Rick Perry, realizing he "don't talk good," may decide to skip future debates. How...Presidential of him?

Apparently this is not the first time Perry has refused to debate.
Courtesy of CBS News:

There appears to be consensus in the Rick Perry campaign that skipping some future debates may be the best strategy for the Texas governor.

In an interview Wednesday with CNN's John King, Perry's communications director Ray Sullivan said it would be impossible for Perry to participate in all of the remaining debates scheduled to take place before the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses.

"There have been eight Republican debates, we've done five," Sullivan said. "There are somewhere around 18 debates pending. There is no way to do all of them, particularly as the elections are rapidly approaching in Iowa and New Hampshire."

Earlier in the day, another Perry spokesman, Mark Miner, made a similar comment to Politico, saying that with primaries and caucuses around the corner, "you have to use your time accordingly."

Perry, who frequently self-deprecates his skills as a debater, on Tuesdaytold Bill O'Reilly that he might have made a mistake participating in the debates because they were designed to spur fighting among the candidates. In his campaigns for Texas governor, Perry was known for ducking debates. Perry and his advisers are chafing over the time debate preparations are taking for him chance to interact with voters -- or donors.

Both Miner and Sullivan said that Perry would participate in the next debate, set for Nov. 9 in Michigan. But afterwards, neither advisor is making promises about where Perry will or won't participate.

So essentially Perry is taking a page right out of he Sarah Palin "playbook for success."

I believe it says on page one: "Avoid standing next to more competent politicians on the stage, and discussing things you simply will NEVER understand. But if you have no choice, make sure to wink a lot and call them 'Joe'."

Lets' face it Perry, who barely has a chance NOW of beating Romney, will have NO chance if he drops out of the debates early. I mean come on, he should at least go down fighting!

What do they say in Texas? Oh yeah, "Remember the Alamo!"

It kind of shames the memories of those fine, brave, testosterone driven Texans, who refused to surrender right up until a Mexican bayonet plunged through their breastbone, for Rick Perry to go hide under his bed at the thought of having to stand on a stage and explain to the American people that he is NOT just a dipshit from Texas, and that if they will give him the chance he can lead this country with the same competence on display during the George W. Bush administration.

And who doesn't want to see a return to that?

Besides, how bad was Perry's debate performance really?

You know, maybe Perry has a point.

Geez, how many more of these debates do we need to endure? GOP just needs to select the least offensive (or most offensive, given the mindset of their base) loser of the bunch and nominate them already.

The stupid is very strong on that one. Such easy talking points on Romney's flip-flopping, and the idyut can't get it right.

  3. Before the grammar police jump down my throat, let me explain that the spelling and grammatical errors in the CBS article are all on them. I only cut and pasted the content, and it would be unethical for me to correct it.

Any other mistakes are TOTALLY my fault and my only defense is that I was drunk, or tired, or both.

Gryphen, I'm almost done with my fake profile of Rick Perry. I'm just waiting for comments from former Journey bandmates guitarist Neal Schon and drummer Jonathon Cain.

But I'm VERY pleased with the following fake profile for the electrifying Herb Cain:

Herb Cain, this week's GOP primary campaign front-runner, is legendary in the highly competitive fast-food industry and best known for developing middle-tier nondescript Grampa's Pizza - once known as "the mini-Pizza Hut" of mediocre mass-market corporate pizza - into "the mini-Domino's Pizza" of mediocre mass-market corporate pizza.

He is also a prolific writer currently flogging the tepid "Goddamn It, I'm Herb Cain! My Cakewalk to The Presidency". Previous books include "How I, Herb Cain, Will Win A Pulitzer Prize For This Book", and "Herb! Winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize".

Unburdened by the need to actually campaign for the GOP presidential nomination in key primary states such as Iowa and New Hampster, Cain is working on a memoir entitled "Herb Cain, The Post-Presidential Years".

Cain has garnered tremendous attention with his simple-to-understand 9-9-9 pizza marketing system. Simply stated, he's offering a nine inch thin crust pizza with nine greasy toppings for just nine dollars. And lower-income customers will have the 9-0-9 plan whereby they get a nine inch pizza with zero toppings, also for nine dollars.

When questioned about the fairness of giving poor people less than what a rich person would get for the same money, Cain explained convincingly "If the good Lord, in his infinite wisdom, chooses to make you poor, who am I to argue? And with the Creator of the Universe already against you, getting a good pizza value is hardly your biggest problem."

When asked what he plans to do if he doesn't win his improbable bid for the White House, Cain said "Running for the American presidency isnt a job you do for a year or two and then quit. It's a lifetime career. The money is good, there's the travel, the nice accommodations. People treat you nice. No, I plan on running for many, many years to come."

And you're right. Perry is an idiot.

I always liked the adage--Don't mess with Texas.

Of course this wouldn't actually include the governor of Texas because he won't be around to get messed with as he'll be hiding behind his wife (hopefully Anita "Big Foot in Mouth" is still speaking for him).

Good old Rick, dumb and chicken.

I disagree with the assertion that Perry isnt a good debater. To the contrary, I find him to be a mastur debater. Watch the videos to witness how skillfully he plays with his adversaries and with himself.

Not many years back, anyone showing THAT much stupidity would be laughed right out of politics, and we'd never have to hear from him again.

I watched that shrew Megyn Kelly on Fox, word a question to someone, which basically phrased it as though, discounting all the UNAMERICAN people on both coasts, who think they are all "educated" and everything, what do YOU think of abortion?

I sure hope this trend of treating intelligence as a harmful trait, goes away soon.

Its pretty obvious why the rightwing is so anti-education, how else can they continue to inflict their utter bullshit on their fans?

But, I'm STILL waiting for the ones who I know ARE breathing, thinking people, to react to Mitch McConnell's admission that his party is purposely destroying the nation's economy, simply to make Obama look bad, with:

HEY! WAIT A MINUTE, NOW, MAN...I DIDN'T SIGN ON FOR ANYTHING LIKE THAT!

  14. P.Rick and his dumbass wife still don't realize that they're not in Texas anymore. Perry has sold his state to the highest birders, then appointed those winners to influential positions and boards, and ferried favorable legislation to their various companies. Perry's been, bought, paid for, and protected in Texas for so long he doesn't beleve this will hurt him at all, and he's too dumb think otherwise.

Fortunately, even Republicans outside Texas see thru his act. Being an idiot, beady eyed knuckle dragging governor from Texas doesn't help much either.

And now Gov. Perry has come out AGAINST Confederate flag license plates in Texas-- i.e. he just alienated the redneck Southern vote.

Gah, it's like he's TRYING to run the stupidest campaign ever.

(FWIW, I applaud his stance against license plates celebrate past treason, but I suspect his statement falls into the "even a broken clock..." category.)

ANYBODY from ANY party who can't handle debates is telegraphing that they can't handle being president.

Does P.Rick think that being POTUS is going to be easier than ANY debate? I guess he thinks that Putin and Ahmadinejad will submit their questions to him in advance and agree to stay on the script.

    What a moron.

God bless Texas and it's fine people. That said, they sure do elect some real dumbass governors.

Perry is wise to avoid debates. He's inarticulate and dim. I'd love to see him debate Palin. They'd both probably just hold up bumper stickers at each other. Or, get blisters on their thumbs from frantically tweeting empty platitudes back and forth.

The movie Idiocracy is becoming more and more relevant.

If he were going to return to Austin and actually do the job he is paid to (pretend to) do, it would be one thing, but Perry, like Sarah, appears to prefer to be outside his state raising money instead of actually doing anything hard, like stopping fires, insuring that the children in his state are fed, healthy, and educated, and paying attention to bills. Betcha if he has to sign an execution order, he'll be right there, though. Moron...who thought this guy would be a good candidate anyway...Rove?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anonymous10:50 AM

And this is OK? A presidential candidate who can't talk about issues is allowed to bow out and this is presented as a smart political strategy?

For four days straight, Perry tried to open up the birther debate again. What does this say about this racist moron (to borrow another poster's apt description)?

Pat Buchanan has been on the book tour circuit lamenting the decline of the white man. Well, heck, with folks like Perry running for office, is there any wonder.

Now, a debate between those two would lower IQs worldwide.

speaking "dumb-bell" is a prerequisite to be a member of the republican party.

and for the right wing part of the party you need to be able to speak dumb-bell and 'racist blather", like palin.

  33. Anonymous1:37 PM

Well, finally someone is calling out our Governor Goodhair: read Matt Taibbi in the November ROLLING STONE article that details how Perry has no absolute bottom, no low beyond which he will not sink for money. It would be shocking if I hadn't lived in Texas all these years and watched him sell off , and sell out, everything someone wanted to buy. He is a much more disgusting POS than Bush ever was - and that's saying a lot.

The whole point of having a debate is for the candidates to differentiate themselves.

Instead of taking his cue from his campaign staff and plausibly leaving it at needing to use his limited time effectively, he's just admitted that he's doing poorly in the debates and can't afford any more en masse viewing of his ineptitude.

Obama has got to be looking at the Republican field as a gift. I've voted for a lot of Republicans, but once again, it looks like they will choose one I just can't bring myself to vote for.

He must look pretty badly to the residents of TX having him as their governor. Bet they don't re elect him, if he runs again. But, perhaps he cannot again as his tenure is already pretty long.

People I know in TX absolutely detest the man.

He is arrogant and very much reminds me of Palin.

Rick Perry and Sarah Palin are two turds in a pod!

Perry and Palin are both cowards.

The debates to Perry is like Katie Couric asking Palin questions like what do you read and after fucking up the debates Perry like Sarah now refuses to answer questions in and from the public.

Palin will only talk with safe interviewers liker FOX people where she can get the questions in advance and she can use a teleprompter.
