Man is God mad at Texas!

Courtesy of WaPo:

Through Sunday morning, Harvey continued to unleash record levels of rain on Houston, causing “catastrophic” flooding in the city and in surrounding Harris County. At least one storm-related death in Houston was reported on Sunday, after a woman was found dead by her water-deluged car.

Over 24 hours, the greater Houston and Galveston area received 24.1 inches of rain. The National Weather Service warned of “additional catastrophic, unprecedented and life threatening flooding” into the next week, and placed flash-flood emergencies for all of Southeast Texas.

As the much-anticipated storm pummeled the country’s fourth-largest city — overwhelming the 911 system and sending some residents, against the advice of officials, into their attics to flee floodwaters — many asked the question: Should Houston have been evacuated? If so, why wasn’t it?

At least one official thought it should have been.

I sometimes give Texas a hard time. which they mostly deserve.

But right now my heart goes out the folks dealing with this catastrophe.

Apparently Harvey has already dropped nine trillion tons of water.

I read that there may be four to five days more of this kind of rain, which means that the people of Houston, and the surrounding areas, may just be seeing the beginnings of the problems to come
Though I have to say it is hard to imagine how things could get much worse.

Especially with this guy in charge.

Yep, he's on top of things.

You know if I were one of those kinds of people, you know which ones I mean, I might claim that this is evidence of God's wrath called down upon the people of Texas for trying to take away a woman's right to choose, or trying to suppress the vote, or anti-LGBTQ legislation, or sending Ted Cruz to the Senate, or because they keep threatening to secede, or any number of other offenses which might trouble an omnipotent being.

You know, if I were one of THOSE kind of people.

Which I'm not.

Update: Well SOMEBODY needs to act like a President.
And who better?

"I'd been hiding this for over a decade. I wasn't out." Rebecca Vitsmun talks about the day she came out as an Atheist on national television after surviving the Oklahoma tornado.

I know this is a little long, but at the 8:28 portion Rebecca starts to tell the story of her interview with Wolf Blitzer. However it is around the 9:40 mark that she tells what it is like to be put in a position that every Atheist living in the Bible Belt fears.

Her emotion is so raw, and so honest, that it may serve to explain to those who are religious what it is like for those of us living in America who are not.

Yesterday somebody mentioned that at times like these it would really be nice if we could still be comforted by Mr. Rogers. I could not agree more.

Well I feel better, how about all of you?

And do you know what? I think Mr. Rogers advice is for adults too.

After all it is not only children that sometimes feel the need to be comforted.

Bristol Palin book signing in Fredericksburg, yet another Texas sized tragedy for the family of grifters.

Courtesy of the delightfully named blog, I Tried Being Tasteful:

We didn’t attend the big event which kicked off at 6 pm because we had the grandkids here and because we really didn’t give a hoot. However we did end up at Walmart later in the evening after our weekly pilgrimage to McDonald’s.

When my husband was checking out at Walmart he went to the express checkout that happened to be right next to the area where Ms. Palin had been holding court.

The checker had been there the whole time and said that Bristol had left after only 20 mins. to a half hour of signing. There was even a point where there was no one waiting, so she graciously (to her credit) went around and introduced herself to the employees in the area.

In the grand tradition of her Mama Grizzly, she’d brought little Tripp (have I got the name right? With all the Tripps, Tracks, Trigs, etc., it’s hard to keep up) along for added value. No Sarah, though.

What kind of a country is this, where a hateful, over privileged, young "single mother" cannot attempt to destroy the reputation of her baby's father by essentially accusing him of date rape and then get paid millions of dollars for it?  I thought this was America!

And this happened in TEXAS!  Where else in the WHOLE world could Bristol Palin hope to be more welcomed than in Texas?

(P.S. Please visit the link to the blog that printed this story.  I am sure you agree they deserve some IM love for this awesome post!)

Rachel Maddow explains what is happening with the nuclear reactors in Japan. And it is NOT good.

As many of you may have noticed, Rachel has become my go-to person to explain what is happening in the world.  To my mind NOBODY breaks the information down and makes it as easily digestible as Rachel Maddow.

And this is extremely horrifying information, so having somebody as clear headed and well informed as my favorite MSNBC host explain it to us, may not make it less frightening, but it does allow us to know exactly what we are facing.

Update:

Officials say dangerous levels of radiation were detected after a third explosion rocked a nuclear plant damaged in last week's earthquake.

People living within 19 miles of the facility are being told to avoid drinking tap water, and keep their houses air tight.

This reminds me of the instructions children in the US received to hide under their desks in the event of a nuclear attack.  It does not seem like sufficient protection to keep families safe this close to the reactors. They should evacuate these people in my opinion.
