Donald Trump responds to news of a US Navy destroyer crash with a flippant "That's too bad." However Breitbart says that's not his fault.

Courtesy of WaPo:

Ten U.S. Navy sailors were missing and five were injured after the USS John S. McCain guided missile destroyer and an oil tanker more than three times its size collided near Singapore early Monday.

American and Singaporean ships and helicopters launched a search-and-rescue mission after the pre-dawn collision at the entrance to one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

Five injured and ten missing, but when Trump was asked about the incident, this was his response:  President Donald Trump’s initial reaction to the crash of the USS John McCain with a merchant ship east of Singapore that left five sailors injured and ten missing was: “That’s too bad.”

Later of course after the blowback Trump's advisers apparently got hold of his Twitter account and tweeted this:
I think that is like the Hallmark card version of a presidential condolence.

"Sorry to hear your ship got smashed. Hope you get well soon."

Kind of makes you wonder if the fact that the ship was named after the guy whose vote spiked Trumpcare has anything to do with Trump's dismissive attitude?

No, don't be silly. According to Breitbart there is really a simply answer that deflects the blame away from Trump:

A source with direct knowledge of these matters tells Breitbart News that the senior staff at the White House, including National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, did not brief President Donald Trump on the collision the Navy destroyer USS John McCain had with an oil tanker near Singapore before he originally seemingly dismissed the incident saying, “that’s too bad.”

Yes, it's not that Donald Trump is an insensitive POS, it's that the guy who Stephen Bannon just lost a power struggle with in the White House is incompetent at his job.

Seems perfectly clear.

Great white hunter gets crushed by large grey elephant in Africa.

Courtesy of the Telegraph:

A South African big game hunter died after being crushed by an elephant cow that had been shot on a game reserve in Zimbabwe at the weekend.

Theunis Botha, 51, was leading a hunt with clients when the group accidentally walked into the middle of a breeding herd of elephants at the Good Luck Farm near Hwange National Park late on Friday afternoon, Zimparks spokesman Mr Simukai Nyasha said.

Three of the elephant cows charged the hunters. Mr Botha fired a shot from his rifle but he was caught by surprise by a fourth cow that stormed them from the side, the Afrikaans news site Netwerk24 reported.

He shot these majestic animals in a place called "Good Luck Farm?"

What, they didn't have any cows he could shoot instead?

This is one of those instances where you have to remind yourself that a man lost his life, and you should not feel any pleasure or sense of satisfaction.

But then you read that the man trained dogs to harass and chase the animals toward him so that he could shoot them more easily, and the struggle becomes just that much more difficult.

So let us mourn the passing of this man, but also remember that he died doing what he loved, slaughtering animals to make himself feel more manly.

Of course in the end he probably felt less like a man, and more like a mancake.

Sarah Palin receives a facial injury and in response attacks Hillary Clinton over her health.

Sarah Palin "fell on some rocks" and it made her angry at the first female presidential candidate.
Courtesy of Clumsy Clara's Facebook page:

Leave Hillary Alone, Bullies

Aww, c'mon guys, give her a break. Anyone can be out of commission.... for weeks on end... whilst in the heat of battle for the highest office in the land. (If anybody has been paying attention to the news they will quickly realize that Hillary has been anything but "out of commission.") No press conferences for nearly a year? No scheduled campaign events for days upon days? No statements, no answers, no accountability, no problem. Layin' low to run out the clock before November, but you're SEXIST for noticing it.

(That is a pretty bold charge coming from a woman who once inspired these.)

And you're MISOGYNIST for questioning a female's fitness. Good thing media didn't hound the crap out of '08 candidate John McCain for his decades-old military medical records or I'd guess them to be hypocrites.

Leave Hillary alone! All that email-evidenced yoga, and wedding planning, and cookie-baking-grandma-duty wears you out. Believe you me.

Heck, even those of us claiming to be fit as a (seasoned?) fiddle, hit bumps in the wellness road. Even I. Especially I. (Remember Piper's middle name is "Grace"; mine isn't.)

Rock-running recently, I tripped over my own two feet and crashed & burned face-first. I recovered with the doc's SuperGlue, and now any man who asks "what happened?" I'll refer to as just a mean ol' SEXIST bully. (Well that has been your go to response for years now.)

Glad for Hillary's protective media's precedence. The next woman running for POTUS has no need to answer to much of anything, for we've got weddings to plan, and Down Dogs to do, and cookies in the oven! So just leave us alone, boys.

- Sarah Palin

Palin then goes on to link to a bunch of those already disproven conspiracy theories about Hillary's health.

In the body of her post Palin suggests that she is playing down her injury, but there are three photos on her Facebook page which accentuates it.

Here is another one of them.

Kind of reminds me of this one from March.

Boy those Palins are sure an accident prone bunch.

I mean if I were somebody who went off chasing every conspiracy theory out there I might start to wonder if there is not something more going on here.

You know, if I were that type.

So how long have you been piloting ships?

This happened the other day in Ketchikan.

The accident caused between 2 to 3 million in damages to the dock, and as you can see quite a lot of damage to the cruise ship as well.

Apparently the winds were gusting up to 45 miles per hour, but these ship captains harbor pilots are pros so that is not a very good excuse for an accident of this magnitude.

P.S. Oops I stand corrected. Apparently there are harbor pilots who bring these ships into port. (Learn something new everyday.)

That would remove the fault from the ship's captain and place it on the folks running the harbor.

Now I am really surprised something like this happened.

Sarah Palin finally posts pictures of Todd in the hospital recovering from his accident.

Courtesy of Palin's only remaining media outlet Facebook:

So grateful for your prayers and support during Todd's recovery! He's in a good place - on the couch - insisting if there's any good season for injury, it's now.

"March Madness is a great distraction," Todd reports. "And catching up on 'Deadliest Catch' and 'Bering Sea Gold' episodes is some awesome motivational therapy. I can't wait to get on Bristol Bay waters and pick fish with the family!"

In our 35 years, I've never seen the guy have to literally hold still, sit down, and take a (winced) breath. And I've never seen Todd so touched by the kindness shown during difficult days.

"It's overwhelming and I'm not worthy of these well-wishes," he said. "I wish I could repay people for caring. Makes me want to do more for others, especially when they're down and out. Maybe that's part of the purpose in all this."

It IS overwhelming, friends' goodness permeating the situation. Todd is always, always doing what he can for others, and rooting for anyone going through life's trials. It's amazing to realize his character is recognized outside of our four walls. He's got a great heart... to go along with two inflated lungs now, metal holding bones together, and stitched up epidermis that makes him appreciate good health more than ever.

"I can't thank you guys enough," Todd said. "The past few weeks showed us it's not just family circling the wagons; I don't think we'd ever realized that before. People out there who are hurting a hundred times worse than I was can use our prayers and any kind gesture. Maybe I can only repay by offering the same to you."

Well we asked for pictures, and now there are pictures.

Of course I notice that we still have no pictures of the snowmachine.

Another Todd Palin update courtesy of his incredibly unsympathetic "wife's" Facebook page.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist but they could literally be vising anybody in the hospital.
Courtesy of Nurse Ratched's Facebook page:

Thank you for lifting Todd up in prayer. He's still in ICU under care of a superbly skilled staff. A long surgery repaired numerous breaks in Todd's upper body, docs essentially lifted and secured every rib with steel bands, anchored the broken clavicle with plates and rods, set aside repair of a broken shoulder for later (also later are more minor things like ACL/MCL knee injuries), still mechanically inflating one collapsed lung while other bruised lung, liver, etc., are watched; chest drain is working overtime to keep things clear. (Damn, Todd was really injured badly. It's a good thing his wife was able to make it to his bedside.....you know, eventually.)

Requiring a bit more than our usual fix-all up here - Duct tape - some gnarly incisions to enter his innards will be reminders of how life can change in the blink of an eye. (And skating through TSA detectors with bionic parts will now be anything but the blink of an eye!)

(Mocking Todd for his injures, always a supportive and nurturing thing to do. Can't you just feel the love?)

So thankful for today's medical technology including 3-D X-rays, temporary pain blocks and epidurals. (Medical science, always so much more effective than prayer.) I'm voting for their continued use until a resting position is found that allows minimal wincing with each breath. (That's a hint that she expects you to share your pain meds with her Todd.)

We say Mat-Su Regional Hospital is the best place to start life - all our babies are Mat-Su born - and these ER and ICU days show our local medical experts are most outstanding at continuing life, too... by the grace of God. (And they are great at keeping secrets too, aren't they Sarah?)

It's all good though, and I hope whatever challenges you face today - physical, emotional, financial - you'll have confidence in the care around you, and you'll apply Todd's consistent advice: "Don't sweat the small stuff."  (Small stuff?)

Your care for Todd is more appreciated than I can express. Thank you. And thank you to the still-mysterious snowmachiner(s) who came upon the wreck and provided critical help that night. I hope to meet you soon!

- Sarah — at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.

Wait! She hasn't met the "bystander" who found her husband broken and bleeding in the woods?

How is that possible?

Now there is a guy who has a story to tell that I imagine is worth a pretty penny.

Okay so here we are coming up on a week since the accident and we STILL have not seen a picture of a damaged showmachine or for that matter a damaged Todd Palin.

Seeing Willow and Piper on a hospital bed does nothing to convince people used to the lies coming from the Palin family of the severity of Todd's injuries.

I'm not saying that he is not hurt, but you know what they say on the internet, "pictures or it never happened."

Another Todd Palin update.

There has not been any real news coming from the Palin camp since Sarah's Facebook update the day before yesterday.

However People magazine has reported that Todd's injuries "were so extensive" that he required six hours of surgery, which only makes his wife's sloth-like return to Alaska all the more disgusting.

As well as her cavalier approach to his injuries in her Facebook post:

Knowing Todd, once he's cognizant, he'll probably ask docs to duct tape him up and he'll call it good. He's tough.

Yeah you know I'm pretty tough as well, but I would hope that if I suffered multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung that my family would express real concern for my recovery, and you perhaps delay any grifting until I was fully recovered.

Speaking of grifting SarahPAC has not missed a beat either, and this recent e-mail was sent out to their mailing list the day after Todd was found by a "bystander" broken and bleeding in the woods:

Hello Friend,

I hope that you have been well. We are emailing you today because we are worried about the 2016 election.

The national Democratic Party has taken advantage of Republicans being so focused on the Presidential race that they are now investing millions of dollars into smaller Congressional and Senate races. We at SarahPAC are afraid that once we have a presidential nominee, liberals will have already outworked us on the ground to elect radical progressives to congress.

That’s why we are announcing a fundraising push for our Conservative Congressional Fund. FIRSTNAME, you are on of our top supporters. Which is why I am asking you to become a Founding Member of the fund.

All it takes become a Founding Member of the Fund, and help bold and principled conservatives is a donation of $25 or more.

Each donation is spent to elect conservatives with a backbone. Do you remember when Sarah Palin endorsed Ted Cruz or Ben Sasse for Senate? At the time, these two men were behind in the polls and very few people knew who they were.

Sarah’s endorsement and SarahPAC have a proven record of making a difference and electing hardcore conservatives.

Please become a Founding member of the Conservative Congressional Fund today. Let’s make history and elect 10, 15 or even 20 bold conservatives across the country.

You can donate $25, $52, $100 or $250 or even more by clicking here.

Thank you, Friend.

SarahPAC

You will notice that they were in such a hurry to send this out that they did not even take the time to replace "FIRSTNAME" with the person;s actual first name.

You know I sometimes think that I can never be more disgusted with this family than I already am, but then that proves to be untrue.

Comedian D.L. Hughley has some advice for Sarah Palin that I really think she should take to heart.

You know assuming she has a heart.

Sarah Palin provides an update on husband Todd's condition.

Courtesy of Palin's Facebook page:

Todd Palin is in intensive care at an Alaskan hospital with injuries including multiple broken and fractured ribs, broken shoulder blade, broken clavicle, knee/leg injuries; and a collapsed lung. He is presently back in surgery to repair multiple fractures. Thank you for your prayers for a speedy recovery. We, as his wife and children, appreciate your respect for our privacy during this time. Knowing Todd, once he's cognizant, he'll probably ask docs to duct tape him up and he'll call it good. He's tough.

So when this was written Todd was "back in surgery?"

I guess that means that he already underwent surgery while his wife lazily made her way back to Alaska.

According to the news Todd was injured Sunday night, yet Palin did not "suddenly" quit pimping for Trump until just before 12:00 PM Florida time, only to later show up later and give a somewhat unhinged speech for him before actually leaving to fly up here to see to her husband.

Such a dutiful wife don't you think?

Now I have been thinking about these injuries of Todd's and I have to say that I am a little baffled.

Whatever your opinion of Todd Palin might be, I think we can all agree that he has spent a great deal of time on snowmachines and clearly knows how to ride safely.

And yet here he is in the hospital receiving multiple surgeries, not as the result of injuries sustained while engaged in a high speed Iron Dog race, but while out making what appears to be a beer run to Cubby's Marketplace. A trip I am confident that he has made numerous times in the past.

So how does one damn near kill themselves while taking a leisurely drive to the store, when there are no other vehicles involved in the accident?

Things that make you go "Hmm."

But don't you fret. After all it's not serious enough that his daughter Bristol is distracted from her grifting.

"Two men are in jail, one cow is dead. and three cars are totaled. We can't show you that video because the man was naked and covered in jello." Will never write a better headline than this.

Courtesy of the Live Leak page:

A computer tech for the Farmington school system was arrested for trying to have sex with a cow while another man shot video.

The cow was later hit by three cars that are now totaled. Two men are now in custody.

I have to confess that I have no good reason to share this story except for the opportunity to post that headline.

A man waits his entire life for such a chance, and I damn sure wasn't going to let mine just slip away.

How these newscasters kept a straight face is completely beyond me.

P.S. For those who simply cannot believe this is real.

After three year investigation, Scotland Yard deems case of MI6 spy found dead and locked in a bag, an accident. I'm sorry, what? Update!

Courtesy of the Guardian:

The MI6 spy found dead in a bag three years ago probably locked himself in the holdall and died as a result of a tragic accident, Scotland Yard has said.

Outlining the results of a three-year investigation on Wednesday, the Metropolitan police said Gareth Williams most likely died alone in his flat.

But Detective Assistant Commissioner Martin Hewitt said the police could not "fundamentally and beyond doubt" rule out the possibility that a third party was involved in his death.

Williams's naked body was found in the padlocked bag, with the keys discovered under his body, in the otherwise empty bath in his flat in Pimlico, central London, in August 2010.

Last year, a coroner concluded that Williams was probably unlawfully killed and his death the result of a criminal act. Following an eight-day inquest, the Westminster coroner, Dr Fiona Wilcox, said he was probably either suffocated or poisoned, before a third party locked and placed the bag in the bath.

But Hewitt said Scotland Yard's three-year inquiry had come to a different conclusion and that Williams was "most probably" alone when he died.

"Despite all of this considerable effort, it is still the case that there is insufficient evidence to be definitive on the circumstances that led to Gareth's death," he said.

"Rather, what we are left with is either individual pieces of evidence, or a lack of such evidence, that can logically support one of a number of hypotheses."

Hewitt added that the investigation had added "some clarity and detail" to the case, but that "no evidence has been identified to establish the full circumstances of Gareth's death beyond all reasonable doubt".

Look I don't want to tell Scotland Yard how to do their job but.....no scratch that, I really DO want to tell them how to do their job.

Listen when you find a naked dead guy locked in a bag, with the keys on the OUTSIDE of the bag, that pretty much rules out "accidental death."

I mean don't you think?

Seriously DON'T you think?

even if we were to entertain the possibility that this guy some hoe got off on zipping himself up naked in various pieces of luggage, HOW would locking the bag enhance that experience?

And while we are on the subject HOW in the fuck do you lock a bag from the inside, while leaving the keys on the outside?

My new rules is that if I am ever inclined to kill anybody I am flying us both to England first because apparently there you can get away with ANYTHING!

Update: Okay it appears that I read the part about the keys incorrectly, and that they were inside the bag instead of outside the bag. This changes the story from completely impossible to virtually impossible.

I continue to stand by my WTF response however.

Today's child shoots family member with unattended gun comes to us courtesy of Florida. (Actually that's where a LOT of them come from.)

Courtesy of My Fox Tampa Bay:

Detectives say a 4-year-old accidentally shot and injured their aunt – and the uncle is the one to blame.

It happened inside an SUV in the parking lot at 9017 East Adamo Drive.

The sheriff's office says the child's uncle, Randall Simmons, was showing the 4-year-old and 8-year-old his handgun. He then put the gun in the glove compartment, left the kids unattended, and a short time later, the child grabbed the gun. The child accidentally shot 30-year-old Shantell Wilson in the back.

Wilson was treated at the hospital, but the sheriff's office says the family was not cooperative with them.

Eventually, detectives said they were able to determine that Simmons had left the kids unattended with the gun in the vehicle.

A warrant for his arrest has been issued.

Thew uncle SHOWED the kids the guns.

Let them watch him put them into the glove compartment.

And then left them alone in the car.

Which led to the child's aunt being shot in the back.

Yeah he needs to be arrested alright. And then he needs to be kept as far away from children as possible for the rest of his life.

Remember folks, guns don't kill people,  but they make it so that even four year old children have the opportunity to do so.

10 dead after plane crashes in Alaska.

Courtesy of ADN:

An air taxi crashed at the Soldotna Airport on Sunday morning, killing all 10 people onboard in the worst aviation accident in Alaska in more than a decade.

The de Havilland DHC-3 Otter airplane crashed at 11:20 a.m. at the Soldotna Airport, according to the Alaska State Troopers and Soldotna Police Department. The plane was operated by Rediske Air, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The National Transportation Safety Board described the flight as an air taxi, but on Sunday evening was still trying to confirm who was onboard and where they were going.

This news really shook me this morning because my daughter is currently on the road for a television program.

However as I read the details I calmed down as she is driving in a rental car, with no plans as far as I know to fly anyplace, and this accident took place on the other side of Alaska from where she is supposed to be.

I wish I could say this kind of crash is a rarity, but up here it simply is not.

Many of you will undoubtedly remember that it was a plane crash  which ultimately took the life of Senators Stevens, and it has been plane crashes that have taken many Alaskan lives over the years.

My own experiences with flying on smaller planes have been nothing short of terrifying and I have tried to keep my daughter off of them over the years, which is difficult because sometimes her job requires traveling through parts of Alaska not easy to reach by the road system. (She DID in fact fly in a small plane for a job at one point and decided simply to forget to let me know. Not happy about that.)

Anyhow as you can imagine I feel badly for the people involved in this tragedy and my thoughts are with the families.

(Don't hold your breath waiting for a response from the Grizzled One, she is no longer interested in local problems. Especially if she cannot find someway to blame it on President Obama.)

The death of journalist Michael Hastings. IS this bothering anybody else, or is it just me?

Okay now if that video did not bother you enough there is also this:

WikiLeaks says journalist Michael Hastings, 33, killed in a fiery crash early Tuesday morning after his Mercedes plowed into a tree near the corners of Melrose and Highland Avenues, had contacted the organization hours earlier to say he was the subject of an FBI investigation.

The tweet, issued Wednesday to WikiLeaks' 1.9 million followers, reads, "Michael Hastings contacted WikiLeaks lawyer Jennifer Robinson just a few hours before he died, saying that the FBI was investigating him."

Here's the tweet:

Look I don't want to turn into Alex Jones here, but this thing really stinks and I cannot be the only person smelling it.

But then another part of me thinks that if you were going to murder a high profile journalist, WHY would you do it in such a suspicious manner? But then again the guy had no lack of enemies, both within the government and out, who would have liked to see him dead.

I don't know, I'm just saying that I am having some difficulty digesting this as an accident.

Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Now for something completely different. Perhaps the most chilling safety advertisement I have ever seen.

It is not often that a movie, commercial or short film, gets to me very often. But this one certainly did.

7 year old boy killed by father's careless handling of handgun.

Craig Allen Loughrey
Courtesy of Trib Live News:

A 7-year-old boy died on Saturday when he was shot by his father in an apparent accident outside a Mercer County gun shop, state police said.

Joseph V. Loughrey, 44, was getting into his truck holding a .9mm Taurus handgun when it discharged. The bullet struck his son, Craig Allen Loughrey, 7, in the chest, state police said. The boy died at the scene.

“I know that little kid was everything to him,” said Mark McLaughlin of Fredonia, a friend and co-worker of Loughrey’s at Superior Well Services in Fredonia.

State police said Loughrey told them he had emptied the magazine of the gun, but had no idea a bullet was still in the chamber.

“This happens all too often where people think the gun was empty,” said state police Lt. Eric Hermick.

A weapon that was undoubtedly purchased to protect his family, ends up taking the life of his son.

There is a very powerful message there, but I doubt that most in this gun happy society will be able to understand it.

How many times have we heard the phrase "I didn't think it was loaded." spoken after a tragedy like this? And when was the last time you heard a suspect in a stabbing use "I didn't know it was sharp" as an excuse?

There is a vast difference separating gun violence from other kinds of violence in America, and I think it is time that we as a country recognize that and stop making up excuses for the violence so that we can keep buying the guns.

Apparently Republican Senate candidate, and attorney, Joe Miller doesn't understand the law.

From the New York Times:

Joe Miller, the Republican candidate for Senate from Alaska, has been found at fault in a three-car accident that happened shortly after he took a narrow lead in the Republican primary.

The accident occurred Aug. 27, while the outcome of Mr. Miller’s race against Senator Lisa Murkowski remained unclear and thousands of ballots from the Aug. 24 election were left to be counted. No one was injured in the crash, which happened in Fairbanks, where Mr. Miller lives. Ms. Murkowski conceded the race on Aug. 31.

A release by the Alaska State Troopers on the day of the crash said that around 7:30 a.m., Mr. Miller rear-ended a vehicle that then struck the one ahead of it. No one was charged initially, but last week Mr. Miller was issued a citation for failing to exercise due caution to avoid a collision.

The driver of the front car, Mark Alan Lewis, was cited for stopping on a highway. Mr. Lewis, a medic, said in an interview that he had been in a left turn lane when he was struck. He said troopers told him that evidence showed that part of his vehicle was jutting into the lane of traffic to his right. He said he planned to contest the charge.

Mr. Lewis said his insurance company, USAA, which also insures Mr. Miller, had told him that Mr. Miller’s policy would pay for the accident costs, including a rental car Mr. Lewis has driven since the accident. “The trooper cited me in spite of the fact that Mr. Miller was held liable for the accident by the insurance company,” Mr. Lewis said.

A spokesman for Mr. Miller did not respond to requests for comment.

Okay many of you probably remember that I covered this accident back when it happened last Saturday, the day after it happened.

To your credit pretty much all of YOU knew right away that since Joe Miller's car was the first to impact another vehicle, and that he did so form the rear, that HE would be in the wrong.  However surprisingly Joe Miller, an attorney practicing in Alaska, did not seem to have the same grasp of law that all of you had.

From the Fairbanks Newsminer:

A Miller campaign spokesman said that Miller, an attorney, was not one of the drivers at fault. The former federal magistrate judge and Gulf War veteran was scheduled to argue in court Friday morning and had also agreed to be interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, according to campaign spokesman Randy DeSoto.

“We spoke about it briefly,” DeSoto said. “He said that he did some damage to his truck. I think he’s a little sore. We didn’t get a chance to talk about it a lot. From what Joe told me, it wasn’t his fault.”
Read more: Fairbanks Daily News-Miner - U S Senate candidate Miller in vehicle accident in Fairbanks

So, to be clear, the man who wants to go to Washington in order to pass legislation and vote on new laws and regulations, does not understand that when HE is driving the car which is the first to make impact in a three car accident that HE is at least one of the people at fault?

Or does he only understand the laws that do not find that HE is in the wrong?  And who does THAT sound like?

Come on Alaska!  Wake up!  We can do so much better than this.
