Co-founder of California secessionist movement issues statement welcoming Julian Asssange's support from his cozy home in Russia.

Courtesy of Business Insider:

The cofounder of the California separatist group Yes California said in an interview Monday that the group welcomes "the vocal support" of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who recently began tweeting about the California independence campaign known as "Calexit."

"Ultimately the Calexit vote and its preceding debate will be up to Californians to decide but we welcome the vocal support of Julian Assange, as we would for any individual with the courage to stand up against and defy the powers that be in order to affect positive change in this world," said Louis Marinelli, the cofounder. "That's what our campaign is all about."

Marinelli, a 31-year-old activist, announced in a 1,600-word statement on Monday that he would return to California after spending just over a year in Russia's fourth-largest city, Yekaterinburg, with his wife Anastasia.

Let's see, cozy with the Russians, and being supported by Julian Assange, does this seem eerily familiar to anybody else?

I really thought this Calexit bullshit had died in its sleep after the Brexit fiasco blew up over in Britain. But apparently somebody is attempting to resuscitate it and get it back on its feet again.

Now ask yourself which political party would stand to benefit the most from California seceding from the United States?

And which country would love to sew the seeds of discontent in the most influential liberal state on the planet?

Keep in mind that though overall significantly more intelligent than their conservative counterparts, there are still some easily manipulated members on the liberal side as well.

This is clearly an attempt to cause friction among California voters, and to undermine the effectiveness that California wields as a political force in this country.

Only an idiot would support this.

Or a Russian operative of course.

Texas decides to establish their own Fort Knox, because you know screw the federal government!

Courtesy of TPM:

And the new depository will not just be a well-guarded warehouse for that bullion. The law Abbott signed calls for the creation of an electronic payments system that will allow gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and rhodium depositors to write checks against their accounts, making the depository into a bank – one that will create a metal-backed money supply intended to challenge the paper currency issued by the Federal Reserve - or "Yankee dollars" as one of the law's top supporters calls them. And in case the Fed or Obama wants to confiscate Texas's gold, nice try Fed and Obama! In keeping with this suspicion of the Fed and Washington, the new law also explicitly declares that no “governmental or quasi-governmental authority other than an authority of [Texas]” will be allowed to confiscate or freeze an account inside the depository. Gold that’s entrusted to Texas will stay in Texas.

The depository law is the brainchild of a second-term state representative in the Texas legislature named Giovanni Capriglione, a 42-year-old Republican from Southlake, just northwest of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. A private equity manager with an MBA, Capriglione was elected in 2012 after beating an seven-term incumbent with the backing of Tea Party activists. He told the Star-Telegram that when he first announced his interest in establishing a depository in Texas in 2013, he “got so many emails and phone calls from people literally all over the world who said they want to store their gold … in a Texas depository. People have this image of Texas as big and powerful … so for a lot of people, this is exactly where they would want to go with their gold.”

The only thing big and powerful in Texas are the egos.

I don't know about everybody else, but my very first thought on reading this is that Texas is getting ready to secede, because a state run gold depository would be essential to making that happen.

The place is already overrun with sovereign citizens who are constantly freaking out about the federal government, as was demonstrated by their crazed response to military maneuvers in their state, and some have even gone so far as to start printing their own money.

Personally I hope that they ARE preparing to secede from United States of America. Having them leave would significantly raise the IQ level in Washington since one of their Senators is freaking Ted Cruz, and they count among their Representatives the like of Blake Farenthold, Pete Sessions, and Louis Gohmert.

I just have to wonder how safe Texans will feel once other countries learn that Texas has their own gold reserves and are no longer protected by the United States military?

Coloradans want to secede from, get this, Colorado.

Courtesy of The Inquisitr:

A few rural communities in North Colorado want to secede and become their own state.

According to the Coloradan, a group of county commissioners are pursuing a plan to secede from Colorado over concerns that their voices are being ignored by the state.

Sean Conway, a commissioner in Weld County, said: “I know you think, wow, this is crazy when you first hear about it, but then you realize that five of our states — Vermont, Maine, Tennessee, Wyoming and Kentucky — came about in this fashion, and the circumstances were very similar to what we’re going through now.”

Conway said that commissioners from other counties have been having informal talks about seceding from the state and added that a measure may be placed on the November ballot in Weld County to find out if voters agree with the plan.

Conway, a Republican, said that recent legislation passed by Colorado has threatened his communities way of life. According to KDVR, the commissioner is referring to new laws on gun control and the expansion of oil and gas production. The straw that broke the camel’s back, however, came this week when Gov. John Hickenlooper signed S.B. 252, a bill that would increase “renewable energy standard for rural electric co-ops.”

Conway said: “I have never seen a legislative session like this. They ignore us. They don’t listen to us. It started with the gun control bills and came to a head this week with S.B. 252 being signed … Our voices are being ignored in the legislative process this year and our very way of life is under attack.”

Conway said that commissioners from rural counties would hold hearings over the next few weeks with the hopes of bringing a vote to the community in November. It’s unclear what counties want to secede from Colorado but Conway said that Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, and Yuma counties have all been involved in the first round of talks.

Okay well I think we have ALL heard of  states threatening to secede from the United States, but this is the firs time I have heard about part of a state wanting to secede from the rest of the state.

If people are frustrated by the direction that their state is going don't they just usually move?

Boy this gun control thing is making people act like they are out of their damned minds. And in my opinion anybody who loves their guns so much they are willing to tear their state apart is probably too crazy to have a gun anyhow.

What if President Obama responded to those requesting the right to secede?

This is of course a parody, but it  DOES make some very good points.

Clearly these idiots have not spent any real time thinking the idea through at all.

Rather than dissipating the Right Wing freakout over Obama's reelection only intensifies.

Have these people lost their damn minds?
You know I remember MY emotional state after George W. Bush won his reelection in 2004.

It wasn't good.

In fact THAT is the reason that this blog even exists.

However even in my darkest days, and yes some of them were quite dark, I NEVER lost my shit the way that these people are losing theirs.

Check this out.

The movement to impeach President Barack Obama has been launched, just days after he won a second term in the White House.

The Conservative Majority Fund, a conservative group known primarily for its birther conspiracy spreading, has launched a robocall campaign to gin up support for the president's impeachment.

Okay these guys are several bricks shy of a full load, and their robo-call seems written especially for parody.  Listen for yourself here:

Our only recourse now is to move forward with the full impeachment of President Obama. We suspect that Obama is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors and that there may be grounds for impeachment as is laid out in the constitution. Further, he may not even be a U.S. citizen because nobody, I mean no one, has seen an actual physical copy of his birth certificate. Impeachment is our only option. And Republicans are already considering Obama investigations. As the nation's most effective conservative group we are launching the official impeach Obama campaign.

You know I am kind of surprised they didn't throw in the possibility that he is the Anti-Christ and eats white Christian babies for breakfast while they were at it.

But don't think these wingnuts are just an isolated case either, in Georgia top GOP lawmakers held a secret meeting where they convinced themselves that the President is using some kind of Cold War era "mind control" to subjugate the American people. NO I am NOT kidding.

Read it for yourself here at Mother Jones:

20 states threatening to secede after President Obama reelection. Aww, did somebody get their widdle feelings hurt?

You know this weekend my daughter flew down to Georgia to spend the winter with her mom and her sisters, since much of the movie work she has been doing up here will dry up until spring.

We had a great last couple of days together, attending the new James Bond movie "Skyfall" and getting take out from the newly opened Olive Garden here on our side of town. (I loved both the movie and the food by the way.)

And then the next day, Sunday she flew dout of here around 4:00 P.M. our time.

I kid you not, she was in Georgia no more than eight hours before I received THIS text:

"Oh my god. what am I doing here? These people are fucking crazy!"

That statement was accompanied by this link:

It's been less than a week since the nation re-elected President Barack Obama, giving the Commander in Chief another four years in office. Unsurprisingly, the election's outcome didn't please everyone. But rather than simply deal with the results, however, thousands of Georgians have decided that they would rather secede from the United States.

Yes, you read that right. Political blog Georgia Tipsheet - run by occasional CL contributor James Richardson - pointed out this morning that over 6,000 people have signed two similar petitions. Both have asked for the Obama administration to allow the Peach State to leave the United States so that it could form its own independent government.

Seriously? I guess so much for that whole bipartisan approach to working together for the good of the country thing, right?

Now as most of us know Georgia is in NO position to run their own government, and this is clearly nothing more than a very public temper tantrum by a group of  dipshits that simply cannot handle the idea that they just had their asses handed to them in the election.

However before you mock Georgia as a state full of whiny little bitches, perhaps you should read this:

Louisiana became the first of the (as of now) 50 united states that managed to collect enough signatures to have their petition for secession added to the White House’s website last week, and so far they’ve had no problem finding company. A petition asking for the government to “Peacefully grant the State of Louisiana to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government” garnered more than 14,000 signatures since going live on November 7, and so far 19 other states have managed to attract similar success.

According to the terms of participation on WhiteHouse.gov, the website for the executive branch of the United States will make any petition searchable if it can collect 150 signatures within one months’ time, and collecting 25,000 signatures will necessitate an official response. So far Texas seems to be in the running to be the first state to receive a response from the commander-in-chief, with 21,777 signees asking for secession since their petition went live on November 9, barely 48 hours after US President Barack Obama claimed a victory in his bid for re-election.

In all, 20 states have so far broken the 150 signature threshold, mostly sticking closely to the script included in the first petition published by “Michael E” of Slidell, LA, who quotes the Declaration of Independence in his plea to once again separate the public from a power that, according to thousands of residents, doesn’t represent what is best for the people anymore.

You know part of me wants to simply say "good riddance" and let these assholes TRY and form their own country without the monetary support from Uncle Sam, ESPECIALLY since many of them take more in government money than they pay out in taxes. However of course that is not really an option, and besides my daughter would be trapped in one of those southern fried cuckoo's nests.

Besides I imagine that this reaction to Obama's reelection is much like when a small child threatens to hold their breath until they pass out. The best thing to do is call their bluff because they have to breathe eventually, and besides we know that, even though they have covered their mouths with their hands, they are actually faking it and still breathing through their noses.

God this country is just chock full of ignorant people. I just hope those Georgia inbreds don't get any of their stupid on my kid.

Interesting analysis of the top three GOP frontrunners and Rick Perry's chances of emerging victorious.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

I don't watch Chris Matthews very often anymore, but I caught this one today and I was caught somewhat off guard by Jennifer Donahue's predictions concerning these three GOP hopefuls.

I am not sure if she is right, but she makes a very compelling case.

I am interested in what all of you think.

"Yee Haw! Jesus Take the Wheel!" Bill Maher delivers must see New Rule about Rick Perry.

The video is not embeddable so the best I can do is direct you to click here so you can watch it over on Maher's Facebook page. But believe me it is well worth the effort.

Maher rips Perry, and the Evangelical Right, for praying to God to help solve our nation's problems, slams Perry for wanting to secede from the union, and compares the Governor of Texas to Sissy Spacek's mom in "Carrie."

Personally I found last night's show to be one of the best in quite awhile.
