New intelligence report circulated by DHS finds that sovereign citizen groups are far more dangerous to Americans than foreign Islamic terror groups. Cue faux outrage from Faux News.

Courtesy of CNN:

They're carrying out sporadic terror attacks on police, have threatened attacks on government buildings and reject government authority.

A new intelligence assessment, circulated by the Department of Homeland Security this month and reviewed by CNN, focuses on the domestic terror threat from right-wing sovereign citizen extremists and comes as the Obama administration holds a White House conference to focus efforts to fight violent extremism.

Some federal and local law enforcement groups view the domestic terror threat from sovereign citizen groups as equal to -- and in some cases greater than -- the threat from foreign Islamic terror groups, such as ISIS, that garner more public attention.

The Homeland Security report, produced in coordination with the FBI, counts 24 violent sovereign citizen-related attacks across the U.S. since 2010.

The government says these are extremists who believe that they can ignore laws and that their individual rights are under attack in routine daily instances such as a traffic stop or being required to obey a court order.

They've lashed out against authority in incidents such as one in 2012, in which a father and son were accused of engaging in a shootout with police in Louisiana, in a confrontation that began with an officer pulling them over for a traffic violation. Two officers were killed and several others wounded in the confrontation. The men were sovereign citizen extremists who claimed police had no authority over them.

This seems to  jive with an earlier report from the New America Foundation that that contained analysis from 2001-2015 which found that "Of 448 extremists counted, white men who were U.S. citizens outnumbered every other demographic by wide margins."

And this included "extremists affiliated with a variety of far-right wing ideologies, including white supremacists, anti-abortion extremists, and anti-government militants."

So in other words dedicated Fox News viewers, and Sarah Palin supporters.

Oh yeah, there's going to be backlash.

If you don't think that the same crowd that showed up to "shield" Bundy the deadbeat tax evader with loaded weapons was not a threat, then are not paying attention.

Tim McVeigh was just the tip of the iceberg

The Alaska Independence Party that Todd Palin is a member of recently had people arrested and convicted on felonies related to terrorism.

Ted Nugent, who is a self confessed pedophile and a draft dodger got a visit from Secret Service for threatening the life of the President by implication.

Idaho is full of white power groups training for Christian Jihad

There is a resurgence of the KKK in the country right now, as is evidenced recently by many news stories.

Sorry, you aren't showing much in the way of critical thinking skills. We have all seen these people in action, proudly stating their views and acting on them. It is all out there in the news, radio, and internet. Their own thoughts, words, and deeds, some of them horrific.

Does the report mesh with actual verified reality? Yes, it does.

Of course the DHS is going to come to the conclusion that reinforces their reason to exist. They are of course going to say they need more funding, more muscle, more armaments, and additional spying power without oversight on our own citizens. Use your brains folks. This is classic government agency self purposing.

Let them shoot it out with each other. Of course I would first move all the fine upstanding law abiding people out of Texas to a state of their choosing. #sorrynotsorry

Actually, Todd Palin IS very very scary. The DHS needs to disclose the documentation withheld from FOIA requests concerning Shailey Tripp servicing Secret Service agents for pimp daddy Palin.
I refer to Malia Litman's blog. Funny thing, The Secret Service keeps dumping its "resigned" department heads to the DHS in different capacities BEFORE they have to testify to hearing committees.
So these very extremist groups have a hold on the "inside."
Starting with internal sex and corruption cover-ups..
I hope Toddy and Ty-Ty's snowmobile throw a rod or two.

The funniest thing about that is that Sarah Palin tried to play if off like Todd checked the wrong box on his voter registration form saying he checked "Independence Party" instead of "Independent" but there is no "independent" on our voter registration forms. There is "undeclared" or "non-partisan", but no "independent".

I'm a supporter of the Southern Poverty Law Center which identifies and tracks extremist groups of all stripes in this country. Their map of the US with locations of various strongholds is scary and enlightening. So this DHS report does not surprise me at all.

We need to remember that when white crazy people go on shooting rampages it's because they're mentally ill, not because they hold extremist beliefs. The young American woman who, with her Canadian accomplice, planned to shoot up a shopping center on Valentine's Day but was captured in Canada about a week ago, had all kinds of ties to neo-Nazi groups in the US. Sounds pretty extremist to me! Also stark-raving crazy.

The Oklahoma City bomber was also crazy but he was a far-right extremist too. With connections to the Michigan Militia. Didn't the Michigan Militia head move to Alaska at some point?

Oh, I agree with you, Leland. People who dream of bombing and killing and maiming are both crazy and extremist.

My point is that the media and public officials tend to consider those who are white and do these things only to be crazy. Timothy McVeigh was obviously both but his name is never mentioned by the media today as an example of extremist domestic "terrorism" and, once his political nuttiness was exposed, the media made very little of it. On the other hand, the Boston Marathon brothers were obviously both, but, because of their religion and foreign origin, only their Muslim side has been focused on by the media. The young woman I describe above is clearly both. In her case, the Canadian police focused on her craziness and, at least initially, stated that she was not an extremist because she had no Muslim ties. Of course, she did have lots of neo-Nazi ties. So, in my mind, the two are almost always linked but authorities and the media seem to pick and choose which aspect to emphasize.

Right now, authorities and the media seem to look only for ties to Muslim fanatic groups and ignore the "home-grown" types of fanaticism. As the DHS and the SPLC demonstrate there are lots of really scary crazy people out there with all kinds of nutty rationalizations for their dreamed of behavior. To pretend that the only extremist ideas floating around belong to Muslim extremists is naive and dangerous for all of us.
