Nearly 200 theaters will be showing the movie "1984" today. Can you guess why?

Courtesy of The Hill:

Nearly 200 movie theaters worldwide reportedly plan to screen the film version of “1984” simultaneously Tuesday in protest against President Trump.

The demonstration, called "National Screening Day," primarily involves cinemas in the U.S. but also includes venues in Canada, Croatia, Sweden and the United Kingdom, according to Monday reports.

Al-Jazeera said the event was created by Dylan Skolnick, co-director of the Cinema Arts Centre on Long Island, N.Y., and Adam Birnbaum, director of film programing at Connecticut’s Avon Theatre Film Centre.

“In particular, this undermining of the concept of facts and the demonization of foreign enemies [by the Trump administration] really resonate in ‘1984,’” Skolnick said.

The event is scheduled for April 4 as a nod to the date Winston Smith, the protagonist of George Orwell's novel, begins resisting the Inner Party and Big Brother.

“No one is suggesting that we’re living in Orwell’s world. But the road to that world is people just becoming disengaged and allowing their government to do whatever it wants," Skolnick said.

“1984” depicts a totalitarian future society controlled by a single political party amid perpetual war and endless government surveillance.

Okay wait, so we're NOT living in Orwell's world yet?

Somebody needs to tell that to my blood pressure.

Woman gets shot in the chest during showing of the movie "13 Hours." Now the conservatives just have to find a way to blame THIS on Hillary Clinton as well.

Courtesy of Komo News:

A 40-year-old woman was seriously injured Thursday when she was shot in the chest inside a Renton movie theater, police said.

The shooting happened at around 8 p.m. at a movie theater at the The Landing in Renton during a showing of the film "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi."

"It got about 15-20 minutes into the film and I believe the lady in front of us that got shot was actually talking to her husband or significant other and that's when we heard the loud pop," said one witness, who did not want to be identified. He was sitting 3 or 4 rows behind the man when the gun went off.

And how did the brave man with the gun respond?

Just as witnesses realized it was a shooting, they saw the man make his way toward a nearby exit.

Police believe that the man was intoxicated at the time.

Of course he was because who else would bring a loaded firearm to a theater except a drunken asshole who would run away from any responsibility for his actions?

Fortunately the man's father isn't quite the POS his son is and he notified the police:

Police say the shooter's father called 911 Thursday night from his Newcastle home and told dispatchers his son was distraught and told him that he dropped his gun at a Renton movie theater and it discharged. The 29-year-old is now in custody.

"According to him, he said he dropped the gun and it went off. We have witnesses that say he came into the theater and appeared intoxicated. He went in and took a seat in theater number nine and was fumbling with a pistol when it went off and struck someone sitting in front of him," said David Leibman with the Renton Police Department.

Apparently in the NRA's America you cannot even sit down to enjoy some good old anti-Hillary Clinton propaganda without the risk of being shot by some drunk guy.

Retired Florida police officer who shot and killed a man for throwing popcorn will use the "stand your ground" defense. Well of course he will.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

A retired police officer who gunned down a married father who threw popcorn at him will use Florida’s “stand your ground” law as his defense when he goes on trial for murder.

The lawyer for Curtis Reeves confirmed that the retired Tampa police captain would use the controversial law to claim self-defense in the fatal Jan. 13, 2014, shooting, reported the Tampa Bay Times.

The 73-year-old Reeves was charged with second-degree murder after he shot 43-year-old Chad Oulson to death because he refused to stop sending a text message to his 2-year-old daughter’s day care provider.

Reeves’ attorney has maintained all along that video recorded inside the Wesley Chapel movie theater will show that Oulson attacked the older man first — causing Reeves to fear for his life.

Defendants must show they had a “reasonable belief” that they were threatened before using force — even if no such threat actually existed.

Reeves told investigators that he feared for his safety when he was struck in the face with an object that was later determined was popcorn, but his defense attorney suggested may have been a more dangerous object.

"May have been a more dangerous object?"

Once the popcorn actually hits your face are you not then aware that it was NOT a more dangerous object?

The idea that this asshole could get away with murder by claiming that he was terrified of flying popcorn sickens me.

But hey, this IS Florida.l

Guy gets brand new conceal carry permit, immediately shoots himself. Well I feel safer.

"Hold it right there or I'll shoot myself in the leg. I mean it!"
Courtesy of KWCH:

It happened inside a movie theatre at Central Mall during a showing Friday night.

Police say the shooting was accidental.

Witnesses it happened 45 minutes into the movie.

"At first what popped into my mind was that someone popped a bag of candy or something and goofing off or something," said Heather Myers, who was inside the theatre when the shooting happened.

Then seconds later, a man sitting three rows behind Heather and her husband Domenic, yells out for help.

"This guy started shouting 'Oh my God, I just shot myself! I just got my concealed and carry,' and then everybody jumped up and that's when we heard call 9-11.

According to Salina police, the man accidentally shot himself once in the leg.

You know this is really the only way these conceal carry idiots are going to keep us safe. By shooting themselves instead of an innocent bystander or family member.
