Gay couples may soon be able to have biological children with their partners. Religious conservative heads to explode in 3..2..1

Gay couples could one day have their own biological children carrying traits from both parents, according to new research.

A reproductive technique yet to be tried on humans would be able to use sperm from two fathers, or eggs from two mothers, to create offspring related to them both.

Such a breakthrough could even lead to 'multiplex parenting' with groups of more than two, or children created by just one parent.

So much for the argument that God determines when life begins.

As the father of a gay child, this makes me very hopeful.

It also kind of makes me wonder just how much longer it will be before science completely does away with sickness and death? And then what becomes of us once it does?

Idaho Republican lawmaker does not seem to understand human reproduction.

"Wait. where do babies come from?"
Courtesy of the Star Tribune:

An Idaho lawmaker received a brief lesson on female anatomy after asking if a woman can swallow a small camera for doctors to conduct a remote gynecological exam.

The question Monday from Republican state Rep. Vito Barbieri came as the House State Affairs Committee heard nearly three hours of testimony on a bill that would ban doctors from prescribing abortion-inducing medication through telemedicine.

Barbieri later said that the question was rhetorical and intended to make a point.

Dr. Julie Madsen, a physician who said she has provided various telemedicine services in Idaho, was testifying in opposition to the bill. She said some colonoscopy patients may swallow a small device to give doctors a closer look at parts of their colon.

"Can this same procedure then be done in a pregnancy? Swallowing a camera and helping the doctor determine what the situation is?" Barbieri asked. Madsen replied that would be impossible because swallowed pills do not end up in the vagina.

"Fascinating. That makes sense," Barbieri said, amid the crowd's laughter.

You know I have long believed that Republicans do not understand how a woman makes another human being, and this just proves it.

I'm surprised this simpleton is not suggesting shooting storks out of the sky as a contraception measure.

Where DO they find these people?

The Wendy Davis story.

This is an incredible video that they made over at HuffPo, and it REALLY shows just how heroic State Senator Wendy Davis was, and I found it very inspiring. And the brutality that the protesters endured in the attempt to have their voices heard.

This is the kind of leadership that we need in the Democratic party, and this is the kind of dedication that it takes to hold the Republicans at bay.

There is of course every chance that this law will still pass, but Wendy Davis has opened the eyes of the women of Texas and re-energized those who perhaps felt they could not stand against the Republican juggernaut in that state.

Winning a battle does not win a war, but if women want to maintain control over their own reproductive organs they need to start turning out to fight every bill that would turn them back into breeders and strip them of their right to control their own destinies.

Female California Republican leader says " percentage of pregnancies due to rape is small because it's an act of violence." I didn't know Todd Akin had a sister!

Oh that Marco Rubio! Always surrounding himself with the best of the Republican party!

A California Republican leader may have inadvertently revived the controversial subject of rape and pregnancy.

Before arriving at the state GOP's spring convention here, Celeste Greig told this newspaper that pregnancies by rape are rare "because it's an act of violence, because the body is traumatized."

Grieg is the president of the conservative California Republican Assembly, the state's oldest and largest GOP volunteer organization. Ronald Reagan once called it "the conscience of the Republican Party."

Ironically, Greig was in the midst of criticizing former Missouri U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin for saying that victims of "legitimate rape" rarely get pregnant because "the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down." It was a remark that many believe led not only to his defeat in November but also helped tarnish the Republican brand around the country.

"That was an insensitive remark," Greig said. "I'm sure he regretted it. He should have come back and apologized."

Greig, however, went on to say: "Granted, the percentage of pregnancies due to rape is small because it's an act of violence, because the body is traumatized. I don't know what percentage of pregnancies are due to the violence of rape. Because of the trauma the body goes through, I don't know what percentage of pregnancy results from the act."

You know perhaps we ought to take our focus off of teaching sex ed classes to kids, and instead start offering them to Republican politicians.

Hey maybe THIS is why their are fewer and fewer Republicans these days, They don't understand how reproduction works!
