Bill Maher explains, for the ignorant, that Atheism is NOT a religion and then takes a moment to unbaptize Mitt Romney's dead father-in-law.

That was great. I love that Bill comes out of the closet with his non-religious views.

I loved the line "The best part of being an atheist is that it takes so little of your time."

I'm so glad I don't have to feel guilty anymore <<raised Catholic. I'm free from religion messing with my mind! What will be, will be. I have better things to do.

  2. Was it here that I saw a picture of a tv with the caption that if religion is tv, atheism is not a channel; it is the OFF switch?

Religions, ALL religions, are started by ruthless people to control other people. Especially their sex lives. But, most especially, their money.

I just finished watching this week's show & thought it was hilarious when he 'unbaptized' the dead father-in-law.

It was a good show this week as compared to last week. The guest was the guy who exposed Apple for their manufacturing in China & the conditions, suicides, etc. - for which Apple came out with a statement that people want a new iPhone or whatever each year and that it's cheaper -- basically saying who gives a rat's ass about the conditions or if they kill themselves.

I asked for an iPad for my birthday. I don't want it now. My iPhone contract is up next month and it's gone too. Like Komen, my way of speaking out may be only one person, but I'll use my wallet. I did buy an iPad for my niece for this past Christmas and her 2 brothers asked for them for this coming one. That ain't gonna happen!!

Time for Apple to get hit like Komen.

  4. Maher called people who believe Atheism is a religion, "idiots." That was a direct slam at his worst. guest. ever. -- last week -- the DJ Kennedy, who said that.

I love the axiom, "there is no religion higher than Truth." So TRUE. The right wing reminds me of the melting face guy at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Hahahaha! The Komen Foundation mixed religion, politics and stupidity and was brought down in 36 hours! I'm so proud of my fellow LIBERALS for standing up to this! Today Komen, tomorrow, the Kochs!!

Remember, remember, the sixth of November! Landslide!!

OMG -- Madonna is not the only one who would be 'pissed'in the situation you described (haha) -- Your 'un-baptism'will, I am sure, piss off many people right here in Utah, and other surrounding 'Mormon' states (like Idaho) ! ! ! LOL

I will be waiting for some un-friendly comments right here, in 3....2....1.....

    Should be fun. :o)

OK, I hope someone can help me out with this--it's been bugging me since I first heard of LDS members posthumously baptizing people.

Current understanding of hereafter belief leads one to think that a soul, the individual spark of animation, continues on throughout eternity, either comfortably or a mite too warmly for most. So how can this soul have its affiliations and beliefs changed by the living--unless it *doesn't* continue on, in which case the whole argument is sorta moot?

Perhaps someone can shed some light on this conundrum?

That was awesome! And hysterically funny. Thanks, Gryph! Now everybody enjoy the weekend!

Perfect! Who but Maher could get that poor man hysterically out of the clutches of Mitt Romney.

But I'll bet Mitt is making sure Bill will be baptized when he goes off to nowhere when he stops breathing.

this was so brilliant - I was clapping in my living room when we watched it!!!! it really needs to go viral - everyone who votes NEEDS to know what the Mormans do (baptise folks who have passed on regardless of that person'a own faith and preferences) - how can you trust any one who do such a thing - violate another person's freedom to chose their own religion or not have a religion !!! It is beyond comprehension - and yet here is a man running for the highest political office of our country who actually does this!!!!

I've been telling my husband about this for weeks and he just that it's crazy no one does that - but then we watched this segment and finally he believed me!

Can you imagine Mitt has president - would he just batize us all ?????? Plus reading the "Mormon plan for America" is one frightening plan - time to start getting the word out the public.

Hey Alicat, but have you excommunicated yourself - because if not, the RCC still counts you on its roll and that adds to its power.

Really free yourself. Start the process.

@12:51 Remember, the RCC used to sell (and give) indulgences so that living relatives could pray their dead out of hell or purgatory, too.

In the 1960's if I remember correctly there was still a chart going around that saying x# of this prayer or that would be a 700 (days? hours?) "early parole."

That after death baptism thing is one of the LEAST batshit crazy aspects of Mormonism.

If what I read recently is only HALF true, about the INSANE agenda of the hierarchy of the Mormon church, and what all they hope to see occur if they can get their boy in at the top spot of the U.S. government, we are in deep trouble, if that happens.

I can only hope that a credible investigative journalist digs into this and reveals it nationally, before the election.

If even the rightwingers are not that infatuated with the jerk who appears to be the winner of the Republican campaign, just WAIT til they get a load of what his "religion" will bring to the table.

I think unbaptizing the people that Morman's aren't allowed to baptize when they are alive is a great ideal.

Baptizing someone in to a religion they rejected joining is truly offensive. And incredibly arrogant, and down right asinine.

Who do they think they are kidding? God?

What I loved most was his use of rituals as props, very funny stuff! Not to throw a wrench in the works, but wouldn't he tecnically need two "Un godparents" and a ouja board?

Great Comment, and it's still used to this day.
Our own beloved Ted Kennedy, before he passed, wrote a letter (and a check) to the Pope asking for the indulgence to be forgiven of his past indescretions, taking into account his lifetime of work on behalf of the uninsured and poor.

12:41 I shared your concern as well, but if you stop and think about it, aren't all computers, electronics and televisions made in countries like singapore and under much the same conditions?
Not disagreeing, but what are the alternatives?

Awesome! Loved the part about atheism NOT being a religion.

Now if we could "unbaptise" all the other dead people that the Mormans have tried to claim.

    OMG I can't stop hurting.
My sides are killing me and my tears keep following from laughing so hard.

That has to be one of the BEST segments of all time!! With the best of the best being the UN-Baptizing of Mittens' father-in-law.

When he said, "shameil, shamazol" I just lost it & visualized the opening credits of the Laverene & Shirley Show with the two skipping down the street.

Thanks for posting that since I don't have premium channels on my cable service.
