Dealing with my Academy Award hangover.

Was not always impressed with NPH last night. But this took guts.
Okay so I watched the Oscars last night with my daughter, which is kind of like watching a Nazi parade with Hitler.

Every time my attention drifted away or I missed a joke she exclaimed "Dad! I thought you were going to watch this with me!"

I was, I was watching it with her.

However where she was on the edge of her seat over each category (Really? Sound mixing?), I was only really interested in the BIG moments such as Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Movie, and most steeply plunging neckline.

Of course unlike her father my daughter made it her mission to watch EVERY single one of the nominated movies. I think she missed like three or four, but she certainly saw all of the biggies.

So when the movies were announced in each category my daughter went through the same process. "Oh that one was so good it should win. But wait I loved that one too. Oh no this one is really the one that should take home the Oscar. Oh they all deserve to win, I can't decide."

And then when the winner was announced my daughter would leap from her chair and yell "Yes! This is the one I wanted to win!"

This happened every time, for every category, no I am not exaggerating.

So for those of you who did not spend your evening listening to bad jokes, fumbled pronunciations, and awkward award presentations, here is a list of the winners.

The top winners were "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and "Birdman" each with four Oscars. (Birdman also won for Best Picture.)

Eddie Redmayne won Best Actor for "The Theory of Everything," and Julianne Moore won Best Actress for "Still Alice." (This was the only win that was punctuated with the sound of cans ricocheting off of a Wasilla refrigerator.)

As it turned out "American Sniper" only brought home one Oscar for Sound Editing which you know will result in all kinds of Right Wing conspiracy theories.

Now I don't want you to think that I did not find some enjoyable moments, because I really did.

For instance there was Common accepting the award for best original song for the movie "Selma." His speech was quite powerful and incredibly eloquent.

The same could be said for Patricia Arquette's acceptance speech for her Best Supporting Actress role in "Boyhood:"

"To every woman who gave birth to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else's equal rights," she said. "It's our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America."

That was so good it made Meryl Streep react like this:

Definitely got the Meryl Streep and J-Lo seal of approval.

However just speaking for myself the best, and most unexpected moment, came when this happened.

Okay seriously, who knew Lady Gaga could sing like THAT?

And when Julie Andrews came out afterward I thought my daughter was going to collapse with joy.

So all in all it was a really fun evening, and I really enjoyed spending it with my insanely crazy about movies daughter.

And you know the best part? Well the best part is that they announced the Best Picture early enough so that I was able to quickly turn the channel afterward and watch everything but the first few minutes of "The Walking Dead." (You should have heard my daughter scream when I did that.)

Two things brought tears to my eyes during the show - the "Selma" song and Lady Gaga and Julie Andrews. Does everyone know that Julie Andrews can no longer sing and hasn't been able to for a number of years now? The "Selma" presentation could not have been done any better!

And, loved the fact Julianne Moore won the Oscar. I'm sure folks are going to review her work and see "Game Change" for the first time! Sarah Palin and family members aren't going to like that!

Did everyone notice that Julianne Moore, who played the part of Sarah Palin in the movie, "Game Change," copied Sarah Palin once again. Julianne wore a white beaded dress to the Oscars. However, Julianne's dress was a Chanel gown, not a five year old $103. dress from Neiman Marcus which had been worn and worn and worn. I don't think that Julianne had the fashion sense to wear black spike heel shoe-boots with her white beaded dress, either.

10:06 AM I seriously doubt Julianne Moore 'copied' Sarah Palin's dress worn at another function! Julianne's dress was being made for her way before Sarah Palin appeared on the scene in Bristol's dress.

There is also the 'class' issue vs the 'white trash' one of Sarah Palin who is from small town Wasilla, Alaska!

      I think that was snark...
loved to American sniper didn't bring home the bacon and was "snubbed" according to "hasselbitch" of fox... saw his widow fame whoring on the red carpet and dropping her G's like every good patriot (gag me)
Sean penn is coming out with a true (I think story)"the Gunman" of a guy who was a sniper and now they are trying to kill him which is prob what happened to Kyle.
Penn's movie looks good but I doubt the "Patriot" crowd will like it. Comes out in Mar. Can't wait.
Saw the slam where the Mexican guy gets up to accept his award and says "oh something must be wrong two mexicans in a row I guess the border/imigration must not be working"? something to that effect, EVERYONE know the RW'rs are nothing but PUNCH lines and JOKES!
Loved the speech Patrica Argquette also, but that also caused PoxPoutrage also, too :( :(
So many little things in left libral 'merika to get pissed about... as BOR goes down!!!!
One in glass houses should not throw stones and that goes for the payme family! Also, too!!!

@11:38 Meant as a joke. Julianne is the true star and Sarah is the wannabe. Bristol is another wannabe. I like the remark, below, that Kim Kardashian was NOT invited to the Vanity Fair party because reality TV stars are not movie stars. They didn't want people to walk in and have the first person they see turn out to be Kim. You could say the same thing about Sarah and Bristol.

The reason that Sarah was on SNL was because she was the VP candidate at the time, and she didn't like the way that they were making fun of her. She must have begged Lorne Michaels for to return for the anniversary, but she was not included in any of the skits. They did show video of Tina Fey impersonating Sarah, which was funnier. If you have to ask Lorne Michaels to pay you to run for President, you are officially a joke.

The whole scene with NPH running through hallways getting stares from everyone was a mock-up of that scene, I guess...

I did not watch but had to laugh at an article I read about the Vanity Fair after party. "Despite recent reports that had suggested otherwise, Kim Kardashian was not invited to the Vanity Fair party, in fact there was not a reality starlet in sight. Editor Carter told The Times last year of his carefully curated party, 'If you walk in and the first person you see is Kim Kardashian, that sort of brands the evening for you.'"

No reality starts allowed, eh? No wonder that super-elite invitation didn't show up, $arah!

"And here's how they do it. They use these delicate, tiny, very talented celebrity starlets. They use Alaska as a fund-raising tool for their anti-Second Amendment causes." The crowd clapped.

Yes, $arah, they are very, very talented, but most are not tiny, as Hollywood likes taller ladies than you.

And last night, we didn't even see the starlets, we saw the real stars, you know the ones that are up in lights, like you'll never be!

They are the ones that win Oscars, star in movies, support good causes, and are serious actors with real talent.

All you are is a washed up F list celebutard wearing the fuglist outfit at the SNL40.

To top off the evening, you get into a spat with hecklers outside, tell them to get a job, and that you are "in show business"

Best Picture was after midnight here in northern Michigan. I was so happy with the choices for Best Actor and Best Actress though, also for the Supporting Actor and Actress. I loved the Grand Budapest Hotel but was especially moved by The Theory of Everything and also by The Imitation Game and Selma. I also liked Boyhood and Ida. I haven't seen Birdman - not really my type but it is playing locally now so maybe . . . . This is the first year ever that I've already seen so many of the nominated films. We're lucky to have Michael Moore's renovated State Theatre in our town! He chooses the best movies! 2014 was a year of stellar movies and great acting. It made the long Oscar evening worthwhile.

You're doing a lot better than some of Sarah's fans in the Swamp. They never heard of Meryl Streep. They resented Patricia Arquette speaking up for equal pay for women. (How about everyone gets equal pay?) Last night, some idiot said that he was angry that a young British kid got the award for best actor. (Yeah, they are taking the jobs that Americans could have had, playing a British guy with ALS who was also a brilliant scientist. Oh, they don't believe in science, either). They had no idea what the movie "Bridman" was about. Never mind that Michael Keaton had gone on talk shows to promote the movie and talked about the unusual way that it was filmed, all in one long shot.

Lady Gaga can sing, but OMG--she was sooooo awkward onstage. That grabbing the dress and swaying? Yech. She did not look natural at all. Maybe that's why her shows are so choreographed?

Mostly, it just felt out of place. Sing the nominated songs and have an opener, but stop killing an awards show with musical numbers no one wants to see.

I thought that she looked dreadfully awkward too and her singing went on way too long, especially at that late hour (for those of us on the East Coast). I also thought that women and teenaged girls should think more than twice about getting tattoos in any part of the body that might be on display in an evening gown. She really looked tacky whenever she lifted her arms.

I knew Lady Gaga was extremely talented and of course, could belt out any song with ease. She is professionally trained in voice and music. She made herself a star by doing crazy things and wearing crazy things, but it's all marketing to make herself famous. It worked. She is the best.
