A third Planned Parenthood sting video produced by the Center of Medical Progress has been released, purporting to show vice president and medical director of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains Savita Ginde discussing compensation for fetal organs while a technician shows the buyer aborted remains.
The bulk of the video features an interview with Holly O’Donnell, a former employee of StemExpress, which is one of Planned Parenthood’s partners in fetal donation. O’Donnell claimed to have applied for a job thinking she would just be drawing blood, but fainted on her first day when they brought in an aborted fetus for her to dissect.
“For whatever we could procure, they would get a certain percentage,” O’Donnell said. “The main nurse was always trying to make sure we got our specimens. No one else really cared, but the main nurse did because she knew that Planned Parenthood was getting compensated.”
But the more disturbing part of the video is towards the end, when an undercover activist posing as a buyer visits one of the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic laboratories, where he watches a technician dig through a pie dish full of fetal remains to find organs.
If you watch the video you can see that the fake buyer is the one bringing up payment, and that at times the technicians simply look confused by talk of compensation.
However the problem is that this video shows actual tissue samples from aborted fetuses, and that is the kind of thing that really agitates the anti-choice folks. That is why they bring those horrible pictures of mangled fetuses to their protests.
Palin is still doing her part to pile on, as are many other conservatives.
And even though Salon called Palin out over her recent comparison of the Confederate battle flag with the Planned Parenthood logo, conservatives have been eating that up with a spoon.
In fact I have tracked at least a dozen or more conservative websites who just picked that up and ran with it.
I hate to say this folks but I am beginning to think that Planned Parenthood could very well go the way of ACORN. I know that seems too horrible to contemplate right now, but I would not underestimate the power of conservative outrage and how easily that can be manipulated.
Palin has latched on to this PP outrage for one reason: she's desperate to show her bots that sarahpac still has influence and that she can make a difference. If not, the money dries up along with her lifestyle. My guess is her handlers have inside info on what's coming down the pike and she feels safe in her increased outrage. I know for certain that she nor her dipshit daughter care about unborn black babies. If they did, they would donate time and money to help the unwanted babies that already exist.

The graphic images are no more graphic than what you see in a pathology lab at a major hospital that performs D&Cs for women having miscarriages. But linking them with PP does the trick for anti-choice folks an gets them slobbering and raving. The reason the products of conception (POC) are examined after the procedure is not to sort out parts for sale but to ensure that the abortion was complete and nothing remained in the woman's uterus that could cause infection or complications. How do I know? I worked at a PP affiliate for over 12 years. The affiliate performed surgical abortions. No one was in that POC room dancing with glee and trying to make a buck off of the fetal tissue. But nor was anyone in there sobbing. It's a medical office performing a medical procedure - just like ANY medical office that removes tissue from a human body. That's what POC is - TISSUE. It just happens to have human form. It is NOT a baby. It's a possibility of a person, which would still face a 1 in 4 chance of miscarriage or stillbirth on the way to breathing a first breath after being delivered.

These doctors are hard working and practical and the fetal tissue they sell (for no profit) is put to good use, helping to find cures and treatment for some of our most devastating illnesses. There is nothing inherently sacred about a fetus. It's not pretty, but neither is organ donation.

All talk of costs in these videos is related to reimbursements for costs associated with collection and transportation of the tissue to the research facility, all in line with the kinds of costs a research lab would reimburse a hospital for for an organ donation.
Planned Parenthood no more 'sells' fetal tissue than a woman who accepts payments for her pre-natal heath care 'sells' her baby.
So if one side of this argument is going to press the issue, and say that this practice still amounts to 'selling', I will be perfectly happy pointing out that women who accept payments for health care and maintenance (food allowance, housing reimbursement, whatever) while they are pregnant in exchange for not aborting and giving their baby up outside of the adoption system are in fact 'selling' their babies.

DeleteIt seems outrageous to me that "perspective buyers" would be invited into a lab to inspect the aborted fetal remains and basically shop for the parts they required. Something about this video just seems way off and not at all in keeping with the scientific standards in which labs are operated. Samples, semen or tissue or any other specimen that might need preserved for later use are not just plopped on a table in a pie plate and poked and prodded and breathed upon and allowed to get warm; samples are immediately frozen or otherwise preserved if they will be used for any scientific purpose. This whole video feels like a hoax to me.

Planned Parenthood, is the U.S. affiliate of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and one of its larger members. PPFA is a non-profit organization that provides reproductive health and maternal and child health services.
There would be many diy abortions and back room deals with PP not doing services it offers. The prisons will be filled with young girls and women who will be attempted murderers or murderers.

DeleteIt would be easier to eliminate sperm. What a spot on birth control. Men can step up and volunteer. That way they can do whatever to wives, don't call it rape and they would have more freedoms with anyone else. A lot of DNA problems would be reduced.
A man can deposit in a sperm bank where there would be some control over who gets what and when. Women do carry the fetus and babies and they deserve a break from birth control worry. Fair and balanced. Only those who pass rigid tests would be allowed to be injected with sperm bank products.
Anyone caught having no birth control who is knocked up is automatic going to prison. Both the male and the female. Tests and probing will be mandatory for those criminals who slip up and end up with a baby. Those children should go immediately to another family and the criminals finish doing their time but never know what happened to what they spawned.

I worked at an institution that had a fetal tissue repository that provided tissue for scientists to use for research. The truth is the abortions would have been done anyway, and the tissue would go in the garbage rather than be used to help further science. So when one of these idiots takes medication for MS or Parkinsons or another disease then they are also partaking in this "trafficking" of fetal tissue. I am against using animals for research because they are alive and don't have a voice. but a woman who needs to have a late-term abortion is going to have it regardless of whether he fetus will be used for science. This makes me so angry that these idiots are going to push women's reproductive rights back 50 years now over utter misinformation, much like Palin's death panels.

ReplyDeleteRepublicans Reach Planned Parenthood Deal
Updated 7:32 p.m. | A working group of Republican senators has reached a deal on the details of a bill to stop funding Planned Parenthood that will get a vote before the August recess.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell began the procedural gears to bring that bill directly to the floor just before the Senate adjourned Wednesday.
“The horrendous videos of senior executives from Planned Parenthood discussing in callous tones and shocking detail their role in a national scandal requires a congressional response. Our constituents demand it; the unborn deserve it,” the Kentucky Republican said in a statement. “This legislation would ensure taxpayer dollars for women’s health are actually spent on women’s health — not a scandal-plagued political lobbying giant.”
Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa is leading the Republican Conference’s effort on this legislation.
Coming out of a meeting of the group earlier Tuesday afternoon, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who pushed for the amendment to be attached to the highway bill, said he expected to see a bill quickly.
“We’re all very close and all of the staffs have been working together to come up with a consensus agreement and I think you’ll have it pretty soon,” Paul said.
Paul, who spoke earlier at a rally, said the bill’s details were still being worked out and questioned both the legality of the nature of the organ harvesting as well as the morality, noting that this was a “good debate to have.” Planned Parenthood has been under fire in particular since a video was released weeks ago of an executive of the organization discussing harvesting fetal organs over a meal.
The working group led by Ernst includes members of Republican leadership and Sens. Tim Scott, R-S.C.; James Lankford, R-Okla.; and Paul.
Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., earlier in the day hinted that Democrats would not support any measure to defund Planned Parenthood, saying the plan was an “attack on women’s health.”
“We’re dealing with the health of American women, and they’re dealing with some right wing crazy deal,” Reid said.
When asked about different proposals being floated, including one that would divert money from Planned Parenthood to other groups that offer similar women’s services besides abortion, Reid said “Good luck with that.”

DeleteListen, they don't have the votes. The Teabaggers are putting on a show. They, like Palin, are doing it to grift from the fundies. But they do not have the votes: it's called show-boating.
DeleteOrgan and Tissue procurement, like any other service, has certain costs for preparing, transporting, etc. etc. and what PP is doing is no more or no less "criminal" than any other hospital/medical tissue and organ procurement do on a daily basis. There ARE standards and laws specifically designed to ensure that legally procured donations are held to a level of care, and that inherently is what's going on in that clinic. I'm sure the person donating signed consent forms.
ReplyDeleteThe "Phlebotomist" went a bit too far in her fake outrage. She picked up a tissue with tweezers and "felt death and pain" shoot up her arm? Really?!?!? Since when are "Death and pain" transferred by picking up tissue with tweezers? The poor dear who draws blood for a living passed out. I suppose the needle, plastic and latex gloves she uses daily aren't good "conductors" of "pain and death", that the one whose blood is taken is or has been experiencing?
Excuse the pun, but she's tossing red meat to an O'Keefe type fake documentarian crowd, . California has strict laws about letting the other party know they're being taped or filmed without explicitly getting their consent. Did the "undercover film makers" get that consent? I doubt it, they showed people's faces without getting their permission nor pixellating them out. It's not going to stop women who need services from accessing them.
I don't think this will end up like Acorn and I hope it backfires in their faces and PP's contributors up their monetary support in protest.
That's why the perpetrators need to be arrested asap.

The hackers need to be arrested asap for their part in breaking federal laws on medical privacy.
If things don't move fast, Planned Parenthood will be shut down before the first indictment is presented in court.
A fetus that is aborted by a doctor or miscarried is impossible to distinguished between the two.

I've been thinking about how Planned Parenthood can fight fire with fire.
ReplyDeleteI think they need a policy change. No lunch meetings. No tours of the facilities. In fact, nothing on the local level.
I think all of such discussions need to be only at the main headquarters by the higher administration. Anyone wanting info locally needs to be directed to them.
Then, when the so-called business person comes, it will be done with two PP administrators in a conference room designated specifically for that purpose and all those present will sign releases and be informed that the entire discussion is being recorded.
That way Planned Parenthood has an entire, unedited record of exactly what took place, who said what and who said they were who. So the liars are exposed for the liars they are. They give false names and lie about representing some science firm. Bingo! You're a liar.
Anyone that calls any Planned Parenthood should be met with a recording informing them that all calls are recorded and they should be. All calls should also be archived. This isn't that difficult or expensive. They should all be on caller ID so that names and numbers are taken.
Enough of this right wing shit.

I think the worst thing for PP is that a high-ranking PP admin had a conversation about fetuses and body organs in a restaurant while eating food. How could someone at that level be so gullible? The other thing that hasn't helped PP is having Cecile Richards appear in taped statements and on interviews with such lousy talking points.
PP will have a hard time getting past this and it's a damn shame for the women who depend on PP for basic health care services. There should be a complete purge of corporate PP starting with Richards. Support your local PP clinic. Tell them you want your donation to be used entirely at that clinic.
I'll be writing to my Senators Nelson and Rubio this week to tell the to vote NO on defunding PP, reminding them of all the good the organization does for so many - I'll steal my stats from this article:
