What destroyed Herman Cain's candidacy was not the women, it was Herman Cain.

"Hey I'm not quitting. Herman Cain's no quitter! I am just suspending my campaign. Herman Cain is a suspender."
Courtesy of the Daily Beast:

It’s the end of the line for the hit (for a month anyway) situation comedy The Herman Cain Show—as something worth tuning into, anyway. As the obituaries are rushed to press, most of the experts will chalk the demise up to the candidate’s inexperience and his staff’s ineptitude. It’s not that those things aren’t true, but they miss the real point. The real culprit is Cain’s bottomless vanity, and even though he may no longer be very interesting, there is a lesson in his collapse for all the candidates.

First, on the subject of the Herminator (a nickname he seems to have bestowed on himself, which is always a bad sign). I urge you, when you next find yourself in a bookstore, to pick up a copy of his newish book, This Is Herman Cain!, and flip through it. You need only reach page three to read how he “redefined campaign history” (he may have, but not in the way he means). Then flip ahead to the closing chapter to read how Cain will handle his first 90 days in office. The tone of serene self-adulation leaches so fulsomely out of every page that it practically gets on your hands. Many pundits have assumed that Cain wasn’t really “serious” about his candidacy—that he was just trying to raise his profile, sell some books. But the book, it’s clear from page one, is not the work of man who wasn’t serious about his candidacy. He thought that the presidency was his destiny. Actually, I wouldn’t be shocked if he still thinks it.

I urge you to click the link at the top and read the rest of the article.

And when you are finished tell me if Cain does not seem to be Sarah Palin's chocolate male doppelganger in many important respects.

Like Palin he believes he is destined to be the President.

Like Palin he believes the media is attacking him when they ask him hard questions,

Like Palin he refused to apologize for anything he was accused of doing, and seemed to believe that when the facts came out he would be vindicated even though time and time again the opposite proved true.

And like Palin he said he was getting out of the race to protect his family, and simply could not admit that he had too many skeletons in his closet, and deficiencies as a candidate, to really make a run for the White House.

Really the only major difference between Palin and Cain comes down to pigment, and penis. (Though considering which appendage of Todd's I believe Palin carries around in that purse of hers, perhaps it really only comes down to ONE difference.)

By the way , in case you missed it, here is Herman Cain on SNL this weekend.

It amazes me that so many of the Republican candidates think that God has chosen them to be the next president. Hasn't it crossed their minds that maybe they misunderstood what they heard?

It is hard to understand how anyone would support someone who is so ignorant and so full of himself that he thinks everyone wants him as a leader. His CEO of self is only his ego talking. A better slogan for him is "Vain Cain".

BS...cain was a joke from the start and he knew it and he wanted YOU to know it to.

he never put together a real staff and knew from the get go that a black man would never come close to gaining power in the republican party no matter how extreme right he presented himself.

yes, he was a running joke no doubt laughing afterwards with the likes of the koch brothers about how really simple minded the american people were .

and like palin he showed everyone willing to see how ignorant and full of hate this country is.

cain gained traction only by mouthing the most blatant racist comments we have heard since the KKK grand wizard gave a speech before a lynching.

and THAT is exactly why the people in the republican party loved him.

  5. I thought that Herb used the Sarah Palin Playbook when he decided to enter the presidential race:

1.) Come in out of no where.
2.) Hope that no one vets you. (Worked for Sarah because she came in late; Cain gave people too much time to check him out.)
3.) Use clever sound bytes and phrases.
4.) Appear before partisan crowds and play to their fears.
5.) Have a schtick - like an entertainer.

Cain declared early and participated in the debates, at which he excelled. For a while. Until he went to interviews on real news stations and for newspapers.

Then, the skeletons started to creep out of the closet. He followed the Palin Campaign Plan as long as he could: deny, deny; call them liars; say the libruls are out to get you; and blame the media.

Thank you, Ginger White and all those other "lying" ladies who came forward.

  7. Ginger White is telling her story to The Daily Beast and it is fucking HILARIOUS....

    http://tinyurl.com/7w9nj2k

    Here's my favorite bullet points...

Ginger White, who dealt the death blow to Herman Cain’s campaign by alleging a 13-year relationship, talks to Leslie Bennetts about:

    * how Cain’s ‘arrogance’ persuaded her to go public
    * the time she thought about grocery shopping during sex
    * how Cain thought the ‘man was always right’
    * the time Cain asked her to get rid of her family dog while giving her financial aid
    * why she thinks Cain’s wife Gloria engaged in willful self-denial, and more.

"thought of grocery shopping during sex"....OUCH!

just as a like as two narcissists in a pod. Herb and Saree were made for each other. It would be dueling egos twenty four seven with them. Ugh. They absolutely border on sociopathy.

There is one difference between Palin and Cain. When Cain first ran, he placed very high in the polls. He stood on the stage for a number of debates and engaged with a number of reporters. In the end, none of this did Cain any good because the process showed how poorly prepared he was to actually be a president.

Sarah was chosen to run for VP. Other than the Gibson and Couric interviews, Sarah never sat for a serious interview because she couldn't. Sarah could barely prepare for her one-and-only debate. Sarah was not tested in the public way that Cain was. She was shielded and protected by very powerful people. They also realized that Palin was unfit for public office, yet they tried hard to get her elected to be the VP to a 72 year old man with a history of cancer.

I dislike the year long campaigning that goes into our presidential races. The one good thing about it is that time was the test that showed Cain for what he was-- a joke. A man in love with his own ego who though that he could bamboozle people with his fancy talking. Sarah was never tested in the same way.

Herman Cain's destruction was his lies and denial. How can so many women have a similar narrative?

And Ginger White was clearly NOT going to back down, STFU nor go away. She looked directly into the camera, and spoke her truth, to which he responded by calling them all liars.

OMG Gina M, Thinking of the grocery list while Herb got his groove on ---- that had to hurt big time! Must have been a short list like

    1- Totino's pizza bites
    2- vienna sausage
    3- godiva chocolate

And of course, family always comes first, and his decision was based on that and prayer, just like Sarah Palin.

His comment about how his family was treated - Really?? His family was treated with the utmost respect by the 'left', the same as the concern for Trig on the campaign & book tour i.e. lack of clothing, passed around like a sack of produce, dragged out of bed, etc. In fact, can you say how many kids Cain has? I can't. His wife did one interview. Has not been on the campaign trail. Neither has he dragged his kids on stage.

Didn't like the treatment of his family.

Oh Mr. 'Can't Keep My Pecker in my Pants' Cain -- BULLSHIT. Showed his cards as to his what he thinks of women, his wife included. Disrespected his wife and his marriage having 'hid' women. But then, his wife I have come to see as stupid for turning her head and enabling him as there is no way for that many years you don't see something. Mrs. Cain is no victim.

He, like Rethuglican Baggers play the victim card for everything. The only time he can truly play victim is when his dick is hacked and a 'player' never stops 'playing' and there may come a day. Just sayin'.

Found so many of the hypocrite baggers, those ones that ram down people's throats family values and bible verses every time they open their mouths, brushed off that he at least admitted hidden friendship and financial payments. In a pissing match with a moron, she called it a 'southern' thing as they are so much more charitable than the rest of the country. I'd tell them all to be tested for STD's, etc. as they can be found to be the higher percentage of 'enablers' and ya know the arrogant ones aren't wearing protection. Not only did he sleep with them, so did the wife when you think about what can be passed around.

Yes, it is amazing that they think God has called them to be president. Yet they never think that called has called them to not lie for money, not commit adultery, not force their agenda on everybody else, or not push policies that would hurt the poor.

Cain's campaign was a joke on so many levels that it's difficult to see which was most significant. First, he is an egotist of the first order, and that kept him from acknowledging the limitations that made him unfit for the nomination, much less the White House. In addition, he was so eager to ingratiate himself with the lowest information voters in the GOP that he willingly threw his fellow African-Americans under the bus by saying those of us who vote for Democrats are "brainwashed." He compounded the offensiveness of these remarks by calling himself a "real black man" as opposed to President Obama and saying the president had no part of the black experience. Third, he showed a tone-deaf lack of empathy for those less fortunate, in his remarks about the unemployed, Mexican illegal immigrants, the poor, Muslims, and OWS. Fourth, he was abysmally and embarrassingly ignorant about national/global affairs. Fifth, along with his blatant disrespect for women, shown in his remarks about Anita Hill and Nancy Pelosi, he was also willing to tamper with women's reproductive rights and called the women who complained about his actions "liars." With such an assortment of problems, it's a crying shame his candidacy was ever taken seriously.

Cain's crowds were a sea of varying shades of white. Those white folks wanted their own Obama, but a rich one who still knows his place. Cain was their "I'm not a racist I voted black" which is the GOP's "I'm not racist, a lot of my friends are black" card that needed to be played to counteract the tea bagging.

  18. Doesn't anyone else see the sneaking hand of Karl Rove in Cain's downfall? Rove made no secret of his opposition to Cain's candidacy and these kinds of dirty tricks and sudden revelations are right out of Rove's playbook. Not that I care, they can all kill each other in a mud-wrestling pit and the country would be better off, but it's funny to me that this has all the hallmarks of a Rove op and his name hasn't come up.

Not fair to compare him to Palin! I hate to defend the guy, but he at least had the guts to run for president, and faced reporters. Palin has never been anything but a big coward and bully. Mama Grizzly, my ass.

    @rdale, 9:16 a.m.:

I have always seen this as having all the earmarks of a Rovian takedown. Back in 2000, he was instrumental in derailing John McCain's nomination campaign by having his operatives put out the lie that McCain fathered a child by a black prostitute. In fact, the McCains adopted a little girl from Bangledesh. She is named Bridgette and she is either in her late teens or early 20's. Since Cain was not even considered likely to be the nominee, Democrats have been waiting to train their sights on someone who IS likely, and they have believed it would be Willard Romney.

Cain has other similarities to Sarah Palin... financial scandals that are leaning against the inside of the closet door, waiting to tumble out... except that there is still so much debris from the sexual peckerdillos. [Yes, that pun is deliberate.]

  23. I think we all have been played and maybe Rachel Maddow was right about it being performance art after all. He clearly was riding the celebrity gravy-train even more than his usual paid speaker gigs and writing books. This is what an egotistical, arrogant
bastard with no clue on worldly manners and issues, might think of doing, maybe subconscious or not.

I have to believe he is smarter than Palin although they do share many common attributes. I have always been curious of Cain ad Palin supporters although they are rare.
