President Obama on the Ellen Show talking about the LGBT progress.

I thought that was both a very sweet and very accurate comment that President Obama made about the contribution Ellen has made in gaining acceptance for LGBT folks in this country.

These are the kinds of very real moments that let us know just what kind of guy is representing us in the White House.

Taco Bell flashing commercial gives one million prudes the vapors.

Okay did you watch that and laugh?

Did you think it was cute?

Did you perhaps think "Boy I sure hope I'm that feisty when I'm that age?"

Well if you did then clearly you are immoral heathens. Because Monica Cole of One Million Moms was horrified, horrified I say, at this vulgar advertisement.

From the OMM website:

Taco Bell is following a trend in crude commercials. While a few fast food restaurants are cleaning up their ads, Taco Bell decided to air a new ad named "Flash" to advertise Chickstars.

The ad shows an elderly couple eating Chickstars in their car when the woman lifts up her shirt, implying she is showing her bare chest to the man. Showing a female flashing a man during a television commercial is completely inappropriate. This act has nothing to do with the food product.

Even if the couple is supposed to be married, this ad is in poor taste. It would be something children would duplicate. Everyone knows children repeat what they see. This disgusting advertisement is airing during primetime when children are likely watching.

You know I used to pity this group back when they were going after Ellen Degeneres because they simply seem to high strung to successfully navigate through middle age without their hearts exploding.

But now I've change my mind. Now I pity their spouses.

Could you even imagine having to live with a woman who takes offense at virtually EVERYTHING?

Let's put aside politics for a bit to enjoy something truly sweet.

Courtesy of the YouTube page:

Swiss/German girl duo BOY, performing "Little Numbers" at their first-ever Brooklyn show. In this emotional performance, Swiss singer Valeska Steiner, is surprised to hear the whole audience sing along, being that its their American debut.

Like probably the majority of you I had never heard of this band, but  after watching the emotional reaction from the lead singer to the realization that her music had made an impact on this American audience I became an instant fan.

It also reminded me of this video of the amazing Adele being brought to tears by the audience singing along to "Someone Like You."

You know some days it just feels we don't have enough music and sweetness in our lives.

P.S. To learn more about the band called Boy, click here.

Nothing to see here, just two gay dads raising 12 adopted kids.

You know I think the conservatives are right, gays are not good parents.

They're freaking saints!

I have helped to raised a lot of kids, and let me say that these two guys are my new heroes.

Final picture of the day. The George Bush, gay marriage, and awesome socks edition.

He may not be gay, but I think his socks might be.
Courtesy of Bulgebull:

Former President George H.W. Bush served as an official witness at the marriage of Bonnie Clement and Helen Thorgalsen, the owners of a general store in Kennebunk, Maine, close to where the Bush family has a home.

After so many negative stories concerning the Republican party today it is nice to remember that there was a time when they were not overrun with mental health patients and political insurgents.

I did not always agree with George the first by any means, but at least it appeared he did what he thought was best for the country and did not allow ideology to dictate his actions.

Seeing your true love for the first time, again.

Here is what it says on the You Tube page:

In response to all of the questions: I had a hernia repair to fix residual tears from a previous surgery. I wish I could remember this but I was definitely out of it. This was my fifth surgery within our six years of marriage and she's been by my side through all of it. In a previous surgery I suffered a severe complication and we didn't know if I'd ever function the same again. She is the love of my life.

I have to admit that I am somewhat jaded but I still found this to be very sweet.

An elderly gentleman writes a song of love to his deceased wife. You are going to need tissues. Trust me.

Courtesy of Hyper Vocal:

When a man pines for his deceased beloved wife, it usually has the power to punch you right in the feels. But when it’s a 96-year-old man remembering through song the life and love he shared with the same woman for 75 years, you can’t help but feel his sincere pain.

This gentleman is Fred Stobaugh, a Peoria, Illinois, man who had recently lost his everything: Lorraine. When Fred heard about a contest run by Green Shoe Studio to upload a finished song to YouTube, he knew he wasn’t especially musical, but he sent in the lyrics to a song for his life’s partner. Green Shoe took it from there, producing the song and playing it back for Fred, whose reaction is heartbreakingly awesome.

God what I would not do to feel a love that strong.

So beautiful. And touching. And sad.

Sweet pro-gay marriage commercial from Google.

Courtesy of Business Insider:

Before gay marriage became legalized in France last month, the folks at Google found a way to allow same sex couples to legally exchange vows: via a Belgian mayor conducting ceremonies in Google Hangout. Gay marriage is legal in Belgium.

The Belgian mayor has married Chilean couples on the Google video meeting platform as well.

Google made a tear-jerking ad about two French men, Marc-Antoine and Sebastien, who met in 1976 and have at last — thanks to Google — found a way to make their relationship official.

Yes I know it was just a commercial, but it was a very effective commercial.

Something sweet to soothe your troubled brow.

The other day as I was searching for information to update my post about the Boston Marathon bombing, I found myself becoming very upset.

I felt I needed a break from all of the pain, fear, and despair. After awhile I started to become numb.

So I pulled my eyes away from the images played over and over again in a loop on cable news and looked for something to make me feel....well....something.

That is when I stumbled upon this YouTube site.

I of course cannot guarantee that it will make you feel better as well, but right now it is the best I have to offer. Just take a moment, clear you mind, and listen.
Namaste my friends. Tomorrow we will take up our shields and wade into the battle yet again, but for tonight let our final thoughts be thoughts of peace.

Perhaps the sweetest letter to a gay son that you will ever read.

The letter says:

Nate,

I overheard your phone conversation with Mike last night about your plans to come out to me. The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now.

I’ve known you were gay since you were six, I’ve loved you since you were born.

- Dad P.S.

Your mom and I think you and Mike make a cute couple.

Such a great dad!

Of course for me this letter really hits home in a very personal way, because of course I dealt with the same thing that this father dealt with which was knowing well in advance that my child was gay, and then waiting for her to finally trust me enough ,and feel comfortable enough, to come out to me.

In my case I made the mistake of trying to force the issue. I wish I had had this father's wisdom to simply allow things to move forward at their own pace.

This is for all of you romantics out there. President and Mrs. Obama dance together during the Commander-in-Chief's Ball.

I knew I had to post this after receiving it almost a dozen times in the comments and through e-mails.

Men should take note, the President has some very smooth moves.

Perhaps the most remarkable moment from yesterday's inauguration.

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
Courtesy of MSNBC:

Perhaps the most remarkable moment from today’s inauguration was an unscripted one. After delivering his speech, President Obama was leaving the dais and heading into the Capitol building when he stopped, turned around, and gazed out at the scene of people gathered on the Mall, a wistful smile on his face.

“I want to look out one more time,” the president said to someone standing near him, “because I’m not going to see this again.”

Hard to blame him for wanting to soak that in, don't you think?

Below is a gif of the President stealing a kiss from his wife as his two girls tease what other, You know like a perfectly normal family NOT having the head of their household sworn in as the most powerful man in the country.

I was thinking yesterday that this may be one of the most normal families to occupy the White House in decades. The Right Wing keeps trying to suggest that the President is "other" than us, but to me he, and his family, seem just as goofy, playful, and loving as the rest of us.

By the way I love that look that Michelle shoots at the girls after her smooch.

Update: Here is the video that the gif was taken from.

President Obama continues attack on Christmas by manhandling elves. Oh the humanity!

Courtesy of the YouTube site:

President Obama and his family attended the annual "Christmas in Washington" concert, which benefits Children's National Medical Center. Before the concert, he presented a basket of books to four former patients, who were dressed as elves.

Yeah the President is certainly waging that "War on Christmas" in a subversive manner don't you think? Here he is standing before a Christmas tree, giving gifts to sick children, and wishing everybody a Merry Christmas, just like you would expect a secret Kenyan born Muslim to do.

You know if you were insane that is.

Damn those are some cute elves!

Sure the President won a historic political victory and his poll numbers are climbing, but some people are just impossible to impress.

Courtesy of Politico:

President Barack Obama jokingly mimics U.S. Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney's "not impressed" look while greeting members of the 2012 U.S. Olympic gymnastics teams in the Oval Office, Nov. 15.

For those who have been living under a rock, McKayla became one of the most prevalent online memes after she was photographed making this face during the gymnastic competition while participating in the Summer Olympics.

Since then she has been in great demand for appearances.

Apparently even the President knew who she was, and what she was famous for. You know besides that whole being a member of the Gold Medal winning Olympic Gymnastics team that is.

Flash mobs are not just for the young.

Rockers of Ages Elders Choir performing a rendition of Coldplay's "Fix You."

To learn more about this group of feisty senior citizens you can visit their website here.

Here is a brief description:

These groups sing songs from around the world as well as fun and funky songs from the last five decades in harmony. It is a chance to have a lot of fun, and it really doesn't matter what your voice is like, or whether you think you can sing or not. Every practice includes a time for a cup of tea and a chance to get to know each other. Music is provided, but you don't need to be able to read music. There are NO AUDITIONS.

  • If you can't sing, you will be taught to sing.
  • If you have lost your voice, you will be helped to get it back.
  • If you need help with transport we will pick you up.
  • If you have a disability, we will accommodate it.
  • If not now, when?

Although this group is aimed at meeting the needs of older adults, anyone is welcome to come along.

They were a little off tune a couple of times, but all in all that was pretty sweet.

The baby whisperer strikes again.

I tell you if this guy were allowed to run eighteen years from now all of these smitten babies, who would then be old enough to vote, would send him back to the White House in a landslide.
