Do you know how the GOP Presidential candidates are always talking about repealing Obamacare if they get elected? Yeah, you know not so much!

"Did you promise to repeal Obamacare on Day One? Yeah me too! Idiots will believe anything!"
Courtesy of Bloomberg Businessweek:

The Republicans competing for the White House can agree on one thing: They all say they’ll get rid of Barack Obama’s health-care law. Mitt Romney says it will be his first official act. On Day One as President, he’ll issue waivers to all 50 states so they can disregard the law’s requirements, he said in the Oct. 11 GOP debate in New Hampshire. “I also say we have to repeal Obamacare, and I will do that on Day Two.”

No, he won’t. It’s a killer applause line for Republican audiences, but scrapping the Affordable Care Act would not be nearly as straightforward as Romney and his White House rivals make it sound.

Let’s say Romney wins the election. As President, he wouldn’t have the power to issue an executive order abolishing the health-care law. Instead, he hopes to exploit a provision in the existing statute allowing states to seek waivers if they set up health-care programs that provide coverage similar to the federal government’s. Romney says he’ll grant such waivers to every state right away.

It’s not that simple. Under the law, the state waivers don’t take effect until 2017. Romney can issue them early—they just won’t do anything. There is nothing in the statute that would let Romney issue blank-check waivers immediately, says Robert Laszewski, president of Health Policy & Strategy Associates, an insurance industry consulting firm. “You can’t make up the law as you go along.”

Lanhee Chen, Romney’s policy director, says the campaign is trying to figure out if there’s a way to move that date forward or to bypass the law’s requirements before 2017. Even if that’s not possible, Chen says the waivers still have value. “If states got the waivers at the start of the Romney Administration, they would be able to make appropriate plans,” he says. “We believe it’s important to pursue a state-based approach that focuses on health-care costs and gives states the power and the flexibility to do what’s best for their citizens.”

Congress could pass a bill moving up the date of the waivers, but that won’t happen before the election. Senators Scott Brown (R-Mass.) and Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat who has pushed for states to write their own reforms, are trying to shift the effective date of the waivers to 2014. So far the plan hasn’t gone anywhere—and won’t as long as Democrats control the Senate—which means Romney’s chances of delivering on his promise to let states opt out on Day One are essentially zero. Says Joseph Antos, a health policy analyst with the conservative American Enterprise Institute: “It’s going to be a Biblical Day One, which could last several years.”

What? The Republicans are lying to their constituents and making promises they cannot possibly keep.

Shocked!  That's what I am, shocked!

And here's the funny thing, President Obama has known they can't do a damn thing all along. He is just waiting for the general election to rub it in the face of whoever gets stuck being the GOP candidate.

Sucks for you Romney!

    2017 !!! I love it !

And we all know, if GWB had introduced the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Republicans would be lauding it and placing it next to the Declaration of Independence in the National Archives. It would be the best thing since sliced bread.

But......because that "nasty black man" that is our current president introduced it, it is strictly bad, bad, bad.

While we wait, I thought I would post some of the tidbits that MeAgain has shared with us so that you (Bristol) can dispute them line by line, with proof, if you please:

--...it's been nearly a hundred days since you (Bristol) or your mother has clapped eyes on Trig. I hope the guilt of what you allowed her to do to that child eats away at you. I hear Trig open-handed smacked your mother when she tried to get a photo with him in May. And you just gave him to her. Knowing how bad she would treat him.

--Twenty years old, "engaged" twice, pregnant four times, a mother thrice over and a miscarriage.

--(Trig) doesn't have the parental attachment to anyone. He pines for Todd, who genuinely loves him. But Sarah uses Trig as a pawn. Todd offered to care for him instead of Sarah paying someone $7500 a month.

--When Trig smacked Sarah, she went "you little shit," practically hissing.

--(Sarah) has a birth certificate with February instead of April, and it does not have the "right" names. There was never a formal adoption or even custody agreement.

--during Sarah's epic fail of a photo shoot with Trig...she tried to make him wear sunglasses so people couldn't see how bad his eyes are. He chucked the glasses!

--Trig's eyes CAN be operated on but as I understand it the reason for not doing so at this time is that it's SO bad now, Sarah knows Trig's former ophthalmic specialist would tear her UP for letting it get this way.

--She told the doctor that Trig was going to be under the care of "the best specialists" in the L48 but in reality she only said that to explain away why Trig wasn't following the prescribed schedule of therapy or office visits.

--Sarah is desperate to get a good fake (birth certificate) but scared presenting a fake would be her undoing. She has begged CBJ for help with this, but CBJ has definitely had enough with "helping" Sarah and has refused.

--I would not be surprised in the least if her (Sadie's) "Levi and Bristol are definitely not parents to any baby besides Tripp" party line has changed.

And, this pearl, which may explain why you are still here: Right now locals are scared to mention any "extra baby/ies" theory. It seems so far fetched. But there is a reason Bristol starts calling Gryphen a "pervert" who is "obsessed with Trig" whenever anyone dares to bring up the ear issue.

There is a reason Sarah becomes apoplectic when the deformed ear/two babies theory is mentioned. Last year there was an occasion where Todd slept in the car because Sarah was raging against Gryphen so bad. Even when he tried getting away from her in the garage she kept storming in, wanting Todd to join her in her plan to "eviscerate" Gryphen.

Care to provide any information on the above, or shall I go on?

And in another year, more and more Americans will realize what a good thing the Affordable Care Act is, and will see that, once again, the GOP candidate is pandering instead of leading. And won't that be just too damn bad for the GOP? We will regain the House and get rid of some of the GOP and blue dogs in the Senate, and then we can get this country moving again.
Oh, and in Michigan, which felt the recession first, unemployment in my county was 7.5% last quarter, down from 8.9% one year ago! Thins are getting better, and you can bet it wasn't because of anything King Snyder did, although he will try to take credit.

    Good points.

Kind of O/T but when I look at that picture, I have to notice how appropriately dressed Bachmann is..practical shoes, professional suit. I have to think what the Queen of inappropriate would have worn had she ever consented to a real debate.

And, yes, I remember that stupid white military style jacket Bachmann wore at another debate. I think that was after she realized that she was being ignored more and more and was trying to say "look at me too". I will also always remember the "Anderson, Anderson, Anderson" screeches. But in this picture anyway, she looks professional, something that Sarah has never, ever attempted to do.

  6. Reminds me of the debate where Bachmann claimed she would abolish federal taxes immediately....and right afterward she talked about the military.

How does she think that military is funded?!? How about the President's (and CONGRESS') salary?

Btw, I am from Southern Indiana (KKK-land) originally, and I remember plenty of racist talk when I was little. At 40, I can STILL hear subtle racism everywhere, especially when folks like Mitch McConnell, Bachmann, Boehner speak about the President. It's like a secret language I learned in childhood that I can still hear perfectly & understand. I'm sure there are others here who know what I mean.
Btw, McConnell is the WORST and most OBVIOUS by far. He's from my neighbor to the South, so I'm not surprised.

  7. Wicket...it is said Perry suffers from chronic back pain, and takes a lot of painkillers. I think he's even had back surgery.

5:02...Michelle has said herself that her husband picks out and helps her with her clothes...have you seen Marcus? Nuff said...he's a better stylist than therapist.

  8. Wicket, thanks for the link. Drunk, yes, he had to be. That was bizarre. I kept wanting to stop watching, but I couldn't tear myself away.

Great Post. I'll take a corrupt Democrat over a corrupt Republican any day, if that's the only choice. At least even corrupt Democrats lie, but work to get something, anything done for the people.

    Virginia Voter

I heard about his chronic back issues as well. I suffer from the same thing, and never sound nor act like that. A lot of these pain meds amplify the effects of alcohol and I do think he's either imbibeing, or abusing his meds.
Jack Kennedy suffered immense pain and was a great debater and President, so I know it can be done well.

Rick Perry is an insufferable buffon as far as I'm concerned.
