It is called Alaska Trekker, and it is chock full of interesting facts, amazing original photos and video of the Alaska outdoors, and even information on travel to and within the state.
Personally I am just happy that now people will get to see some of the amazing pictures that Dennis has been sharing with me for years. The guy is really good!

(who would want to hang out with over 4000 Wasillans is anyone's guess, I live here and would never want to do this dinner, but to each their own I guess, I find most Wasillans a little too right wing evangelical for my taste)
DeleteThe Palins always have participated serving food, a holdover from when she had to show up when she was Mayor. It's the only community outreach that she and Todd ever participated in both when she was in office and now that she isn't. Last year she was selling her books there, remember, Sarah doesn't do anything unless it benefits her.

DeleteI haven't seen any photos from this year but last year she posted some on one of her social media accounts or there was a photo in the Frontiersman. Not sure where I saw it but she was serving food and selling books. In year's past the event was held at the Wasilla High cafeteria until the event outgrew that venue then they moved it to the Menard. I remember seeing the Palins at the High School a few times when I delivered the floral centerpieces for the tables.
But, big deal, they do ONE thing for the community, ONCE a year, and they probably only do that because so many people show up it gives them maximum exposure and then it makes more people think that they are a charitable, philanthropic family when they really aren't. They don't do anything from the heart, only for appearances.

DeleteThe dinner is funded by public and restaurant donations of turkey, ham and other food items but there is no charge for the meal and there are over 4,000 people that now attend each year, some of them families who have made this a tradition and choose to dine with other families each year at the dinner, and some families in need, but the dinner is not a "need based event", everyone is welcome. Local chefs donate their time in the kitchen and manage groups of volunteers to assist in cooking and serving.

I usually have two or three family groups and even more friends visit each year and they're always looking for info on what we should do while they are here and I hate planning everything for them! That's life in AK, it seems like I spend most of my life here being a tourist with visitors, but it never, ever gets old!
