, before we all started having health care, in the olden days our grandparents, they would bring a chicken to the doctor, they would say I’ll paint your house. I mean, that’s the old days of what people would do to get health care with your doctors. Doctors are very sympathetic people. I’m not backing down from that system."

The dumbing down started with Reagan, continued with George Herbert Bush, lapsed during the Clinton administration, then resumed and thrived with George W. Bush.

Obviously, the "anyone can be President" became equated with low IQ over the decades as evidenced by how Sarah Palin embraced the "he was just an actor" appeal of Reagan. I agree - but at least of the bunch (Reagan, GHB, GWB and Sarah Palin) at least Reagan pretended to value intelligence.

Since 2000, in particular, we have re-entered the anti-intellectual movement prominent in some decades of the 19th and 20th centuries. Our people seemingly get taken in by the cult of celebrity, the "average" man-on-the-street appeal, or the "just folks" appeal because it is so non-threatening to their own sense of self.

For others of us, this is indeed a real threat to the welfare of our country. That's why we jumped at the chance to vote for President Obama and why we so appalled by the Tea Party.

Ignorance is one thing, but stupidity quite another. You can learn and overcome ignorance, but you can never fix stupid.

That's how I would categorize people such as Christine and Sarah - stupid. Cunning, yes. Manipulative, without a doubt. But smart - no, just plain stupid and proud of it.

You can tell TLC has their head up her butt. My area played 6 hrs of SPA Saturday night and tonight is 3 more hrs. Of course only 1 hr tonight is anything new. Then another 3 hrs. of repeats at midnight. And repeats sometime through the week too.

Do they film anything else on TLC?? Doesn't appear so.

You can sure call it overexposure.

Keith Olbermann mentioned that the numbers are added up to make the ratings - now I can see how they get the millions as the bots would watch and rewatch it - Duhhhhh!!!!

LOL- I forgot about the Sue Lowden quote. Gosh, that should have been in the top three.

Oh, and while we are the lack of intelligence line - here's a link about our Sister Sarah that underscores why she fits the category so well. I particularly got a kick out of the frostbite-resistant skin comic at the end.
Hadn't heard of that comic book venture before. Must be popular with the old GOP/Tea Party guys, though.

Have Americans dumbed down in what is important to them or is it just the emphasis of crap the media pushes on us daily? The latest of which has been coverage of the idiot being in Haiti 'for the good of their people' - which is complete bullshit! Does anyone ever read, learn, or question anymore? I so fear for our nation when I see the likes of Palin and others gaining constant headlines.

  9. Anonymous4:25 PM

Accolades for intelligence? Obviously you've never heard the Arrogant Worms song "History is Made By Stupid People."

  10. Anonymous4:50 PM

Lauren @ 2:51 - she seemed more under the influence to me. Like a drunk girl trying to speak without slurring.

Palin didn't get no. 1, but by God, she had her Blackberried stained fingers in a lot of those crazy pies.

Which goes to show, you don't have to have good intentions, intellect, class or a servants heart to influence things.

  11. Anonymous7:34 PM

I always thought the "I'm you" line was her most laughable gesture.

    Now I'm masturbate.

  12. Anonymous3:13 AM

Some perspective here..."The bitch set me up." Marion Barry. My all time favorite!

  13. Anonymous5:26 AM

anon4:25 I love the Arrogant Worms.

Well, media is the problem here, too.

They'll take a stupid remark and run it around the clock and across all channels. Obama hasn't risen to the "Ask not" or "I have a dream" level yet, but he has spoken well. The lines aren't remembered because the media hasn't repeated them often enough to drum into the average numskull.

We've had scientists, economists, and other scholars having "Eureka!" moments, but they barely make a news cycle much less swamp it for weeks.

I hadn't heard that Chilean quote before... because I don't have TV.

Americans are probably not that much more stupid than they were a couple of decades ago, but if the only programs airing are "reality" TV, the impression taken away is that real people have a single threadbare synapse among them.

The Darwin factor is at play here....

Supposedly, the dumber you are and the spewing out of your pie hole proves you are truly as smart as a bag of acorns, you're in,,,,

I got a list of a LOT more folks to go on the list...

Don't feed the trolls!
It just goes directly to their thighs.
