The Russians used Facebook to organize anti-immigration protests to stir up Trump supporters during campaign.

Courtesy of the Daily Beast:

Russian operatives hiding behind false identities used Facebook’s event-management tool to remotely organize and promote political protests in the U.S., including an August 2016 anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim rally in Idaho, The Daily Beast has learned.

A Facebook spokesperson confirmed to The Daily Beast that the social-media giant “shut down several promoted events as part of the takedown we described last week.” The company declined to elaborate, except to confirm that the events were promoted with paid ads. (This is the first time the social-media giant has publicly acknowledged the existence of such events.)

The Facebook events—one of which echoed Islamophobic conspiracy theories pushed by pro-Trump media outlets—are the first indication that the Kremlin’s attempts to shape America’s political discourse moved beyond fake news and led unwitting Americans into specific real-life action.

“This is the next step,” Clint Watts, a former FBI agent and expert on Russia’s influence campaign, told The Daily Beast. “The objective of influence is to create behavior change. The simplest behavior is to have someone disseminate propaganda that Russia created and seeded. The second part of behavior influence is when you can get people to physically do something.”

I swear the more we learn about how hard the Russians worked to help get Trump elected the more we have to wonder just what was promised to them for their efforts.

The lifting of sanctions, open access to the White House, a green light for more oil exploration in the Arctic?

All of that seems reasonable, but I cannot help but think that there was even more to it than that.

I don't always drunkenly live tweet a political speech, but when I do you can bet it is a Donald Trump crazy ass anti-immigrant speech.

To be fair I started off being perfectly sober.
But then things got crazy.

And then I went a little Gif crazy.

And then I started to go a little crazy crazy.

And then thankfully it all came to an end.
Afterwards I felt drained and like I should be searching for affordable housing in Canada.

But I pulled my shit together and realized that Donald Trump had just taken the long predicted pivot and shoved it right up the Hispanic community's ass.

And yep, they noticed.

Courtesy of Politico:

Several major Latino surrogates for Donald Trump are reconsidering their support for him following the Republican nominee’s hardline speech on immigration Wednesday night.

Jacob Monty, a member of Trump’s National Hispanic Advisory Council, has resigned, and Alfonso Aguilar, the president of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, said in an interview that he is “inclined” to pull his support.

“I was a strong supporter of Donald Trump when I believed he was going to address the immigration problem realistically and compassionately,” said Monty, a Houston attorney who has aggressively made the Latino case for Trump. “What I heard today was not realistic and not compassionate.”

He withdrew from the board following Trump’s speech in Phoenix, which was heavy on calls for border security and emphasized that all immigrants in the country illegally were subject to deportation.

Yeah I think Trump's chances of attracting more than a handful of Hispanic votes is somewhere between slim and no fucking way.

And any argument that he is willing, or even capable of change is now completely off the table.

In other words everything is right back to where everybody with half a brain should have already realized it would end up.

Now I am simply awaiting the sweet sweet political ads the Clinton campaign is throwing together with Trump's own words from last night.

The excitement at the Republican convention is almost palpable. If the word "palpable" meant something completely different.

I have to admit that even I nave been a little surprised by the lack of enthusiasm inside the convention building.

It is almost like the people who are showing up feel obligated to be there, but once inside can barely bring themselves to clap or cheer for the majority of the folks up on stage.

But if Trump inspires so little enthusiasm among the Republicans then who is it that helped him to win the nomination?

If you have about 30 minutes the BBC might provide that answer in a rather terrifying documentary called "Trump's Angry America."

Here is the old McCain campaign ad with subtitles in Spanish, that the new McCain campaign had pulled from YouTube.

Courtesy of The Hill:

A campaign ad for Sen. John McCain's 2010 reelection bid was blocked on YouTube earlier this week, per a request from the Arizona Republican's 2016 reelection campaign.

The ad was uploaded by the campaign of McCain challenger Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Ariz.), and it was unmodified except for the addition of Spanish subtitles. The spot shows McCain walking by the border fence and telling Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu to "complete the danged fence."

"John McCain is trying to hide his comments and agenda from the Latino community and Arizonans now that he admits he's caught in the 'race of his life,' " said D.B. Mitchell, a Kirkpatrick campaign spokesman.

Now the McCain campaign claims that the reason they blocked the ad was due to a copyright violation.

But it that were true then why is the ad back up now?

You know if I were a suspicious feller I might just think that ole John McCain is a little embarrassed by the anti-immigrant fervor he embraced in 2010, and worried that it might do his campaign serious damage in a more enlightened 2016 campaign season.

You know, if I was a suspicious feller.

Sarah Palin gushes over the new face of the far right French political party Front National.

Source

"I have a political crush."

That's how Palin's mash note in Breitbart to Marion Maréchal-Le Pen begins.

Palin (Okay well mostly her ghostwriter.) continues to get all girl crushy on this newest face of the French party whose founder, and her grandfather, once said that the Holocaust was "a point of detail of the history of the Second World War."

The Front National is decidedly pro-law and order and anti-immigration. And Marion Maréchal-Le Pen has been called the "French Donald Trump."

Palin offers this defense:

What she’s saying should not be controversial. It’s common sense. The western values enjoyed by every French citizen regardless of their religion are necessarily rooted in those 16 Christian centuries. Our understanding of human rights and human dignity comes from the Judeo-Christian worldview that shaped modern Europe. If you transplant to your shores a foreign population that’s hostile to the very things your country stands for, you won’t have a country for very long. This is the hard truth. You can’t maintain a peaceful liberal democracy with people who want to impose Sharia law on you.

But for some reason saying this out loud is considered “hate speech” or xenophobia in Europe. They can even press criminal charges against you for it!

Somewhere right now Donald Trump is imagining the xenophobic threesome to beat all xenophobic threesomes.

Palin even makes it easy for us to see the similarities between Maréchal-Le Pen and our own Right Wing nuts:

We see the same thing happening here in America. Call it the rise of the populists. Pundits are already seeing the similarities between Marion and Marine Le Pen, Donald Trump, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)97% . All are non-establishment candidates taking on corrupt, entrenched, and detached political elites who are more interested in preserving their own power than in defending their countries.

It’s time to wake up, America. Nowhere in Europe or America is safe from this Great War against the Death Cult. San Bernardino wasn’t a one-off phenomenon. ISIS is already here. According to a House Homeland Security report, over 250 people in the U.S. have attempted to join ISIS (that we know about), and 82 have been caught in ISIS plots. Meanwhile, the FBI has nearly 1,000 open cases involving ISIS that we know of.

Nope, no Islamophobic hyperbole there.

As the Guardian points out, there are plenty of reasons for Palin to admire Maréchal-Le Pen

Maréchal-Le Pen has stood out for adopting socially conservative stances that are more extreme than her aunt, Marine. She was a key figure in France’s anti-gay marriage demonstrations of 2013.

She has opposed the French state providing free abortions, saying some women should pay for them.

Oh yeah, anti-immigration, anti-gay, anti-abortion, you can almost hear Palin's panties getting damp.

Well I think it's too early to blame this on the "Palin curse" but it seems that Maréchal-Le Pen's popularity was not enough to carry the day in France:

The party was beaten into third place, despite leading in six of 13 regions in the first round of voting a week ago.

The centre-right Republicans finished ahead of President Francois Hollande's governing Socialist Party.

Of course the party's current leader Marine Le Pen, also Maréchal-Le Pen's aunt, blamed the loss on the fact that the other parties colluded to keep Front National out of power.

Somehow I doubt that this is the last we are going to hear from Maréchal-Le Pen, unless of course the Palin curse still has enough power to reach across the Atlantic Ocean.

Louie Gohmert for President? Is ANYBODY wingnutty enough to want that to happen? Oh yeah.

Courtesy of Right Wing Watch:

Anti-immigrant activist William Gheen, the head of Americans for Legal Immigration, stopped by VCY America’s “Crosstalk” program yesterday to discuss how a coalition of “big tycoons and kings and princes and emperors” is trying to take America down through immigration, thus taking away power from Americans who celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas and the Fourth of July, and his cunning plan to stop this from happening by having Rep. Louie Gohmert or Rep. Steve King ascend to the presidency.

“The megawealth of the planet has never really been happy about the United States of America and this entire concept that we the people are self-governed and in charge and that big tycoons and kings and princes and emperors, like Obama’s acting like, are not in charge,” Gheen said. “And they’ve found a way to take over our corporations, to take over our media, to take over our country by facilitating a very costly and deadly illegal alien invasion.”

He warned that Americans are in “mortal danger” from immigration and from the “growing anti-Christ spirit and anti-Christ movement in this country that is becoming stronger and more emboldened as the traditional conservative center-right Americans are displaced in our jobs and our politics and elections.”

Aww, the brown people are giving this William Gheen guy a case of the sads.

So does he have some plan for turning this whol thing around?

Oh hell yeah!

But luckily, Gheen has a solution. When a caller asked about how to “remove Obama from office,” Gheen proposed a simple plan. First, he said, “we’re working on Boehner and McConnell right now because those dominos have to fall and we can move to the next phase.”

The next phase, he said, would be for Congress to impeach and remove both President Obama and Vice President Biden.

Then the final piece of the puzzle comes into place: get Rep. Louie Gohmert or Rep. Steve King elected Speaker of the House, so he can ascend to the presidency until the next election is held.

Okay well first off that is the most convoluted plot I have heard in some time, and I have been binge watching the BBC series "Sherlock" for the last several days.

And secondly, though I do not usually consider myself the type to take up arms against my government, if somehow Louie "freaking" Gohmert were to be put in charge of the country you can bet I will be leading the northern resistance out of Alaska.

And here I thought the worst thing that could happen is for Sarah Palin to be elected President.
