Obama starts his reelection campaign. Gee I wonder which GOP candidate he gets to crush this time?

From the Obama Diary:

Today, we are filing papers to launch our 2012 campaign.

We’re doing this now because the politics we believe in does not start with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you — with people organizing block-by-block, talking to neighbors, co-workers, and friends. And that kind of campaign takes time to build.

So even though I’m focused on the job you elected me to do, and the race may not reach full speed for a year or more, the work of laying the foundation for our campaign must start today.

So with that the 2012 campaign season begins.

But what of the Republican contenders?  As of right now not one Republican has declared his candidacy for 2012.

One might almost think they were frightened.

Currently the GOP cannot even agree on a front runner amongst themselves.

At the CPAC convention Ron Paul ran away with 30% of the vote, while Mitt Romney came in a distant second at 23%. Yet Saturday's CNN poll in South Carolina found Mike Huckabee winning handily:

Huckabee, who has shown no signs of mounting a repeat presidential bid in the state, nevertheless won the vote with 23 percent of the 152 ballots cast, local GOP officials told CNN. He was followed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who captured 11 percent of the vote. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann finished third with 10 percent.

So even though he has no intention of running Huckabee is still the BEST the people of South Carolina believe the Republicans have to offer?  Ouch, that has to hurt those that are actually serious about taking Obama on in this next go around.

But wait, who is missing from this discussion?

Where is that Teabagging superstar herself, Sarah "Mama Grizzly" Palin?

First let's check that CPAC poll again:

Also among the 15 names on the ballot were former Gov. Gary Johnson of New Mexico (6 percent); Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey (6 percent); former Speaker Newt Gingrich (5 percent); former Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota (4 percent); Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota (4 percent); Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana (4 percent); former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska (3 percent); Herman Cain of Georgia, former talk radio host and former chief executive of Godfather Pizza (2 percent); former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas (2 percent); former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania (2 percent); Sen. John Thune of South Dakota (2 percent); former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah (1 percent); and Gov. Haley Barbour of Mississippi (1 percent).

Wow, 3%!  That will certainly slap the lipstick right off of your pitbull, won't it?

How about the CNN poll:

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney netted 8 percent to finish fourth. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and reality television star Donald Trump tied for fifth, with 7 percent.

Also appearing on the ballot, in alphabetical order, were Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, former United Nations ambassador John Bolton, former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Texas Rep. Ron Paul and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.  (I made her name bigger so you all could find her in the crowd.)

Holy crap!  Apparently that final group did not even manage to break five percent. Which means that is very probable that Palin only polled at around 3% this time as well.

So let's see if we have this straight.  President Obama quietly goes about doing the job that he was elected to do, and now appears to be virtually unbeatable in 2012.  And yet the potential Republican candidate who has been the MOST critical, and who has attacked our President every chance she gets, cannot even break out of the single digits within her own party?

Well I guess I have to ask, don't I?

"Hey Sarah!  How is that lying bitchy thing working out for ya?"

Yes, the GOP competition is deplorable; Obama's biggest enemy may be voter complacency. We cannot let this happen. Get involved, and VOTE! In the 2010 mid-terms Democrats were either asleep or impatient and not satisfied that President Obama didn't have a magic wand, and look at what happened. Now states like Wisconsin have had their wake up call. If the recalls are successful, it will be good in the long run that the diabolical plan of the Kochtopus was exposed, but pretty risky to have let that happened in the first place.

  4. Well I guess the Republican party isn't nearly as delusional as $arah and her trusty sidekick Mr. Iron Dawg would hope for them to be. It wasn't that long ago that they were talking confidently with Barbara Walters about a possible run.

Hey, Sarah - how's it feel being at the bottom of the pitt? Couldn't have happened to a more deserving person...after listening to your bullshit for the past two+ years.

  6. I am afraid of getting too confident. No one on the other saw Obama coming until it was too late. The republicans could easily pull a rabbit out of a hat. Hillary Clinton has not announced her platform this election.

I mean that in jest, of course. If she ever wins the democratic primary, she will get my vote.

Pretty soon Mrs Todd Palin will be relegated to the bargain bin of political candidates. She'll be one of those, "also receiving votes" meaning "No chance in Hell, but some boot licker still says he'll vote for her".

I wonder who Mr Todd Palin is voting for next presidential election?

  9. No Republican really wants to run against Obama because he is going to win a second term. Everything Boehner and the obstructionist g NO p are doing is to make Obama look bad, stop him from getting anything done. It has nothing to do with helping the American people or doing the jobs for which they were elected.

I said it before and I'll say it again. The RNC isn't going to throw away a viable 2016 candidate for the 2012 campaign. So if it's Huckabee it's because they don't care if he loses, they have no intention of running him in 2016. That's why I think Huckabee doesn't want it. I wouldn't be surprised if Romney gave it a pass too.

If it's Trump/Cain or Trump/Bachmann or Bachman/Palin it doesn't matter. It's just for show and to put a warm body on the ticket. The RNC will know they'll lose and won't fight very hard to prevent it.

It should be quite the side show. The debates alone will boost network ratings. There might even be a bidding war over either which network airs them or what advertisers get commercial time.

    I'd buy stock in popcorn.

Listening and reading all the Twitters,TV, Blogs etc.
I keep hearing the gop say "cut spending" They don't talk about the REVENUE they cut with tax cuts for the wealthy and Corps who don't pay taxes.
Words are important. Rove and Frank Lutz (or whatever the turds name is), get the talking points out to Fox and co. and they all repeat and all we hear is "cut spending". a follow up question should be, " Why did we allow a cut in revenue with tax cuts for rich?
We've got to keep it up and repeat it to everyone. Increase revenue with fair taxes. Corps don't pay taxes like the "little people".
Banks are sitting on a Trillion $s.
Ins.Comps. have SCOTUS on their side.
Who do we have? Until the country has good regulations to protect consumers again,
we have each other and we must speak up. There are more of us.
No one should be suffering in this great country. The GOP are like terrorists. They are causing so much damage to consumers.
Sarah Pa$lin doesn't give a hoot about her own kids, why would she care about her bots?
She is an American terrorist who is paid to take our eye of the truth.

I am watching Lawrence O'Donnell trying to make sense out of the Tea Baggers who want to shut down the government. They don't remember what happened when Newt pulled that stunt during Clinton's administration. If they turn out to be obstructionists, they are going to make Obama's campaign much easier.

I was watching Fox today and some former somebody was asked my the lovely and hateful Megyn Kelly about the billion dollars Obama is trying to raise for the campaign. "Why," she asks, 'will it take that much money?" And the guest, ever helpful replies that he just doesn't understand. Obama spent 3/4 of a billion last time, and if he's doing such a great job, why wouldn't he be able to win with say, a half bill this time? The third time he said it I turned him off, but I yelled at the TV..."Citizens United and the Koch Brothers, moron!"

I don't understand how someone as astute as you, Gryphen, can state with a straight face that Obama is doing the job he was elected to do. He was elected to effect hope and change. He has done anything but, clinging to and supporting the existing status quo that benefits the wealthy and powerful in this country, at the expense of the middle-class, the poor, and the most needy, at every opportunity. I'm extremely disappointed in Obama. I find it extremely ironic that the group whose interests he looks after the most -- i.e. REPUBICANS -- are the ones who trash him the most.

One thing the teabaggers lack, for all their retro Boston 1775 wear, is a sense of history and knowledge of government. President Obama isn't a dictator, nor even Captain of the USS Enterprise who can say "Make it so." We have a government that is based on compromise and incremental change - healthcasre, DADT repeal, etc.

His style - consensus building is a surer way to win eventual and total reform, without bloodshed or a scorched earth policy. It really is building and winning for the future.
