A 10-year-old girl was injured late Saturday when police say her father accidentally fired a gun at their home in Colleyville.
Colleyville spokeswoman Mona Gandy said the girl’s father was showing visitors his handgun at his home on Douglas Avenue when the gun discharged just before midnight. The bullet went through a wall and struck his 10-year-old daughter, who was in another room, in the hand, Gandy said.
The girl’s mother drove her to a nearby emergency room in Colleyville and the girl was flown to the hospital for treatment, Gandy said.
Police arrested the girl’s father, Steven Johnson, 53, on a charge of injury to a child, Gandy said. Johnson is at Keller jail.
Well I think this is clearly the girl's fault for not returning fire.

And then we have this one from the today....

Are you kidding---he was arrested? In Texas?
ReplyDeleteBut why didn't the police say it was just an accident?
What about his 2nd Amendment rights to mishandle weapons
and put others in danger? And---he's just a good old boy and he ain't even wearing a hoodie.
About damn time.
So much wrong with this. After midnight? On a school.night? Why was he having visitors at midnight? Why wasn't the 4th grader in bed?
ReplyDeleteI have grandkids in Texas, and I can't wait for their parents to wake up and get the hell out of there while they are all alive.
Stupid kid. She should know better than to put her hand in front of a speeding bullet. Why does she need hands anyway? It's the right to bear arms, nobody said nothing about hands.
ReplyDelete(Obvious snark)
No, it's not her fault for not returning fire. It's her fault for not preemptively shooting him first thus preventing him from using his weapon, you know like another Texan did a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteSome kids will do anything for attention.
ReplyDeletewtf?

More fail:
" Holly Fisher became a social media phenomenon in July after posting a pair of photos showing her holding a variety of conservative totems – a Bible, AR-15 rifle, a Chick-fil-A cup, and wearing a pro-life T-shirt.
“ATTENTION LIBERALS: do NOT look at this picture,” Fisher posted on her Twitter account. “Your head will most likely explode.”
But now today add cheating on her husband with a Tea Party staffer! Tea Party News Network? Who knew there was such a thing?
"The affair allegedly took place during the Restoring the Dream event, a Faith and Freedom conference, and on Election night."
OMFG!!! This sounds just like the thing to get Dinesh Dsouza all stirred up!
Re Holly Hobby Horse -- Sounds like lots of freedom on erection night. Not sure there was much faith involved.
ReplyDeleteWe have gun idiots in Alaska too: http://www.newsminer.com/news/local_news/fairbanks-corrections-officer-won-t-face-charges-in-accidental-shooting/article_795740bc-9afc-11e4-917a-77aa1012a32a.html
ReplyDeleteAnd, of course, even though the guy is/was extremely irresponsible, no charges were filed because he's part of the good 'ol boy network.
Missouri baby boy shot to death by 5-year-old brother

OT We had an incident where a girl kept her pregnancy secret, had the baby, drove to a rurla road and set the baby on fire with gasoline. The baby died an hour later.

The problem is, we have a law that one can drop a baby off at any police station, hosptial, church, etc no questions asked. I know it's different circumstances, and the mother was in denial till the very end, but you don't need a gun to kill, though it's their primary reason for being made and sold.
This father deserves the book being thrown at him. Part of parenting is supplying a soft spot to land on, a safe place to live, and he obviously loves his guns MORE than he does his kid. And for the first time, kudos on arresting him and not excusing it as just one of those freak accidents.
You said, "Well I think this is clearly the girl's fault for not returning fire."
ReplyDeleteYeah a good young girl with a gun can stop a bad grown man with a gun, right?
