New York Congressman, and felony tax evader, Michael Grimm finally resigns.

Rep. Michael Grimm announced late Monday night plans to resign from Congress, after pleading guilty to a felony tax evasion charge last week. 

The announcement came just hours after a source familiar with Grimm's thinking told CNN he would resign "sooner rather than later," after the New York Daily News broke the news of Grimm's plans to step down. 

"After much thought and prayer, I have made the very difficult decision to step down from Congress effective January 5th, 2015. This decision is made with a heavy heart, as I have enjoyed a very special relationship and closeness with my constituents, whom I care about deeply," Grimm said in a statement issued shortly before midnight by his office. 

The Staten Island congressman was indicted in April on 20 counts relating to his health food restaurant, Healthalicious, including charges that he filed false tax returns; engaged in mail fraud, wire fraud and perjury; and knowingly hired undocumented workers. 

House Speaker John Boehner called Grimm's decision to step down "honorable" in a statement on Tuesday.

You know there are a lot of slimy politicians in Congress, but this guy was one of the slimiest. 

And it is somewhat unbelievable that despite the fact that he certain to be convicted he was still reelected.

And don't forget this is the same shit heel who threatened to throw a reporter off a balcony and break him in half "like a boy."

Congressman Michael Grimm does not believe that pleading guilty to a felony is any reason to lose his job.

"What do you mean what an I doing here today? I work here."

Rep. Michael G. Grimm, New York Republican, said Tuesday he does not plan to resign his seat after pleading guilty to one felony tax charge tied to activities involving a restaurant he co-owned prior to winning election to Congress in 2010. 

Grimm pleaded guilty to helping prepare a false tax return, a charge stemming from a 20-count indictment against the congressman handed up in April. The former FBI agent faces up to three years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced June 8. 

The indictment accused Grimm of understating gross receipts and employee wages at a health restaurant he had co-owned by more than $1 million. 

After his court appearance, Grimm apologized for his actions and said what he did was wrong but said he does not plan to step down. 

“I’m going to get back to work and work as hard as I can,” he said. 

No you're not. You don't get to do that.  Does he?

Well apparently so far nobody is locking him out of his office or dragging him off the floor of Congress in handcuffs, so I guess he can.

I mean sure the Democrats are pitching a fit and calling for Boehner to give this criminal the heave ho, but who listens to them anymore?

Rep. Michael Grimm is in federal custody as the New York Republican awaits his indictment on federal criminal charges, according to sources close to the case. 

Loretta Lynch, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, will unveil a grand jury indictment against Grimm this morning. The allegations - Grimm will face well over a dozen charges - include mail and wire fraud, filing false tax returns and health care payments, hiring undocumented workers and obstruction of justice, according to sources close to the case. 

You all might remember Grimm as the congressman who threatened to throw a reporter off a balcony and break him in half.

Of course Grimm is claiming that the charges against him are false and that he is not guilty:

Rep. Michael Grimm has vowed to stay in office after he pleaded not guilty Monday to a 20-count federal indictment that includes charges of mail, wire and tax fraud. 

The Staten Island Republican was arraigned in Brooklyn and released on $400,000 bond. 

“I will get right back to work as I always have — with honor and distinction, I will serve,” Grimm told reporters in Brooklyn on Monday. “And then, on top of all that, I have an election to win.” 

But then what would you expect somebody like this to say when they are finally  forced to face the music?

The guy is clearly a real piece of shit, and now it looks like he is about to get flushed.
