President Obama is now openly mocking the Republicans. And really, who can blame him?

Courtesy of Politico:

President Barack Obama is letting his inner Don Rickles run free, mocking climate deniers as the crowd who used to think the moon was made out of cheese or spineless dopes who can’t or won’t listen to science even though the science is all overwhelmingly pointing in one direction. Their heads are in the sand. They are members of the Flat Earth Society.

“It’s pretty rare that you encounter people who say that the problem of carbon pollution is not a problem,” Obama said. “In most communities and workplaces, they may not know how big a problem it is, they may not know exactly how it works, they may doubt they can do something about it. Generally they don’t just say, ‘No I don’t believe anything scientists say.’ Except, where?” he said, waiting for the more than accommodating crowd to call back, “Congress!”

Obama smiled — not his big toothy self-satisfied grin, but his stick-it-in-the-ribs smirk.

“In Congress,” he said. “Folks will tell you climate change is hoax or a fad or a plot. A liberal plot.”

Then, Obama said, there are the people who duck the question. “They say, hey, I’m not a scientist, which really translates into, I accept that man-made climate change is real, but if I say so out loud, I will be run out of town by a bunch of fringe elements that thinks climate science is a liberal plot so I’m going to just pretend like, I don’t know, I can’t read,” Obama said.

“I mean, I’m not a scientist either, but I’ve got this guy, John Holdren, he’s a scientist,” Obama added to laughter. “I’ve got a bunch of scientists at NASA and I’ve got a bunch of scientists at EPA.”

“I’m not a doctor either, but if a bunch of doctors tell me that tobacco can cause lung cancer, then I’ll say, okay. Right? I mean, it’s not that hard.”

You know since many Americans, especially young Americans, now get their news from the Daily show, and the Colbert Report did a better job of teaching us about SuperPAC's than the networks, I totally support the President's mocking of the Republicans, and his attempt to use humor to illustrate the ridiculousness of their anti-science arguments.

Go get'em President Obama! All this obstruction and hatred for our President just because he's black and a democrat. We the people elected him and still they disrespect him. I'm so sick and tired of the GOP/RWNJ's who do absolutely nothing but try to discredit a good President.

Since you can't reason with them, might as well laugh at them.

And, yes it is time for our president to simply let people know they have a problem with the truth. I say go for it. Let the denier/willfully ignorant part of our population know they are ignorant slobs who are ruining the world for their children just so they can hold on to their imaginary world.

Yes! I can usually understand opposing viewpoints on issues in the news even though I don't agree with them, but not climate change. The deniers rightfully should be shamed, loudly and often!

  7. We all know who that "I'm not a scientist" dig was aimed at.

I'm surprised after all of the mocking he is still orange.

Too bad we can't draw a line on the earth for climate change, and put all those disbelieving (or those who say they disbelieve just to protect their oil--or whatever--money) persons on side where nothing was done, while those who are trying to make a difference stay on the other side of the earth; that way they'd get what they insist they want/is so and the rest of us would suffer our own consequences, as in an improved living situation. Be especially nice if each group could see how the other gets along...to each his own!

I detest the Republican party in the US Congress - both houses! Vote them out of office every chance you get! I'm especially sick of them being so anti anything President Obama does. Obstruct, obstruct and demean. It's all they do.

They assuredly do not earn their pay - which is taxpayer's money! Pay attention voters! They are truly a nasty party and racists!

Not just Republicans, our "Democratic" Senator Mark Begich is a "Blue Dog Dem" which means he's basically a Republican. There are 8 of them in the Senate that claim to be Dems but aren't and it's time to vote them out as well!

2:41 PM Totally disagree with you concerning Mark Begich. I know him personally and have voted for him in every race he has held and won!!!!! He will win again!

Plus, Mark Begich is different in that he is not a racist like the Republicans in the House and Senate!

      Vote out the Republicans!!!!

He's got some pretty good lines, and he's right, as usual.
I would have loved for him to say something like "How am I supposed to answer questions until someone explains to me, exactly what it is that a Scientist does from day to day?" Boener's stupid move blew up in his face and the POTUS zips right by saying "beep beep".

    They don't want him.

Border's closed. Canadian citizenship's revoked. All historical references to his Canadian birth being erased as we speak.

    We're stuck with him.

    Then again, there's always Cuba...

Sometimes, ridicule and dismissal can be much more effective than anger and argument.

And he does it with a smile.
