Artillery shell fired in gun show travels three miles before striking resident's home in Oklahoma.

Courtesy of KOAM TV:

A homeowner in Wyandotte, Oklahoma is awaiting damage assessments after an artillery shell entered his home.

It was fired at the Oklahoma Full Auto Shoot and Trade Show on Saturday, around 3 miles a way.

Homeowner Gene Kelley could not fathom what he found after hearing a large crash inside his home.

"It's unbelievable," Kelley said. "Unless you were here to see it or see the pictures I've got, you would not believe how huge this thing is."

A 105 howitzer artillery shell, 14 and a half inches long and 3 and a half inches across, was lying on his bedroom floor.

It entered from the outside wall, hit the ceiling, and damaged another wall, all while he and his wife were home.

"Fortunately, nobody was hurt," Kelley said.

Homeowners say if the shell had not first hit a tree limb and then the ground, the impact would have been a lot more severe when it hit the house.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department says the shell came from a historic artillery canon fired at the gun show.

The gun range owner says the weapon was fired safely by professionals at a downward projection.

"It was not on a level plane, but on a downward trend, pointed downhill in the bottom of a valley," said Mike Friend, Owner of Fast Machine Gun Shoot. "For that thing to rise and go far northwest of the range, it's just unheard of."

Both he and the homeowner describe it as an absurd occurrence.

An "absurd occurrence?" How absurd would they think it was if that shell had hit and killed somebody's child?

You know I have been to military shows where there were cannons fired that held blanks, which made an impressive boom but no shell was fired. I simply do not understand the thinking which went into the decision to live fire a howitzer.

What is that saying? It's all fun and games until somebody gets hit with a howitzer shell?

On the other hand I am sure the ammosexuals who attended that show creamed their pants when the howitzer fired. That is like a bullet riddles bukkake for those folks.

I live in Oklahoma and when I saw this on the local news my first thought was "That's one that Gryphen is going to jump on". Keep up the good work, maybe some day people will come to their senses but I'm not holding my breath.

Santorum's appearing with Baldy Wigwam tonight. I wonder if she will endorse him since Cruz & Paul have both now supported Thad Cochran, their Senate colleague from MS, instead of the KKKBagger McDaniel.

This leaves Sarah behind eating a shit sammich for dinner with Mister Shitty Britches Santorum in East TN.

Can't wait to see the pics from this loserfest.

Leader of Open Carry Texas, C.J. Grisham, who lost his eligibility to hold a Concealed Carry License in Texas due to a conviction speaks about his continuing battle with PTSD.

...Since that moment Grisham, who is ineligible to conceal carry due to a criminal conviction, has been trumpeting around the state as a gun rights activist, educating the public on the laws currently on the books in his home state that pertain to firearms. He is also pushing to expand open-carry be allowed for handguns, as there is currently a statewide ban.

His arguments and reasoning for doing so boil down to the concept that most people just don’t understand guns and that there are myths about their inherent dangers. Interestingly, the facts don’t match up with his preconceived position.

For Joni "Pig Bullocks" Ernst, it would just be another "unfortunate accident."

It entered from the outside wall, hit the ceiling, and …

Clearly the shell was on an upwards trajectory at this point, having "first hit a tree limb and then the ground"—this when the shell was almost spent. There was enough energy left for the shell to bounce, rather than just burying itself in the ground. Yet when the shell left the barrel "at a downward projection" these turkeys did not anticipate that it would hit the ground at a grazing angle, at something close to muzzle velocity, and bounce?

According to Mike Friend, this behaviour "[is] just unheard of." Well, now he's heard of it, and seen the results. I heard of it decades ago. Back in WWII days, a coastal defence gun at the south end of Vancouver Island was fired, contrary to regulations, "at a downward projection" with the result that the shell skipped across the Strait of Juan de Fuca and lodged in a Port Angeles WA building.

People who like to play with things that go bang. Sigh…

I hope that the homeowner sues the gun show people and that the gun show people are prosecuted for reckless endangerment, at the very least. Not only could a child have been killed but a whole family could have been wiped out.

If that had hit a gas line, a propane tank or a furnace, it could have caused an enormous explosion and fire.

Sadly, this type of damage is not covered by homeowners insurance because the Second Amendment and The Bible specifically declare that all projectile damage - bullets to bunker busters - is a de facto Act of God.

As Jeebus says in Cordite 21:12 "If you wake up to find an artillery shell has been fired thru your bedroom wall, look in to your own soul to ask why God hates you so much, yea verily".

I spent 18 years in the Artillery. They are a bunch of liars. No way that traveled that far on a downward slope with a barrel pointed down. An absurd occurrence my behind the guy must have offered him a lot of money.

  15. I hope the homeowner sues the gun show for the full cost of repairs. Let the gun show tell the judge it was fired "safely" and pointed down. Right before the judge reams him a new one and rules for the homeowner.

I'm just glad to hear this was done by "professionals", who are knowledgeable about trajectories, angles, planes, speed and distance and local building codes. Can anyone imagine some aroused amateur ammosexual "showing off"?
